Chapter 294 Aleshia's Pantry Request
Now that Aleshia had their attention, she began to explain her idea of cooking for the children. "The supplies in the camp have grown a lot, and I'd like to use what's in the pantry to prepare meals for the kids. Still, I want to make sure I have your permission before proceeding, as I understand it, we are limited in food," Aleshia said.
Daniel and Rebel were primarily focused on the paperwork, but listened to Aleshia's request. After some consideration and internal deliberation, they reviewed the amount of food they had stocked up. They were ready to make a decision, but before moving forward with Aleshia's idea, Rebel asked, "Are you able to cook meals other than fish stew? I know what I am asking may be harsh, but I don't want to see the food we've purchased go to waste, especially at this time of year. Also, we're just getting back on our feet. You should be extravagant with the ingredients, either." Rebel argued.
Daniel agreed, "We don't necessarily have a lot of money to spare for extravagance, as she mentioned. In short, are you able to keep things simple and prepare a meal that will feed everyone without leaving the camp short on food supplies?"
Aleshia didn't hesitate to answer, confidently responding, "You don't need to worry about that. I've checked the supplies and have several recipes in mind that will make full use of the ingredients without any waste."
After receiving Aleshia's confident assurance, the two agreed to let her use the food supplies. "Alright then, you may do as you wish, as long as you can feed everyone with what you prepare," Rebel stated, with Daniel adding, "Just be sure to have enough left over for those who won't be able to enjoy the breakfast you're making, and make sure to leave enough for tomorrow and the next day."
"I understand, and thank you." Aleshia bowed before leaving the office. As she headed to the kitchen, she noticed the children, who were already awake and playing together. Reflecting on her first impressions, she saw that they were now much healthier than when she had first met them. They were no longer skin and bones, and instead, they appeared well-fed and plumper.
Seeing how well the children were doing excited Aleshia and motivated her to cook a meal for them. Aleshia raided the food pantry, gathering what she needed while Lucia occasionally pulled on the reins to prevent her from taking too much and going overboard.
