Grand Line – Paradise
Drum Island
"You know, I was thinking about the meat we left behind in Little Garden!", Usopp suddenly says, everyone standing in front of the castle waiting for Chopper to say goodbye to Dra. Kureha so they could finally leave.
"Again with this, Usopp? I already told you it wasn't possible, the Merry was already full, and more weight would just sink the ship", Sanji says, once again explaining to him why they didn't bring more meat.
"Yeah, but with my powers it would've worked, I would only have to shrink it and we could've fit more", Usopp says, having thought of that just recently.
"... Yeah, true! But it doesn't matter that much, your fruit mainly does two things, increase and decrease the size of anything, so just like you can shrink anything to fit more in the Merry, you can also enlarge things and have a greater quantity of something, and while that makes it so we could have an infinite amount of anything we want, with food it's a bit different, food spoils over time! So in the end, it's always good for us to restock our supplies when we dock at an island! Do you understand now why I said it doesn't matter that much?", after a brief moment of silence, Sanji comments, shrugging. In the end, Usopp's powers couldn't make their food supply infinite, just abundant enough to last until they could dock at the next port.
"Eeeehhh... yeah... yeah! With food my powers have that limitation, I can't believe I spent more time than I'd like to admit thinking about this, all for it to not make any difference in the end, fucking waste of time!", Usopp admits before exclaiming in frustration. He spent a good amount of time thinking about it, and at no point did it cross his mind that he could just enlarge the meat they brought instead of shrinking everything to fit more. Another thing that hadn't even crossed his mind is that food spoils, unlike metals like gold, so you can't make a piece of meat infinite because eventually it will rot.
"Woof, woof woof woof woof woof!" "Man, that fight broke me completely!", having woken up in the meantime, Chouchou barks tiredly, doing some stretches to loosen up his muscles.
"Quack quack" "You don't look broken", Karoo quacks, as Chouchou didn't seem to have any injuries or broken bones on his body.
"Woof woof woof woof, woof!" "Perks of having super-regeneration, I guess!", Chouchou barks, shrugging.
"Okay, let me see if I got this right, that chubby reindeer is part of the crew now?", Zoro asks, in the middle of a conversation with Luffy.
"That's right! I wanted the witch granny to come with us too, but we're out of time! And I think she'd fall apart like a Lego figure if we tried to take her by force", Luffy says with a big smile.
"Okay, let's ignore the fact that I have no idea what a Lego figure is and focus on the part that actually matters! You're telling me he can turn into a helicopter, like the ones from those silly children's stories?", Zoro continues, imagining Chopper turning into a helicopter.
"That's right! And they're comic books, not silly children's stories. Dude, didn't you have a childhood?", Luffy asks, almost indignant.
"I was more worried about training with a sword", Zoro responds, never having been very interested in comic books.
"Why is Chopper taking so long?", setting aside his musing about the meat they left behind in Little Garden, Usopp asks, having met Chopper during the hour he was bedridden in the castle.
"The two of them must be crying in each other's arms. Dra. Kureha may seem like a tough woman, but her heart is definitely soft!", Kaya, beside him, says with a smile.
Meanwhile, going back a few minutes in time, inside the castle, Chopper quickly finds Dra. Kureha.
"Is it just me or are the patients no longer in the room, Chopper?", Dra. Kureha, standing in the middle of the empty room where the girls had been until just a few minutes ago, an open bottle of alcohol in her hand, asks, not even needing to turn around to know that it was Chopper who had just arrived.
"Doctorine! I need to talk to you", standing at the entrance of the door, Chopper says. And upon hearing that, it becomes quite clear to Dra. Kureha what this conversation was about.
"Hm? Speak, Chopper!", Dra. Kureha says, pretending to be ignorant about what was going on.
"I'm going to be a pirate, Doctorine! I'm leaving with them", Chopper says with conviction.
"What the hell are you talking about, Chopper? Are you crazy?", Dra. Kureha asks, her tone rising.
"No, I'm not crazy! I want to go out to sea with them, I'm going to travel the world, and I will be the doctor of their crew", Chopper says, arguing. This conversation was taking a very different turn than he had imagined.
"Never heard anything more stupid! A pirate's life is really tough, a kid like you could die suddenly, you know that?", Dra. Kureha argues, taking a swig from the open bottle she was holding.
"I'm not afraid of dying!", Chopper exclaims, raising his voice.
"Stop talking shit!! You're my only assistant here. I taught you everything you know! You think you don't owe me anything? Besides, I've never heard of a reindeer becoming a pirate!!", Dra. Kureha says, wanting to see if Chopper was really determined to go or not.
"I know I owe you a lot, Doctorine! And I'm very grateful that you took care of me and taught me everything I know about medicine! And it's true that I'm a reindeer!! But... but I'm also a man!! And all men dream, I've decided I'm going to chase my dream with my eyes wide open!!!", Chopper exclaims with fervor, his voice raised, firm in his decision.
"Hunf! You're not a man, you're a crybaby! A naive child who doesn't know what he's talking about, I'm never going to let you leave", Dra. Kureha snorts at what Chopper said, her voice rising more and more as she speaks, all culminating in the moment she pulls a knife from who knows where and throws it at Chopper, nearly hitting the little reindeer.
"Ahh... GLUP!! Please, Doctorine! I don't want to leave like this", getting startled by the sudden throw, Chopper swallows his saliva as he looks at the knife stuck in the wall next to his head before trying to argue with her, sweating cold.
"I ALREADY SAID STOP TALKING SHIT! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU WANT OR DON'T WANT, YOU'RE ONLY LEAVING WITH THEM OVER MY DEAD BODY", Dra. Kureha yells, starting to throw knives at Chopper. If this kid thought he would going to leave after a warm hug, then he was very mistaken. She was never good with goodbyes; this way was better.
"AAAAAHHHHH!", Chopper runs away, screaming as he dodges the knives thrown by the doctor chasing him.
As he runs at full speed toward the exit of the castle, Chopper spots the sled they usually use when going down the mountain. He then quickly grabs the sled's ropes and ties them to his back, shifting next into his 'Walk Point' form before running again toward the castle's exit, this time pulling a sled with him.
"COME BACK HERE, CHOPPER!!!", Dra. Kureha yells as she runs after Chopper, a smile threatening to form on her face as she sees this stupid kid chasing his silly dream.
'Sorry, Doctorine! But I want to see the world!', Chopper thinks, just running without looking back.
Rushing out of the castle at full speed, Chopper shouts to the Straw Hats waiting in front of the castle, "Get on the sled, quick!"
"Shishishi! Are we gonna do it like Santa Claus?", Luffy asks with an excited smile as he sees Chopper, carrying a sled, running toward them.
And then, everyone quickly jumps inside the sled as Chopper runs past them, the eleven of them squeezing in to fit into the small space, which logically wasn't a very pleasant situation.
And as soon as Chopper jumps onto the cable car rope and starts running along it, they pass by a sudden bump that makes Usopp almost fall out of the sled.
"Holy shit! A bump out of nowhere, did we run over a squirrel?", Usopp asks after recovering from his near fall.
Meanwhile, on the mountain, a group of civilians comes running out of the cable car station, seeming to be in a hurry.
As soon as they spot Dra. Kureha standing at the edge of the mountain, watching Chopper and that group of brats slide down the cable car rope in the distance. They approach her, and one of them asks, "Dra. Kureha, were those the pirates?"
"Yes, they just left", Dra. Kureha says, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Phew, Mr. Dalton sent us to warn them that Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp just landed on the island and might be after them, but since they've already left, that saves us the trouble", the civilian says, explaining why they had come up there.
"Garp? It's been a while since I've seen this brat! Anyway, since you guys are already here, help me with something", raising an eyebrow at hearing that brat's name, Dra. Kureha comments before turning to the civilians and starting to assign tasks.
=Scene Break=
Going back a little in time, Garp's ship finally docks on the island, with the Vice Admiral and part of his contingent calmly making their way to Bighorn Village.
Arriving there, they see a village crowded with people wherever they looked, people who stared at them with looks of distrust and even fear.
And just a few seconds after their arrival in the village, Dalton appears among the citizens, staring at them with suspicion, his gaze quickly settling on Garp, seeming to recognize him.
He then whispers a few things to a citizen near him before approaching the Marines, the citizen to whom he whispered something quickly leaves the place.
"What did you gentlemen come to do on this island? The same as the ones before? Arrest us without any conclusive proof? Beat and handcuff family men? Women? Children? The elderly?", Dalton asks incisively, purposely comparing them to the previous Marines. They might have nothing to do with that, but this would probably distract them long enough for the Straw Hats to escape. After all, defeating Aramaki was one thing; now defeating the Marine hero Garp, the man who fought the Pirate King practically every day, was probably something these youngsters still couldn't handle.
"What do you mean by 'the ones before'? What are you talking about?", Bogard asks, confused.
"A contingent of Marines docked on the island a few hours ago and started arresting all the island's citizens, abusing their strength against women, the elderly, and even children", Dalton says, explaining what happened.
"And where are they?", Bogard asks, after all, there weren't any Marines in sight besides them.
"We arrested them! Come, I'll show you where they are", Dalton says before turning and starting to walk toward where they had gathered the imprisoned Marines.
"No offense, but how did you arrest them?", Coby asks, following a little behind Bogard and Garp, along with Helmeppo.
"They came here after some pirates! But then something strange happened, and they all passed out. I managed to stay awake for some reason, so I woke up the civilians, and with their help, we tied up and restrained the Marines to stop them from treating us like that again once they woke up! Anyway, we're here", Dalton replies, omitting several details.
"Hey, release us immediately! We're just doing our job, okay? So cooperate so things don't get bad for you guys", as soon as they arrive at the place where Aramaki's men had been held, they begin to hear one of the Marines shouting.
"And how exactly are things going to get bad?", Garp asks, standing face to face with the Marine who said that, holding an open pack of rice crackers in his hand.
"V... Vice Admiral Garp!! W... w... what are you doing here?", the Marine stammers, seeing a legend like Garp standing before him.
"Tell me, son! Did you have any proof when you started arresting the civilians of this island?", Garp asks, completely relaxed, grabbing and chewing a rice cracker from the pack in his hand.
"S... sir, we had the suspicion that they were helping pirates...", stammering, the Marine tries to explain why they did what they did, without really answering the question.
"Crunch crunch crunch!", the sound of Garp's chewing interrupts him, getting in the way of his 'explanation', crumbs flying everywhere with each 'crunch' heard.
"O... our mission was to capture the Straw Ha...", he continues, trying to pick up his train of thought, only to be interrupted once again by the sound of Garp chewing.
"Crunch crunch crunch!"
"Vice Admiral Aramaki gave us orders to...", he continues, giving excuse after excuse, only to be interrupted once more, this time not by Garp.
"Stop making excuses and just answer the question! Did you guys have proof or not?", Bogard asks, tired of these pathetic excuses.
"N... no... ehh... no, sir!", lowering his head in shame, the marine replies, his tied-up companions doing the same.
"Well, great! You're in serious trouble. The Drum Kingdom is affiliated with the World Government! What you all did here could have had serious consequences. Consider yourselves lucky if you're even allowed to keep your posts in the future", Bogard says seriously, what they did here could have caused dangerous ripples in the future, involving other countries even.
"Drum doesn't exist anymore, we haven't decided on a new name yet, we're waiting for the election of a new king before we can decide on a new name", Dalton comments, wanting to make it clear.
"Mr. Dalton is the new king!!", one of the citizens in the crowd surrounding them, watching curiously, suddenly says with a smile, everyone around him nodding in agreement.
"Guys, how many times have I said...", Dalton begins to say, only to be cut off.
"Mr. Dalton! You're the new king, there's nothing to discuss! No one else is going to run, and even if you don't want it, everyone's going to vote for you! There's no escape", a citizen interrupts, with everyone around him agreeing. To these people, it was unquestionable; Dalton is their king from now on.
"I...", staring at them speechless for a few seconds, Dalton tries to say something, only to be interrupted.
"Crunch crunch crunch!", chewing loudly, Garp continues eating without paying attention to what was happening, practically vacuuming rice crackers with his mouth.
"Ehh, sorry about that!", Dalton apologizes, thinking Garp was calling his attention back to the topic, when in reality, he didn't care at all about what was going on; only two things were on his mind at that moment, beating up Luffy and eating rice crackers.
"Tell me, where's my troublesome grandson? I want to beat that brat up", taking advantage of the fact that they stopped talking about who-knows-what, Garp asks, throwing another rice cracker into his mouth.
"Your grandson?", Dalton asks, confused. Could it be...
At that moment, the sound of cannon fire is briefly heard before a blinding light draws everyone's attention to the sky, a colossal pink cloud glowing above the central mountain of the island. The combination of the mountain and the pink cloud made it look like a giant Sakura tree was planted at the center of the island, the orange sunset only making the scene more beautiful, truly a hypnotizing and breathtaking sight.
=Scene Break=
Quickly reaching the coast of the island, Usopp throws the shrunken Merry into the sea, the ship returning to its normal size just before hitting the surface of the water.
And then, everyone quickly boards the Merry as the ship drifts away from the shore due to the inertia caused by being launched into the sea.
"Shishishishi! That was fun, we should do that more often!", Luffy says with a laugh, wanting to ride a sled again.
"Yeah, yeah! I'm going to sleep, I think I deserve a rest after defeating that marine!", Zoro says, massaging his forehead, tired.
"What are you talking about, puke-head? I was the one who defeated that guy!", upon hearing something as ridiculous and delusional as what this idiot just said, Sanji asks angrily. It was obvious that he was the one who defeated that marine, he pierced his chest with his leg, the guy was already dead at that moment, this idiot only arrived at the last second, cut off the head of a corpse and now he's claiming the kill.
And at this moment, as the Merry moved away from the island at a steady speed, sounds of cannon fire echoed from afar before a blinding light drew everyone's attention to the stunning sight of a colossal Sakura tree.
Chopper, at the stern of the Merry, hanging onto the railing while watching the island fade into the distance, starts to tear up as that breathtaking sight appears before him.
"Wow!", Luffy exclaims, his eyes shining, it's way more impressive than he thought it would be.
"How beautiful!", Nami murmurs in awe, her head automatically resting on Luffy's chest beside her.
"Yeah, it's definitely a sight many would pay for!", ignoring what Sanji just said for now, Zoro comments, raising his eyebrows at the impressive view.
"...", lighting a new cigarette, Sanji turns his attention to the view, taking a long drag, momentarily setting aside the shit Zoro said to appreciate the sight.
"Woof!" "Wow!", Chouchou barks, the exhaustion practically draining from his body upon seeing that view. It felt good to be alive.
"Quack!" "Wow!", Karoo quacks in awe.
"...", speechless, Vivi admired the view without saying a word. It was incredible how these people around her managed to distract her in such a desperate moment for her. Being with the Straw Hats, living moments like this, kept her mind from thinking too much about her homeland, didn't let her sink into despair.
"For this view, I think it was worth getting sick!", Nojiko comments jokingly, staring intently at the breathtaking sight.
"It's so beautiful!", Kaya exclaims, hugging Usopp beside her.
"Man, it feels good to be alive!", Usopp says, hugging Kaya back.
"What a moment! Koala would've loved to see this!", sitting on the side railing of the Merry, Sabo comments, admiring the view.
"Doctorine! Hmm... hm... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!", the floodgates of Chopper's eyes burst open like broken hydrants, everything he had held back until that moment pouring out of his body.
=Scene Break=
"It's really hard to understand the mind of an idiot! But it worked, Quack Doctor!", tearing up while watching the scene before her eyes, Dra. Kureha comments with a smile on her face.
Meanwhile, at the same time, in Bighorn village, Garp observes the sight of the Sakura tree for a few long moments before murmuring, "Very beautiful sight, I'll just give my grandson a quick beating before coming back here to watch a little more!", and then disappears using Soru.
Quickly locating his grandson with his Observation Haki, Garp appears in midair already in punching position, above the Going Merry, which was now relatively far from the island's shore, his arm coated in Haki, Conqueror's lightnings crackling around his fist.
"Don't even think about it, Gramps!", having his Observation suddenly triggered, Luffy says upon seeing the future, time slowing to a near halt while he enters his 'Rocketman' form, in Gear Fourth, vanishing from where he stood using Soru.
Garp then shouts with a predatory smile on his face, unleashing a devastating punch, his fist looking like a mass of plasma when completing the arc.
At the same time the Vice Admiral was doing that, Luffy appears in his path, shouting "Gomu Gomu no...", his forearm coated with Haki inflating, entering Gear Third before then contracting like a spring, at the same time as his arm as a whole stretched backward, Conqueror's lightnings crackling and snapping around his fist.
And then, Luffy screams as his arm contracts at unimaginable speeds, delivering a devastating punch, meeting his grandfather's punch. His forearm, contracted like a spring, looking like a giant mass of plasma, releasing his spring tension just before his punch collides with his grandfather's punch, increasing the strength of your blow.
"Galaxy Impact!!!" "Nuclear Bullet!!!", their punches collide without colliding, like equal magnetic poles repelling each other, black lightning crackling and snapping violently around their fists, the shockwave splitting the clouds above in two while the sea below them raged violently, a colossal ravine forming, creating enormous waves that end up hurling the Merry far away, the winds ripping trees from the shores of Drum Island in the distance.
And at the epicenter of all that chaos, the two keep forcing their fists forward, bringing them closer to each other inch by inch, both with huge smiles on their faces.
"Shishishishi! Hi, Gramps!", Luffy greets him casually.
"Bwahahahaha! You're looking way too skinny, brat! Are you eating properly?", Garp asks with a loud laugh.
"If there's one thing I know how to do, it's eat, Gramps!", Luffy replies with a huge smile on his face.
"Doesn't look like it! You'll have to eat more if you want to be as strong as your grandpa!", Garp teases with a grin.
"Shishishi! What are you doing here, Gramps?", Luffy asks, wanting to know what his grandfather was doing there.
"Bwahahahaha! No idea! I just wanted to give my troublesome grandson a beating!", Garp answers, laughing loudly.
"Shishishishi! Sorry, Gramps! But this time we can't fight, we're in a bit of a hurry! So, see ya!", Luffy says with a smile before forcing his fist forward even further, touching it to his grandfather's fist, an action that causes a shock explosion that violently blasts them both backward.
His body then tears through the sea until it stops from the drag of the water, and in that moment, Luffy takes the opportunity and vanishes using Soru, returning to the Merry, which was airborne, flying away.
"Bwahahahahahahaha! Cheeky brat!", quickly recovering and stopping in mid-air above the island, Garp laughs, watching his grandson's ship collide with the sea, gliding across the surface of the water at full speed into the distance, deciding not to go after them, for whatever reason.
Back to the Dra. Kureha, "Take care! Go after your dreams, idiot son!", she finishes, looking toward the horizon, as if she had seen everything that had just happened.
