Chapter 59 - A Race Against Time

Chapter 59: A Race Against Time

The sound of the door crashing open sent a jolt of panic through the team. The weight of the situation felt like a tangible force pressing in on them from all sides. Vikram's men had found them, and the room was filled with the sharp, dangerous click of weapons being readied.

Arvind cursed under his breath, his fingers still hovering over the keyboard. "I need a few more seconds!" he shouted, his voice tight with urgency. "They're trying to lock me out!"

Priya's heart raced. The plan had been so close to succeeding. They had the financial records—proof that would take down Vikram's entire network. But now, it seemed like their lives were seconds from ending.

Aadarsh's voice cut through the tension. "We need to buy him time!" He moved toward the door, positioning himself between the group and the men who were quickly closing in.

"Everyone, move!" Priya shouted.

Kiara grabbed Amrita's arm, pulling her toward the back exit. "We'll cover you!" she said, her eyes sharp with determination.

"No," Priya snapped. "We stick together! We fight through this, or we don't make it out."

The team scrambled, taking positions behind furniture, trying to create some semblance of defense in the chaos. Naira moved swiftly to the window, peering out through the blinds. "They're not just here for a few minutes. They'll be calling reinforcements. We're running out of time."

Aadarsh looked at Priya, his expression dark but resolute. "Do we fight or run? We can't do both."

Priya hesitated, weighing their options. They had a chance—a slim one—but only if they could get out alive and make it to the extraction point. "We fight," she said, her voice firm. "But Arvind—get that transfer done. Now!"

Arvind's fingers flew over the keyboard, his brow slick with sweat as he tried to stay one step ahead of the security systems trying to lock him out. The alarm blared in the background, a constant reminder of how little time they had left.

The sound of footsteps grew louder as Vikram's men closed in on their location. Priya took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She had been in dangerous situations before, but this felt different—this time, it wasn't just her life at risk. It was everyone's.

Aadarsh turned to her, his jaw clenched. "You've got the plan. You know what to do."

Priya's eyes locked onto his, her resolve hardening. "Once Arvind finishes, we make a run for it. We go through the back alley, and I know a safehouse on the other side of the city. It's our best shot."

Arvind's voice cut through the tension again. "Done," he said, his fingers slowing as he hit the final keystroke. The screen flashed green, confirming the transfer. "Funds are moved. Everything's set."

"Get ready," Priya ordered. "Now, move!"

The Escape

The team burst into action. Aadarsh led the charge, moving swiftly to the back door, kicking it open just as a gunshot rang out, narrowly missing his shoulder. The sound of metal hitting wood echoed in the cramped hallway as Vikram's men closed in from the front. The hallway outside was narrow and dark, providing some cover, but it wouldn't last long.

Naira was the first to dash forward, her eyes scanning the streets for any sign of danger. "Go! Now!" she yelled, pushing everyone ahead.

Arvind, still disoriented but determined, was right behind her. "I'm coming with you," he said, his voice strained.

They ran down the alley, the sound of pounding footsteps echoing behind them. Priya's heart hammered in her chest as she urged the group forward. They had to make it to the safehouse. They had to survive long enough to ensure the information they just stole could be used to destroy Vikram's empire.

Kiara glanced over her shoulder, seeing the flash of headlights in the distance. "They're coming fast. We need a diversion!"

"Think!" Amrita hissed, trying to catch her breath. "What do we do?"

Priya's mind raced. There was only one way to slow Vikram's men down. "Naira, can you get a signal to the authorities? Create a diversion? Anything to slow them down."

"I'm on it," Naira said, pulling out her phone. "But I'll need a minute to set it up. Just keep running."

"Go!" Priya urged, keeping her pace steady. "We'll cover you."

The team picked up speed, adrenaline pushing them forward as they rounded a corner and sprinted down another alley. They could hear the sound of cars revving, the screech of tires as Vikram's men drew closer. They were too close for comfort.

Naira ducked into a nearby abandoned storefront, quickly typing a message. Her fingers moved fast as she set up a fake emergency signal, sending it to the authorities. She wasn't sure if it would be enough, but it was the only option they had.

As she hit send, her phone buzzed. A single message from an unknown number: You can't run forever.

Her blood ran cold.

A Shocking Revelation

Priya didn't notice the message until Naira was back with the group. "We've got company on the way," she said quickly. "Vikram's people, they're setting up roadblocks. The cops will be here, but we're not in the clear yet."

Priya nodded, her thoughts racing. But just as she was about to say something, her phone buzzed. The same unknown number.

She glanced at the screen.

"You think you've won. You haven't. I'm always watching."

A chill ran down her spine. It was impossible—Vikram should've been focused on the file, not her. Who was this?

"What is it?" Aadarsh asked, noticing the tension in her expression.

Priya's hands clenched into fists. "It's not over. Someone else is pulling the strings. We've been set up."

---

The Trap Tightens

As they reached the safehouse, it was clear that their time was running out. The roadblocks were only a few blocks away. But the team knew one thing for certain—they weren't just being chased by Vikram anymore.

There was someone else. Someone more dangerous, and someone with far more resources than they had anticipated.

"We're not safe," Kiara said as they entered the safehouse. "And I don't think we're going to make it out of this alive."

"Don't say that," Priya snapped. "We're not giving up."

"We need to find out who's behind this," Aadarsh said, his voice tense. "Before it's too late."

Priya stood still, looking at the message again. "We need to figure out who's watching us—and why they want us dead. It's not just Vikram anymore. We've been played."
