"You promised Aila you'd come back to be with her after handling everything," Winston said, his gaze intense.
Ning Guiwan, however, smiled slowly. "I'm not her mother, after all, and I can't stay with her forever. That was just something to appease a child; surely you understand that. Compared to that, finding her a loving mother should be your priority."
Winston shifted his squatting position. "I've considered that, but she only seems to acknowledge you."
Ning Guiwan said, "That's because she's spent a lot of time with me. If someone else genuinely cares for her, their bond will naturally deepen over time. Besides, Aila is still young; she'll soon forget me."
Winston looked at her. He seemed to sigh, but perhaps he didn't.
That afternoon, the two of them took Aila to the amusement park one last time. In the evening, after lulling Aila to sleep, Ning Guiwan retrieved her luggage and departed. Winston drove her to the airport, asking one final time, "Can you really not stay?"
