More weapons clattered onto the paving. Men who had been screaming for Veshara's death moments earlier raised their empty hands as she stepped over Drogath's corpse.
"We surrender!"
Her golden eyes passed over them, then dropped toward the sheltered stretch of wall where Kessan lay beneath a cloak.
He'd saved Tervan and died choking on these nobodies' filthy magic. Now his killers' friends wanted to go home.
"Ahahaha!" Veshara began laughing. Then, as if it never existed, her laughter stopped and her head tilted, draconic eyes oozing danger. "Surrender? You?"
"Kessan died fighting these cowards!" she called to her remaining soldiers. "We honor him properly by executing every last pirate in this fortress!"
"But we surrendered!"
The man was still holding his hands up when she caught him by the face. Her claws sank through his cheeks, and she drove the back of his skull into the wall hard enough to burst it against the stone.
