Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Nate's POV

Nate arrived at the old warehouse on 5th Street, a sense of foreboding settling over him. He glanced around the dark, abandoned building, wondering what he was about to uncover. The private investigator, James, had been working with Rachel, but something about the man never sat right with Nate.

He spotted James in the shadows, waiting nervously. Nate approached him, his guard up. "You wanted to meet," Nate said, his voice cold.

James nodded, a desperate look in his eyes. "I have information about your wife, Allyson. But it will cost you."

Nate's patience was wearing thin. "How much?"

"Fifty thousand dollars," James replied, a greedy glint in his eye.

Nate scoffed. "And what do you have that's worth that much?"

James began spinning a web of lies, concocting stories about Allyson's supposed affairs and deceit. He painted a picture of a woman who was using Nate for her own gain, feeding his insecurities and doubts. But Nate's love for Allyson was stronger than the doubts James was trying to plant.

"I don't believe you," Nate said firmly. "Stop calling me or texting me, or I'll involve the police."

As he turned to leave, he heard a click behind him. He turned back to see James pointing a gun at him.

Allyson's POV

Allyson had followed Nate to the warehouse, her heart pounding with worry. She couldn't let him face this alone. As she saw the confrontation unfold, she realized James' true intentions.

When she saw the gun, she screamed, "Nate, no!"

She sprinted towards him, but it was too late. The gun went off, and the bullet hit her in the chest. The pain was immediate and intense. She fell to the ground, gasping for breath.

James took off, disappearing into the night, leaving chaos in his wake.

Nate's POV

"Ally!" Nate shouted, rushing to her side. He cradled her in his arms, his mind racing. Blood flowed from her wound, staining his hands.

"No, no, no," he muttered, his voice breaking. He fumbled for his phone and dialed 911, his fingers trembling. "I need an ambulance! My wife has been shot!"

As he waited for help to arrive, he held Allyson close, tears streaming down his face. "Stay with me, Ally. Please, stay with me."

Allyson's eyes fluttered, her breaths shallow. "Nate... I love you," she whispered.

"I love you too, Ally. Just hold on. Help is coming."

The sound of sirens grew closer, but Nate's heart was filled with fear. He couldn't lose her. Not now, not ever.

The paramedics arrived, swiftly taking over and loading Allyson onto a stretcher. Nate followed them to the ambulance, his heart pounding with dread. As the doors closed and the ambulance sped away, Nate prayed for Allyson's life.

But as he looked down at his blood-stained hands, he couldn't shake the feeling that their lives were about to change forever. The fight for the truth, for their love, had taken a dangerous turn, and he knew the road ahead would be fraught with challenges.

As the ambulance raced towards the hospital, Nate vowed to uncover the full truth and protect Allyson at all costs. But with enemies lurking in the shadows, he knew the battle was far from over.
