Zach closed his eyes and concentrated on himself, Yanael, Soara, and Mandra. If it had been just him, he wouldn't have taken it so seriously. But since he had to use barriers on the others as well, he focused as if his life depended on it.
Since the problem this time was poison of all kinds, he didn't need to make impenetrable barriers. He needed to make secure ones that prevented poison from affecting them. If possible, he also wanted to make the barriers in a way that would let them interact with the world around them unobstructed.
A barrier too well-made would get in the way of Yanael's sword's razor-sharp edge. It would get in the way of Soara's tendrils of snaking death. It would get in the way of Mandra's magical energy and spells.
It took some fine-tuning and focus, but Zach's Blessed Defense was the Skill he was the most proficient in for a reason.
