The hollow's work songs grew more complex, incorporating melodic phrases that echoed the harmonies of The Wellspring, though rendered in their own raw, powerful style. They began to experiment. Inspired by the dream-images of irrigation channels, Elian and Corvin led a project to divert the precious pump-water through shallow, hand-dug trenches that snaked through their expanding garden, a primitive but effective mimicry of what they'd seen.
