Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

There are bodies strewn everywhere. The floor of the once grand villa is now drenched in blood, the air that once carried soft laughters and perfume of the extensive flower gardens is now heavy with the silence and pungent smell of death. One long glance at any body was enough to understand the extended periods of torture each person had to go through before they were killed.

This unexpected sight welcomed him as he walked in. He cursed softly as his footsteps carried him deeper into the home, echoing down the long corridors as he went in search for the one person who mattered in the midst of it all. He did not evade the puddles of blood nor did he stop to check if anyone was alive. He went from room to room, checking each floor leaving a long trail of evidence of his presence in a crime scene. At last he found her, leaning against one of the two graves located in the middle of the flower garden, head hanging low, as her elbows rested on her knees. His steady strides have turned tentative and quiet as if he has hesitated to reach her.

"This garden was planted and nurtured for by my father as a token of his love and gratitude for my mother" a soft voice spoke out when he was within an earshot from her. "This was probably the only place where she felt content as if nothing else could touch her here. I couldn't find a better resting place for her". He stopped and looked at his surroundings - at the multiple flowerbeds, climbing roses, morning glories, various jasmines growing haphazardly along the path leading to the small lake on the property. He closed the rest of the distance to the graves beneath the magnolia tree as he reached for her and gathered her into his arms.

"He died. He died before I could clear his name and bring him out. They killed my father too" the devastation in her voice made him tighten his hold on her as if she'd slip away from him if he was not careful.

"So I killed them all" she smiled, a smile so chillingly cruel as if she was too far gone to the dark side to be brought back. "I stood over them, drank in their fear as I hammered nails into their palms, deformed their faces beyond recognition before I slashed their arteries and watched them bleed as they pleaded for mercy and screamed for forgiveness" she tsked "as if their apologies are going to bring my family back" her eyes void and glazed over.

His heart beating out of rhythm as fear for her sanity consumed his every thought.
