The Russian leadership was already in a state of rage after learning about the red mercury bomb hidden in the Kremlin, and they were urgently arranging a full-scale search of the presidential palace. The problem, however, was that Frank and his team had originally placed the bomb in an extremely secretive chamber, and the Kremlin was enormous. Who knew if they would even be able to find the bomb in time?
The simplest way to locate the bomb was to find the person who had placed it there in the first place.
In the original movie, this was one of the plot holes. Even though the Russians were aware of the bomb's presence, they sent Kaya to France to find Frank, hoping to intervene. However, to showcase the heroes' prowess and highlight the ideological differences between the USA and Russia, Frank and his team opted to handle the matter themselves. Moreover, Frank wanted to prove to Sarah that his relationship with the beautiful Russian agent Kaya was purely professional, so they chose to infiltrate the Kremlin on their own.
This led to the ridiculous scenario where Frank, Marvin, and the elderly Dr. Edward Bailey sneaked into the Kremlin through a restaurant's secret passage, with even Sarah tagging along as a lookout, making it look like a poorly thought-out heist. The notion that the Kremlin, the Russian capital and seat of presidential power, would be so poorly guarded was absurd, especially after discovering a bomb as powerful as a nuclear weapon was hidden inside.
In this new, more realistic world—where multiple film universes were blended together—things were different. Upon learning about the bomb, the Russian leader immediately locked down the entire Kremlin. This meant that no matter how skilled Frank was or how much help he received from Sean or Castle, sneaking into the Kremlin through a restaurant's secret passage was out of the question.
The priority now wasn't just to find the bomb but to find a way to disentangle themselves from the situation before Russia's wrath came crashing down on them.
What Frank and his team didn't yet know was that the Kremlin had already been sealed off, and Kaya, Frank's old flame and former KGB agent, was on her way to London.
Meanwhile, Frank was still focused on figuring out how to break Dr. Bailey out of London Tower. Since Bailey was the one who had built the bomb, only he knew how to defuse it, and that was what Frank needed him for. But trying to break Bailey out with just himself, Marvin, and Victoria wasn't going to cut it. Frank was already contemplating swallowing his pride and asking Sean for help. Without more assistance, especially with Sarah being more of a hindrance than help, their plan to infiltrate London Tower seemed doomed.
At that very moment, Sean, the person Frank was thinking about, was happily chatting with his granddaughter Alexis in Rome. He had arrived in the afternoon, and after briefly exchanging pleasantries with the respectful old Don Dantonio, he eagerly excused himself to spend time with Alexis. He promised to attend the grand banquet that evening, hosted in his honor, but right now, all Sean wanted was to enjoy a rare moment of family happiness. As for the treasure Castle had seized from Vincent Adler, which they had discussed earlier, Sean merely told Castle to be prepared for his men to come and take the treasure off his hands. It wasn't something Castle should hold onto for long.
This news brought Castle some relief, as he had been feeling the financial strain lately due to the massive costs associated with acquiring a high-performance supercomputer. Not only would the computer itself be expensive, but the storage servers and buildings needed to house it were also substantial investments. Even after purchasing it, the monthly electricity bill would be astronomical. Castle, who once considered himself wealthy, now felt overwhelmed by the financial burden and was ready to part with the treasure in his possession.
However, getting rid of the treasure quietly, without attracting the attention of the FBI—which was still actively searching for its whereabouts—required Sean's help. Not even the powerful Dantonio family could assist in this matter. Only Sean, who had close ties with the elders of the high table, or the mysterious figure controlling the high table, could discreetly offload the treasure without anyone tracing it back to Castle.
Sean, in a great mood, didn't want to bother discussing his son's problems right now. This was his first time meeting his granddaughter, Alexis, even though he had secretly sent bodyguards to protect both her and Martha for a long time. Due to certain undisclosed reasons, Sean had been unable to return to the USA, and even when he reunited with Castle in Paris, he hadn't had the chance to meet Alexis.
This trip to Europe, with Castle bringing Alexis along under the pretext of tourism, was also an opportunity for Sean to meet his former subordinates, Frank Moses and his team, who had contacted him through secret channels requesting a meeting. But deep down, Sean's primary motivation was to finally meet his granddaughter.
Alexis, having heard from her father that her grandfather was a powerful and influential figure, was intrigued. Sean was the epitome of a distinguished older gentleman, and with the familial bond between them, she quickly warmed up to him. Before long, Alexis and Sean were chatting and laughing together like they had known each other for years.
Meanwhile, Sean seemed to forget all about his son. After instructing Castle to handle the treasure, he waved him away, leaving Castle to deal with the logistics while he spent time bonding with Alexis. Sean acted like any regular grandfather, cheerfully enjoying his time with his granddaughter, while Don Dantonio, ever perceptive, gave them space and went off to prepare for the evening's banquet.
Gianna had retired for a nap, leaving Castle and John to sort out the transport of the treasure. John, who had been directly involved in taking down Vincent Adler and shooting him himself, helped Castle arrange for a large enough container truck to transport the treasure. John wasn't entirely sure how Castle had managed to smuggle the treasure out of the USA and into Rome without anyone knowing, but he didn't ask. Castle simply told John to have Gianna's men prepare a truck, and then Castle left the Dantonio family's castle on his own. He needed to find a secluded spot to unload the treasure from his spatial storage. Of course, Castle didn't intend to hand over the gold bars embossed with the eagle insignia and Hitler's mustache—he planned to melt those down at a later time. But the more problematic art pieces and artifacts were going to be handed over to Sean for safekeeping.
When Sean and Alexis returned from their stroll in the garden, John informed them that Castle had left, most likely to deal with the treasure. Sean, realizing just how deeply connected and resourceful his son had become, was impressed.
Castle had managed to move the treasure from New York to Rome without alerting the FBI, all while under heavy surveillance. This wasn't something just anyone could pull off. Sean, understanding that his son held many secrets, saw this not as a bad thing but as a strength. The more capable Castle became, the better he could protect himself, Martha, and Alexis. Sean, who had long been at odds with the CIA's secret organization, "Roxette," used to worry that if Castle's relationship with him were exposed, his enemies would target his son. But now, Sean felt those concerns were unnecessary.
