Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Father's Guidance

As Luis Walter stood outside Alex's room, he couldn't help but feel a pang of unease. The growing distance between his eldest son and the rest of the family had become a persistent headache, one that he knew he could no longer ignore.

Steeling himself, Luis knocked on the door, his expression a blend of concern and resolve. "Alex? It's me, your father. Can I come in?"

To his relief, Alex's voice rang out, reassuring him that the young man was doing well. "I'm fine, Dad. Come on in."

When Luis entered the room, he couldn't help but marvel at the transformation before him. Alex, once a sickly child, had grown into a handsome, poised young man, his fine features and stature belying his tender years. At just 8 years old, Alex already stood taller than the average 10-year-old, a testament to the powerful genes that ran through the Walter family.

Luis couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as he took in the sight of his son. "You look quite dashing, Alex," he said, a warm smile spreading across his face. "The guests are going to be impressed."

Alex returned the smile, a hint of gratitude in his eyes. "Thank you, Dad. I appreciate it."

Sensing an opportunity to bridge the gap, Luis placed a gentle hand on Alex's shoulder. "You know, son, I know things haven't been easy for you. But I want you to know that your mother Martha and I, we're here for you. We want to help you through this."

Alex nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I know, Dad. It's just... a lot to take in, you know? But I'm trying, I really am."

Luis gave his son's shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "That's all we can ask, Alex. And I'm proud of you, for facing this head-on."

With a deep breath, Alex straightened his shoulders and headed for the door. "Well, I suppose it's time to make my grand entrance, huh?" he said, a hint of mischief in his voice.

Luis chuckled, falling into step beside his son. "Indeed it is. And I'll be right there with you, every step of the way."

As they made their way downstairs, Luis couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of purpose. This was his family, his legacy, and he was determined to see it through, no matter the challenges that lay ahead. With a newfound determination, he led Alex into the garden, where the guests were gathered, and introduced his eldest son to the eager crowd.

Alex, standing tall and proud, took a deep breath and began to speak, his voice clear and confident. The guests, captivated by his poise and presence, listened intently, their admiration for the young Walter heir growing with every word.

Alex's voice rang out, clear and confident, as he addressed the gathered guests. "Thank you all for coming tonight. I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the festivities."The guests responded enthusiastically, their murmurs of approval and anticipation filling the air. Luis couldn't help but feel a swell of pride as he watched his son interact with the crowd.

Placing a hand on Alex's shoulder, Luis turned to introduce him to another guest. "Alex, I'd like you to meet your Uncle John Howlett. He's been a dear friend of mine for years."

Alex extended his hand, a warm smile spreading across his face. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Uncle John. I've heard so many wonderful things about you."

John Howlet grasped Alex's hand firmly, his own face alight with a genuine smile. "The pleasure is all mine, my boy. I can't wait to get to know you better."

Luis watched the exchange with a growing sense of relief. The tension that had once hung between his eldest son and the rest of the family seemed to dissipate, replaced by a genuine connection that filled him with hope.

As the conversation continued, Luis felt a gentle tug on his sleeve. Turning, he found his wife, Martha, approaching with their youngest son, Rhaegar, in tow.

"Luis, dear, I was wondering if you could come with me for a moment," Martha said, her voice tinged with a hint of concern.

Luis nodded, his gaze shifting to the toddler who was now tugging playfully at his beard. "Of course, my love. Is Rhaegar giving you trouble again?"

Martha let out a soft chuckle. "You know how he is. He's determined to have your full attention, it seems."

With a warm smile, Luis reached down and scooped Rhaegar into his arms, eliciting a delighted squeal from the young boy. As he followed Martha, he couldn't help but wonder about the lingering tension between his wife and their eldest son. It was a rift that he knew he could not change overnight, but one that he was determined to mend, for the sake of his family.

John Howlet looked at Alex with a warm smile. "You've got a wonderful family, my boy. I can see the Walter family is in good hands with you."

Alex felt a twinge of discomfort at the mention of his family, but he quickly pushed it aside. "Thank you, Uncle John. The Howlet Manor, I've heard it's quite beautiful. Do you think I could come and visit sometime?"

John's face lit up at the request. "Why, of course, Alex! I'd be delighted to have you. My son, James, would be thrilled to have a new friend to play with."

Alex's eyes widened with interest. "James? I'd love to meet him. Where is he tonight?"

John's expression dimmed slightly. "Ah, well, you see, young James hasn't been feeling his best lately. He's had to sit this one out, I'm afraid. But I'm sure he'll be all right soon enough."

Alex couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for the absent James. "I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he gets well soon."

John waved a hand dismissively. "No need to worry, my boy. James is a tough one, just like his old man. I heard that Walter's family and your late mother's Gray family have been blessed with quite a bit of land over the years. Your father, Luis, also inherited a sizable estate from the Martha family, didn't he?"

Alex nodded, a spark of interest in his eyes. "Yes, I believe so. The Walter Manor is quite expansive, and the Gray Castle as well."

"Ah, yes, indeed," John replied. "Did you know that the Martha family, your mother's side, has even more land? Your Walter family now owns a total of more than 60,000 acres of plantation, if I'm not mistaken. A truly vast estate, if I do say so myself."

Alex's brows rose in surprise. "Wow, that's quite impressive. You know, you should speak to my father about it. I'm sure he'd know more about it than I would."

John chuckled. "Ah, yes, well, you're still young, my boy. But perhaps one day, you and I can discuss the finer points of land management and family legacies."

With a final pat on Alex's shoulder, John excused himself, eager to mingle with the other guests. Alex watched him go, a newfound curiosity stirring within him. His family's vast holdings had always been something of a mystery, but now, he found himself eager to learn more.

As he turned to rejoin the festivities, Alex couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. Perhaps this connection with his uncle could be the start of something meaningful, a bridge between him and the rest of the Walter Family .

Luis found Martha waiting for him, their young son Rhaegar in tow. The toddler's chubby fingers were still tugging playfully at his father's beard, eliciting a warm chuckle from Luis.

As Luis approached, Martha's expression was pensive, her brow slightly furrowed. "Luis, dear, I've been meaning to talk to you about something."

Luis nodded, sensing the gravity in her tone. "Of course, my love. What is it?"

Martha glanced around, ensuring they were out of earshot of the other guests. "It's about Alex and the family's land holdings. You know that my father's side owns a significant portion of the land in the Walter land estates. It's... it's not entirely fair, is it?"

Luis sighed, shifting Rhaegar's weight in his arms. "I understand your concern, Martha. You must know that the Walter family's land will only continue to grow in the years to come. In time, Alex and Rhaegar will have enough land to build their own estate.."

Martha's lips pressed into a thin line. "But what about now, Luis? Alex is the eldest, and he'll inherit the bulk of it. Rhaegar, he deserve a fair chance as well."

Luis reached out, placing a gentle hand on his wife's arm. "My love, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, let's just focus on enjoying this evening and celebrating our family."

Martha's gaze softened, and she nodded reluctantly. "You're right, of course. This isn't the time to discuss such matters. Let's just... let's just be present in the moment."

Luis smiled, pulling her into a brief embrace. "That's my girl. Come, let's go find Rhaegar a snack. I'm sure he's getting hungry."

As they moved back into the crowd, Luis couldn't help but feel the weight of Martha's concerns. He knew that the issue of land and inheritance was a delicate one, and he would need to tread carefully in the years to come. But for now, he was content to savor the joy of this family gathering, knowing that the future would bring its own challenges – and opportunities – for the Walter Family.
