Chapter 550 - Chapter 562: Change

In the original story, even though Dr. Bailey was captured by CIA agents and taken aboard a U.S. military transport plane, he managed to kill everyone on board—including the CIA agent pursuing Frank—by using a nerve gas he'd hidden in his shoe years ago. Afterward, he still managed to land the plane at an abandoned airfield in London. Why was he so obsessed with landing on British soil? This alone shows just how much this brilliant weapons designer hated the treacherous British.

But it's not surprising. While Dr. Bailey was a genius when it came to weapons design, it was clear he was skilled in the technical sciences but lacked the same proficiency in the humanities. He was too easily deceived by the British.

Anyone who knows a bit of history understands that if there were a global ranking for shamelessness, the British would be at the top. If Hitler hadn't broken their spine during World War II, allowing their little cousin in North America to rise, Britain, the perpetual European shit-stirrer, might have held the title of the world's most shameless champion!

Look at how this nation rose to prominence. The highest authority in the land, the monarchy, issued "letters of marque" to pirates! What other European country would dare to do such a thing? And because Britain was isolated from the European mainland, it constantly stirred up trouble, fearing that any strong power in Europe might threaten them. From the 15th century onward, Britain was always meddling in European affairs, causing disasters for neighbors like France, from Napoleon to Louis XVI, the king who lost his head to the revolutionaries.

Then came Hitler. Who doesn't know that one reason he thought "I can do it" was thanks to Neville Chamberlain's appeasement policy, which allowed him to reclaim the Sudetenland without firing a shot? That early string of victories inflated Hitler's ambitions, leading to the two-front war that ensued.

Britain's history is hard to sum up in a few words, but suffice it to say that before the U.S. became the world's dominant power, Britain was perhaps the most reviled nation on the planet. As for their so-called "gentlemen"? That's just window dressing. After gorging themselves on the blood of colonial empires, the same pirates swapped their blood-stained garb for suits and began pretending to be civilized, calling themselves gentlemen.

It's the epitome of hypocrisy!

So when the U.S., the British's little cousin in North America, became the world's top superpower, it's no surprise they inherited Britain's shamelessness. After all, their ancestors were Anglo-Saxons, just like the British. This lack of moral integrity runs in their blood. Remember the passengers aboard the Mayflower? They were criminals—thieves, frauds, murderers—exiled from Britain. These people are the true ancestors of modern America. Can you really expect a nation founded by such people to uphold high moral standards?

Understanding all this, one can sympathize with the anger of Dr. Bailey, who was wrongfully imprisoned for over thirty years. Even though he was no saint—his life's ambition was to see his weapons of mass destruction put to use—the British and their American cousins deserved no pity in this matter.

But no matter what, allowing Dr. Bailey to detonate a massive bomb in London was unacceptable, which is why Castle had tipped off Frank before Bailey could release his plan online.

When Sean pressed Castle with his questions, Castle took a moment to consider his options. Ultimately, he decided to reveal part of the truth to his father. After all, it seemed Frank hadn't sought help from that old Soviet agent obsessed with Victoria, but had instead turned to Sean. Without the help of that former Soviet agent, it was unlikely that Frank and his team could break Bailey out of the Tower of London. So, Castle shared what he knew.

As expected, Sean was shocked when he learned from Castle that his subordinates had placed a sizable bomb in the Kremlin's secret chamber thirty years ago—and that now this secret had been leaked online by the insane Dr. Bailey, prompting Russia to go on high alert. Sean couldn't believe the horrifying details of this situation.

"Rick, are you saying that the leak about 'Project Nightshade' online was orchestrated by the same Dr. Bailey, who's locked up in the Tower of London? And his goal is to lure Frank and his team into rescuing him, knowing they'd be hunted down by the Russians?"

Sean was fully engrossed in the explosive revelations his son was sharing, unable to fathom that all of this had been concocted by a genius weapons designer locked away in an insane asylum. He instinctively wanted confirmation.

Castle, of course, wouldn't let his father walk into Bailey's trap. During his conversation with Sean, Castle learned that the Russians had already ramped up security around the Kremlin. This realization made Castle understand that things might not play out the same way as they did in his previous life, where he had watched the original storyline unfold. The fact that Russia was now on high alert due to the information Bailey had leaked online signaled that breaking into the Kremlin, even with Sean's help, would be far more difficult than before. Was Bailey about to suffer the consequences of his own actions?

Since things were diverging from Castle's past memories, and to avoid any unexpected outcomes, Castle decided to come clean with his father about everything he knew. He understood that the Russians were already searching the Kremlin for the red mercury bomb, and only Bailey himself could disarm it. After hearing the latest developments from Sean, Castle realized that his early intervention had caused a significant butterfly effect. While it was unclear whether this was a good or bad thing, Castle didn't want the Russians to discover the bomb. If they did, they might use it as leverage against the U.S. and Britain, leading to unpredictable consequences—likely something disastrous that could shatter Castle's peaceful life.

Furthermore, Castle was concerned about his father. Now that Frank was isolated and had turned to Sean for help, any misstep in this delicate situation could be disastrous for Sean as well.

With all of this in mind, Castle shared all the details he knew with his father before the evening banquet began. He wanted to ensure Sean wouldn't unknowingly get involved in something dangerous. Castle was well aware that in the original story, the Russians had only sent an agent, Katja (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones), to track Frank down in France. In reality, however, based on Sean's intel, Katja had already gone to London, and the Kremlin was now on high alert. No matter how skilled Frank's team was, they stood little chance against a fully prepared Russian government unless a miracle occurred.

For Castle, protecting his comfortable life from the rage of the Russians and ensuring his father didn't get dragged into this mess meant rethinking his plan. Originally, he had intended to stay out of it, but the unfolding situation forced him to reconsider.

Having always benefited from his foreknowledge of the storyline, Castle now found that his interference with Frank had triggered a series of changes. Whether these changes were good or bad remained unclear, but it was troubling for Castle. If the plot deviated too far from what he knew, his inside information might no longer be enough to maintain the upper hand. Suddenly, Castle realized he might have made a serious mistake.

He didn't share these concerns with Sean immediately, as the Dantonio family's banquet was about to begin. Castle and his father agreed to discuss everything in more detail after the banquet, planning to carefully reassess their strategy before making any further moves.
