Jerry Tyson didn't show any resistance to the police's arrangement. In fact, he even joked about the honor of spending the night talking to a bestselling author who dominated the New York Times list.
Castle, on the other hand, played along effortlessly, joking with the cold-blooded killer, saying that if Marcus really came after Tyson tonight, he would personally protect him. He even bragged about his impressive marksmanship and how he was a super cop, held back only by his writing career, assuring Tyson that he and Officer Ryan would guarantee his safety.
But as soon as Castle turned away, his face grew serious. He quietly stepped into Beckett's office and shared a startling revelation: "Earlier, when I stepped away for a bit, I went to verify some of Jerry Tyson's claims. To my surprise, many of the things he's said are completely fabricated. This has made me more suspicious—there's something off about him."
Castle continued, "I know you think I'm being paranoid, but Beckett, since I won't be joining tonight's operation and instead will be with Ryan, accompanying Tyson, I hope you'll at least consider the possibility that Tyson might be working with Marcus Gates."
He then added, "I bought a few hidden cameras earlier. I'll secretly give one to Ryan and wear one myself. That way, you'll be able to see everything in real-time while we're with Tyson. I've set your computer up to receive the live feed from both cameras. I still think there's something suspicious about Tyson, so let's err on the side of caution."
This was yet another instance of Castle expressing distrust towards Tyson, and this time Beckett didn't dismiss him as easily. While Castle was often lighthearted and unpredictable, she knew he wasn't one to make baseless accusations. Though Beckett didn't fully understand his sudden suspicions about the seemingly weak Tyson, she didn't want to go against her boyfriend over something small. If Castle wanted to wear a camera, she'd let him, especially since Ryan would be there, ensuring everything would be under control.
However, Beckett didn't know that Castle was preparing for something much bigger—to have a legitimate reason to shoot and kill Jerry Tyson if he tried to escape and steal Ryan's gun. Castle had already made up his mind to eliminate this dangerous, high-IQ killer once and for all. After all, Castle didn't want to risk Tyson escaping and coming back to hurt him, Beckett, Esposito, or Lanie.
Castle's subtle hinting to Beckett was his way of setting the stage, as he couldn't outright explain why he knew Tyson was the real 3XK killer, not Marcus Gates. While Castle had mentioned verifying Tyson's lies earlier, the police and FBI were still convinced that Marcus was the 3XK killer. Castle had no choice but to wait until Tyson exposed himself, allowing him to take action.
Beckett, preoccupied with the impending raid to capture Marcus Gates, didn't dwell on Castle's concerns. She quickly agreed and moved on, focusing on the task at hand.
After informing Beckett, Castle discreetly met with Ryan, who would be joining him and Tyson at the motel later. Castle easily convinced Ryan to wear the hidden camera as part of his plan, and Ryan, trusting Castle, agreed without hesitation.
With everything in place, Castle settled in, eagerly awaiting nightfall. He couldn't help but feel a touch of dark anticipation. What would Tyson's reaction be when, just as he thought his escape plan was about to succeed, Castle stepped in and revealed his true identity? The thought of catching the killer off guard filled Castle with excitement.
Meanwhile, Beckett, busy preparing the team for the raid to capture Marcus, didn't notice Castle's minor preparations. To her, it was just Castle being his usual, eccentric self. She was more focused on preventing another murder by the real 3XK, Marcus Gates.
Unbeknownst to Beckett, however, Jerry Tyson himself was growing increasingly anxious. Castle's unexpected involvement had thrown off his plans. In the original plot, Tyson had intentionally leaked information to lead the police to Marcus at The Boar bar, but Marcus had never shown up. Tyson was beginning to wonder if Marcus had gone rogue, abandoning their carefully laid-out scheme.
Both Beckett and Tyson now shared the same goal: finding Marcus. Beckett wanted to stop the killings, and Tyson needed to know if his partner in crime had strayed from the plan. Without Marcus, Tyson feared he'd lose his leverage over the police, making it harder for him to escape.
Tyson realized that his best chance of escape might be tonight, while the police were fully occupied with the raid. With only Castle and Ryan watching over him, he could take advantage of the chaos and make his move. If the police didn't find Marcus in Brooklyn, they would start questioning the accuracy of Tyson's intel, making it even harder for him to flee later. Tonight would be his best—and possibly only—chance to escape.
Meanwhile, FBI agents Diana and Jones were interviewing Tyson, hoping to extract more information about Marcus. Despite being skilled investigators, the agents were completely deceived by Tyson, who spun an intricate web of lies. Since Tyson was the true 3XK, he knew intimate details about the murders, information only the killer could know. By pretending these details were things Marcus had told him, Tyson easily convinced the FBI that Marcus was the 3XK killer they had been hunting for years.
Excited by the level of detail Tyson provided, the FBI agents believed they were on the verge of solving a case that had humiliated both the police and the FBI for years.
As nightfall approached, Esposito returned with good news. His scouting team had found a suspicious apartment near the Brooklyn Bridge, one that matched the description of Marcus Gates' hideout. Beckett quickly assembled her team and prepared to move out. Before leaving, she instructed Castle and Ryan to take Tyson to a nearby motel to rest while the raid took place.
Castle, knowing Tyson's real plans, was more than ready for the night ahead. With everything set in motion, he followed Beckett's instructions, fully aware that this would be the night when Jerry Tyson would finally be exposed and brought down.
As Beckett and her team rushed off to Brooklyn, Castle, Ryan, and Tyson headed to the motel. Castle, excited by the thought of Tyson's impending downfall, could hardly wait for the moment when the killer would reveal his true colors, and Castle would be there to stop him.
