Taking the fast travel back to New Haven took us literally no time at all since there was one conveniently located near Kobb's location. New Haven hadn't changed in this short period of time and thus stank to high fucking heaven when we arrived. We had long since gotten used to this unfortunate trait of the town however and besides grimacing for a moment I ignored it. It turned out this right hand man of Kobb's was leaning against the building directly behind Pierces office. Clearly he was actually doing his job instead of goofing off like I had expected.-
The man himself was nothing special as he had on an orange faded turtle neck long sleeve shirt covered by a pocketed vest and gloves. On top of his head was a faded gray hard hat and all we could see of his face was his nose, eyes and ears as the rest was covered by the hat or turtle neck. On the front of the throat was a red bloodstain, no doubt from someone he killed at some point.-
"I never thought I'd see the day Janistown was liberated from Janis Kobb! You've done a great service for our cause. Taylor asked me to provide a reward worthy of your service! Outside town there's a container, inside it you'll find your reward. Here, I'll mark it for you." The man said with a snicker and we all exchanged glances before sighing as we knew this was the part we get double crossed.
We still headed out of the town to the marked spot that held our so called "reward". Not because we expected an actual reward but because we fully expected the dumbasses to give us all the reasons we'd need to remove them from the census.-
"Oh yes a single storage crate in an empty fully fenced in area, that's NOT suspicious at all." I said sarcastically when we arrived at the marked spot.
"Who knows, maybe it's full of awesome loot?" Lil played along.
"Brick be a bud and go punch to life out of the five asshats hiding behind the fence over there would you?" I said casually and the big man grinned a bloodthirsty grin before jogging over to the part of the fence I pointed out and threw a punch at it.
His weapon discharged a slug upon impact that shredded the fence and unfortunate dick behind that particular spot.
"FUCK! THEY KNOW, GET THEM!" one of the remaining bandits yelled at this and four others jumped the fence while the door to the crate fell open to reveal a psycho who had been waiting for us inside it.
The four who went over the fence were quite literally blow apart as Brick punched them with his weapon unloading a high caliber slug at point blank range into them in the process. I grinned at this and mentally patted myself on the back for the idea while casually lifting the psycho up by his throat and snapping his neck with a simple twist of my wrist.-
"I knew Kobb was going to back stab us like an idiot but this is fucking embarrassing. He sent only six normal ass bandits to do the job when Janistown had how many, like twenty seven?" I said shaking my head as I drew all the lifeforce out of the corpses.
"Idiot Vault hunters follow the lead of an insane archeologist and disaster happens. Janis was no angel but under Taylor Janistown is much more of a threat. You made this mess so you can fix it by killing Taylor Kobb yourselves. If reaching the Trash coast is so blasted important his Claptrap unit should be able to let you through after he's dead." Pierce sent over the echo sternly and with a clear bit of mockery.
I felt my eyebrow twitch in irritation but couldn't really counter argue since she was technically right about this being our fault. Obviously it went without saying but we all unanimously agreed that Taylor Kobb dies, painfully if possible. Heading back to the fast travel station we punched in the coordinates and got pixelated as we were sent to the station near Janistown.-
As soon as we arrived I saw something that made me pause for a moment.
"Hey guys it looks like the little shit ISN'T as stupid as we thought. He's got turrets now, I can only see one but best to assume he's got multiple." I said seriously.
"So those bandits were..?" Lil asked and I finished that thought for her.
"Sacrifices to stall us yeah." I said with a shrug.
"I can take out the turret that's up high from here but I can't do anything about any others if I can't see them." Mordy said seriously.
"Lil if you'd please, go check out the situation so we know what we are walking into." I said and she vanished in a flash of light as she used her powers.
A few moments later she reappeared panting "Two turrets, the one up high and another on the ground. Place is crawling with bandits too, easily twice as many as before." she reported as she caught her breath.
"Looks like Taylor's a more popular mayor than his brother, shame he's gonna have such a short term." I said with a feigned pity.
From there we started our work with Mordy taking out the turret from the fast travel station with The Nailer before we approached the "town". Going through the gate we were greeted by the bandits raring to go as well as the gatling turret that wasted no time unloading on us.
"Scatter!" I called out and bolted as full speed to the right causing the turret to follow me with a rain of bullets.
Lil vanished as she used her powers while Mordy and Roland bolted to the left of the entrance to find cover and a good spot to return fire from. Brick went straight forward for one of the pieces of scrap there and earned some bullets to his shield for his effort. Not enough to break it but close if the flickering was any indication. Clearly Kobb though me the biggest threat as most of the bandits and the turret ignored my friends to fire at me specifically.
'Aw, he does care, let's return that "affection" shall we?' I thought with a grin as the good shit flowed through me and I slid behind a metal thingy to get cover as even my pearlescent shield was flickering from the bullets that had hit it.
The emphasis on killing me first wasn't wrong as I was indeed the greatest threat out of all of us but my friends soon made it clear they were plenty threatening themselves. Lil popped up next to the turret and dropped a couple of grenades before vanishing again while Roland and Mordy started returning fire and Bloodwing swooped down to rip out eyes when she could. Brick was soon forgotten by the bandits who quickly found out how big of a mistake that was as he ran into their number and started throwing punches.-
The pressure on my position near vanished instantly as the turret exploded in a fiery pile of scrap and the bandits were forced to move their attention to my friends. I grinned and vaulted over the metal thingy before raising my gun and taking my shots. Bodies dropped rapidly and soon the fifty bandits were laying in pools of their own and their friends blood and meat chunks. I activated my powers and checked each of them for any good traits and only found a couple interesting ones. [Tinkering instinct-Rare grade] and [Minor regeneration-Rare grade] to be specific.-
After nabbing both of those traits I was left with a profit of 47,550 lifeforce, not a bad haul if I do say so myself. Finally all that was left was Kobb himself who was in the small building hanging off the cliff according to our minimaps. He came out with a rocket launcher in hand while two rocket turrets rose from the hidden spots they were originally.
"Here comes your death!" he yelled and all hell broke loose.
Between him and the turrets explosions were going off everywhere as we ran for our fucking lives to avoid getting hit. To say I was pissed at this was a massive understatement as I came for a nice fight not this motherfucker trying to explodify the whole fucking neighborhood to kill us like we were spiders. The moment I got a clean chance to dome the bitch I took it and popped his head like a juicy cantaloupe. The turrets proved a whole helluva lot trickier to destroy but we got them too eventually thanks to Bloodwing drawing one of their attention by scratching at it.
