Samantha broke the silence first.
"So. Do we talk about the mysterious shadow visitor, or do we pretend it didn't happen until tomorrow morning?"
"Both," Kai said immediately. "We pretend it didn't happen now and then fight about it over coffee."
"Strategic avoidance," Marcus muttered.
"Healthy coping mechanism," Kai corrected.
Samantha snorted. "That sounds suspiciously like something a therapist would say."
"I am very therapeutic," Kai said with a wolfish grin.
Marcus gave him a look. "You are many things. Therapeutic is not one of them."
"Oh, don't pout," Kai teased. He rolled onto his side, propping his head on his hand. "You get all broody and grim, Callum sets things on fire with his mind, and I provide comic relief. It's balance."
"And Samantha?" Callum asked without turning from the window.
Kai's grin softened, his voice lowering. "She's the reason all of this doesn't fall apart."
