Chapter 4 - The Night Of Salvation

Kendall's heart was heavy with guilt as she paced the halls of the fortress. The echoes of her betrayal haunted her every step, the memory of Yohan, Jake, and Faye's trusting faces imprinted in her mind. She had acted out of fear and a misguided desire to please her parents, but the reality of her actions now weighed on her like a leaden shroud.

As she walked, she overheard voices coming from a nearby chamber. Peering around the corner, she saw her mother, Marina, speaking with Pythia. The two women were deep in conversation, their faces set in stern expressions.

"They have to suffer the consequences," Marina was saying, her voice cold and unyielding. "What if we behead them?"

Pythia's eyes widened in shock. "Isn't that too cruel, Marina? They're just children, our children."

"Children or not, they defied us," Marina retorted. "We must make an example of them, or others will think they can challenge our authority."

Kendall's blood ran cold at the thought. She couldn't let this happen. Steeling herself, she hurried away, her mind racing. She needed to act quickly, to save her brother and the twins before it was too late.

Reaching the prison cell where Yohan, Jake, and Faye were locked up, Kendall used a spell to unlock the door and slipped inside. The three of them looked up in surprise, confusion etched on their faces.

"Kendall?" Yohan said, his voice filled with a mix of relief and suspicion. "What are you doing here?"

"I made a mistake," Kendall admitted, her voice trembling. "I shouldn't have brought you here. I overheard Mother and Pythia talking. They're planning something terrible. We need to get out, now."

Faye narrowed her eyes. "And why should we trust you after what you've done?"

"Because I'm your only hope right now," Kendall replied, her eyes pleading. "I know a way out. If you give me a chance, I can get us to the bridge."

The three exchanged uncertain glances, but the urgency in Kendall's voice convinced them. They nodded, and she led them through the dark, winding corridors of the fortress, moving as swiftly and silently as possible.

As they reached the bridge, their path was blocked by their parents—Marina, Silvermist, Nirvana, and Pythia—waiting for them, their expressions a mixture of anger and disappointment.

"Going somewhere?" Silvermist sneered, his eyes locking onto Kendall.

"We won't let you harm them," Kendall declared, stepping in front of her brother and the twins. "They deserve a chance to prove themselves."

"You dare defy us?" Nirvana growled, his hands crackling with dark energy.

Before the confrontation could escalate, a blast of magic flew through the air, striking Faye and sending her sprawling. Pythia's eyes widened in horror. "No!" she screamed, turning on her fellow villains. In a desperate act of protection, she cast a powerful blast, knocking Nirvana, Marina, and Silvermist back, and erected a shimmering shield around the four children.

"Go!" Pythia shouted, her voice breaking with urgency. "Run, now!"

Faye and Jake looked back, tears streaming down their faces as they saw their mother being overpowered by the minion guards. "We will come back for you, Mom!" Faye cried, her voice choked with emotion.

With heavy hearts, the four children fled towards the edge of the island, where the dark blue sea awaited them. Kendall led the way, her mind racing for a plan. When they reached the cliff's edge, she turned to them with a desperate look.

"We have to jump into the sea," she said, her voice urgent. "Swim to the other side."

Jake stared at her in disbelief. "Are you crazy? That water is like acid. It will kill us!"

"Just trust her," Faye said, grabbing Jake's arm. "She knows what she's doing."

Kendall nodded. "I've seen the charts and the maps. There's a safe passage beneath the surface, a tunnel that leads to the other side. It's risky, but it's our only chance."

Yohan looked at the swirling waters below, fear gripping his heart. "And what if you're wrong?"

Kendall met his gaze, her eyes filled with determination. "I'm not wrong. Please, we don't have time to argue. This is our only way out."

The three hesitated, the roar of the sea and the distant shouts of their parents' minions growing louder. Finally, Yohan nodded. "Alright. Let's do it."

With a deep breath, the four of them leapt off the cliff, plunging into the dark blue sea. The cold water stung their skin, but Kendall's instructions proved true. Beneath the surface, a hidden tunnel guided them through to the other side.

Emerging on the shores of Dreamville, the four children gasped for air, their bodies aching but alive. They had escaped, but their journey was far from over. As they lay on the beach, catching their breath, Kendall turned to them, a new resolve in her eyes.

"We need to change things," she said, her voice firm. "For ourselves, for our families, and for both our islands. This is just the beginning."
