"Is it important?" Jian Xi asked again.
Nan Mufeng glanced back at her, then silently withdrew his gaze and continued digging through the trash.
Technically, he was the one who lost the ring. If he couldn't find it, how would he explain to Jian Xi when she started wondering about the ring later?
"I don't know." Li Qing shrugged, continuing to feign ignorance.
In truth, she still didn't quite understand. Nan Mufeng was so wealthy, losing a ring shouldn't matter; he could just buy another one!
Alas, seeing Nan Mufeng so anxious made her regret not telling the truth. Now, admitting that she took the ring out of the cake would be inappropriate; she could only keep lying.
Years later, Li Qing understood. When you tell one lie, you're destined to tell more lies to cover it up.
"Really... it's puzzling."
Jian Xi shook her head and was about to walk away when Nan Mufeng exclaimed joyfully, "Found it!"
