They had sat in that quiet long enough. Aurora opened her eyes. The tablet chime still seemed to hang in the air, the kind of sound that turned a hospital stay into a schedule.
"We move now," she said, "not after they get comfortable."
Kane leaned forward. "What do you want me to do?"
"Stay in the room unless counsel says otherwise," Aurora replied. "If they ask you anything without a lawyer present, you say you are cooperating and you wait."
She thought, "This is the same game as the boardroom, only the chairs are vinyl and the stakes are orange jumpsuits."
Aurora pulled her phone to her ear with a steady hand that surprised her. Anita picked up on the second ring.
"Ms. Bernett," Anita said, voice careful.
