An hour and a half later, Blaze walked back into his office after attending a meeting, expecting to find Savannah waiting for him. But to his surprise, the place was completely empty.
His eyes narrowed in confusion.
"Savannah?" he called out, his deep voice bouncing off the walls of the silent room.
No response.
Furrowing his brow, he checked the restroom, peered into the corners of the office—anywhere she might be. But she was nowhere to be found. A knot of unease twisted in his stomach as he pulled out his phone and dialed her number.
Not in service.
He frowned and redialed. The same automated message greeted him. Again. And again.
His grip on the phone tightened, irritation morphing into something colder, something unsettling.
Then his gaze fell on the iPad lying on the floor.
He strode over and picked it up. The sight of it stirred something within him, an unfamiliar sensation creeping up his spine. He unlocked the device, but the screen only displayed the home menu.
Yet... something felt off.
His instincts were on high alert.
"Arthur!" Blaze barked.
Arthur rushed in immediately. "Boss?"
"Find Savannah. Now."
Arthur nodded sharply and dashed out to begin the search.
Blaze remained still, gripping the iPad tightly. Deep down, he sensed that something was very wrong.
But he refused to acknowledge it.
Baldwin's Mansion
Baldwin's mansion was eerily quiet, but beneath that calm exterior, chaos simmered like a storm on the horizon. Blaze stood in the grand hall, his presence commanding yet filled with tension. His men, usually steadfast and composed, were on edge, their faces revealing their unease. Something was off. Something was very off.
Blaze had been trying to reach Savannah for what felt like the hundredth time, but all he got was the same cold response: "This number is temporarily not in service." His frustration had hit a boiling point. Where was she? What had happened? If only he had installed security cameras in his office, he would have known what the hell was going on.
His thoughts spiraled into a whirlwind of anxiety. What if something had happened to her? Just the thought sent a chill racing down his spine. He ran a hand through his hair, feeling his patience slip away, when the heavy doors of the mansion creaked open. Arthur strode in, gripping an iPad tightly.
"Boss, we've got security footage from the company," Arthur announced, his voice laced with tension.
Blaze snatched the device from him, his eyes darting across the screen. The footage showed Savannah moving quickly through the hallway of the company building.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, except for the urgency in her steps. She wasn't running, but she was definitely in a rush. Then, she exited the building—and just like that, the footage ended. No further trace of her.
"Phone tracking?" Blaze demanded.
Arthur hesitated before answering, "Her last known location is still inside the company. After that, nothing."
Blaze clenched his jaw. These baseless clues and dead ends only stoked his growing rage. He turned to his men. "Start the search. I want every possible lead. We find her tonight. Get armed if—"
He cut himself off mid-sentence as the doors swung open again. Savannah walked in, her steps slow and deliberate. Blaze's heart skipped a beat as his gaze locked onto her. She looked... exhausted? No, it was more than that. Something was definitely off. Her face was pale, her eyes were hollow, and an air of brokenness surrounded her.
"Ana," Blaze called out her name, immediately striding toward her.
The room fell into stunned silence. Elijah, who had been standing nearby, narrowed his eyes at Savannah. Something was wrong with her. The woman before them was not the same Savannah he knew. She had lost something—perhaps even herself.
Just as Blaze was about to reach her, she raised her hand, stopping him in his tracks.
"Don't," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
Blaze halted, confusion etched across his face. Everyone in the room exchanged uncertain glances. What was happening?
"Ana, what—"
"How could you?" Savannah cut him off, her voice shaking with emotion.
Blaze frowned, concern etched on his face. "What happened? Did someone say something to you?" he asked, his voice heavy with worry.
"I know everything. I saw everything," she whispered, her teeth clenched tight.
Arthur stiffened. He had feared this-feared her getting hold of the iPad. Now, as he listened, he knew the worst had happened.
Blaze's thoughts raced, struggling to piece together her words. But as he noticed the tears brimming in her eyes, the truth hit him hard.
"Why?" Savannah's voice trembled. "Why would you do this to me? Why would you do this to Theo?"
Blaze took a sharp breath, unprepared for this confrontation.
"Let's try to talk this through, Ana," he said, attempting to calm her down.
"Talk? You want to talk about how you manipulated me? How you fabricated those lies and made me believe in something horrific? How you let me think my child was gone?" Her voice was thick with grief and betrayal.
"My love for you is real, Ana. I've always loved you," Blaze replied gently.
Savannah let out a bitter laugh. "I should have listened to Theo. You're a terrible person. We never should have moved in together. I should have cut ties with you when I had the chance."
"I did this for us. For you," Blaze said, his voice firm but steady.
Savannah glared at him, her eyes aflame with fury and anguish. "For me? You let me believe my child was dead! And I-a fool-I believed it!" Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"I hate you. I truly do—"
"Don't, Ana," Blaze's voice darkened, his expression unreadable. "I love you. Everything I did was to ensure our happiness."
Savannah shook her head, her heart shattering all over again. "I've come to a conclusion," she finally said.
Blaze's eyes narrowed. Elijah watched closely, while Arthur tightened his grip on his weapon, bracing for what might come next.
"We can't be together," Savannah declared.
Blaze frowned. "What do you mean, Ana?"
Savannah reached into her purse, pulling out a handgun. The bag slipped from her grasp, landing on the floor with a dull thud. She raised the gun, pointing it at Blaze.
His men immediately reacted, drawing their weapons. Blaze lifted a hand, a silent command to lower them. They obeyed-but Arthur hesitated, his gun still aimed at Savannah. Blaze shot him a sharp glare, and begrudgingly, Arthur lowered his weapon.
Blaze smirked. "You want to kill me?"
Savannah's hands shook, but her grip on the gun remained firm. "We can't be together. One should leave."
Blaze took a slow step forward. "I don't think you can do it."
"Watch me," she replied, her finger tightening on the trigger.
Elijah, standing off to the side, felt a wave of anxiety wash over him. He knew Savannah was acting on impulse, and it scared him.
But then, in a split second, she turned the gun on herself.
The air in the room shifted. Blaze's smirk disappeared, his face hardening in shock.
"Ana! What are you doing?" His voice was no longer calm—it was filled with desperation.
"I want to be far away from you," she whispered, ready to pull the trigger.
And then, a smirk returned to Blaze's lips as he took another step forward. "Do it, Ana. Pull the trigger."
