Chapter 2 - Jane.

'Damn it!! I shouldn't have taken this job.'

That was the last thought on Jane's mind before everything went blank. She had been a professional hitman for over two decades and had went on a lot of dangerous missions in all that time, but never had she expected to meet her demise on what was supposed to be her last mission.

"Are you sure you can handle it?" The boss at Jane's mercenary organization had asked her repeatedly when she opted for the mission.

"Relax Big T. It's just a simple hit and run" She had declared with a confident smile, but now all she felt was regret. Pure overwhelming regret.

'why didn't I just peacefully wait for my retirement' Jane admonished her self as she opened her eyes to look around.

All she could see around her was an endless stream of flowing purple light.

"Is this the afterlife" she wondered out loud.

"Nope this is the waiting area, the afterlife is for dead people" A masculine voice rang out behind her.

Jane turned to find a young man in golden robes standing behind her with a warm smile. He had wavy black hair that hung just below his waist and golden eyes that shone like the sun.

Jane stared at him blankly, her confusing shown by her puzzled expression.

"Waiting area?" She asked in the calmest tone she could muster.

"Yes aren't you also heading to Beth?" The golden robed man asked.

"Beth?. Is that the place dead people go?" Jane asked in total confusion.

"Are you sure you are okay?. Or are you lost?" The golden robed man asked as he looked at Jane in amazement. He had an inkling that the young man in front of him was lost, but that was practically not possible as one had to have a travel token to be allowed into the portal station.

"Where are you from?" He asked in a calm voice. He wanted to know if this young man was from any of the astral worlds in the vicinity. He doubted if that was the case though, anyone from the nearby astral worlds who didn't live under a rock would surely have heard of Beth.

"Me?. I'm from....." Jane started but trailed off after only three words. Where was she from. She tried remembering, but apart from the conversation she had with big T and the scene of her death, she had no further recollections of her life.

"Wait who am I?" she wondered out loud. Her head started throbbing when she tried recalling who she was. All she knew was that she was a contracted hitman who had died on a mission days to her retirement.

"Jane..." She murmured in a thoughtful voice, the man who shot her, had called her Jane. She felt her head beginning to spin as memories started to flood her mind, however they weren't her memories.

In the scenes in her mind she saw a young man with purple hair pacing back and forth in what looked like a courtyard.

"Master!!. There's a scroll for you" A young girl of about twelve ran into the courtyard, bearing with her a rolled up scroll. She immediately bowed with her head touching the ground as she presented the scroll to the man.

"There brother Muying, the situation is very urgent. The people from the ancestral world....." After reading the scroll for a moment, the purple haired man's expression immediately changed and an icy aura enveloped him, sending chills down the spine of the maid.

The scene changed abruptly and Jane saw the purple haired man running through a marshy field. This time, he had a baby in his arms and it looked like he had just been involved in a tough battle.

His hair was burnt in some parts and he was fatally injured, a deep cut had appeared on his waist threatening to split him in half, but he showed no signs of pain as he continued running.

The scene changed once more and Jane no longer saw the purple haired man, instead she saw a boy with flaming red hair covered in tattered rags, he looked so skinny that the outline of his bones where clearly visible on his skin and one could tell he was starving from the way he wolfed down the bun in his bony hands.

" You dirty orphan how dare you steal from me!" A woman appeared out of now where and started beating the skinny boy with a stick. She beat him until he collapse before going ahead to spit on his unconscious body.

"Blame your stupid father for dying and abandoning you!!" she harrumphed before turning away.

"Huh?. He fainted just like that?" The man in golden robes muttered as he bent over to get a closer look at the young man in front of him. The young man had red hair that seem to glow like a burning ember. His robes seemed a little to small for him and we're already reaching his calves. A small paper slip had fell on the ground when he fainted.

"So he was heading for Beth" The golden robed man spoke to himself as he picked up the slip. This was the travel token of the portal station and it was a precious commodity that could only be purchased by a huge sum of money.

"What happened to him then?. He seems to have lost his memories" As the golden robed man continued to soliloquize, he caught a glimpse of something glowing faintly in the young man's hand. He turned to find a black ring covered in dragon patterns being clutched tightly by the young man.

~it must be something really precious for him to hold on so tightly even while unconscious~ He thought to himself as a slight hint greed shone in his eyes.

He quickly reached out to take the ring, but the moment his hand came in contact with the redhead man's hand something crazy happened.

The light emitted by the black ring suddenly intensified, turning into a black beam that blast right through the golden robed man's head.

*Thud*

His body collapsed lifelessly on the marble floor. Coincidentally at that moment the redhead man began showing signs of waking up.

Jane woke up with a slight headache from the fall. That however was not the main thing on her mind, when she fainted just now she had gotten a mind boggling revelation.

After her death, her soul by some inexplicable occurrence had been forcefully pulled into the body of a young man in another world.
