The sun was beginning to set, casting a sunset glow over the plains and mountains.
It was nearly 5 PM when the village where we would stay for the first night came into view.
On the way to a large city, several villages were scattered along the route.
While people often associate adventurers and travelers with camping outdoors, they usually don't do so unless they're on a forced march.
First, it's too dangerous. In a world with monsters and bandits, sleeping outside is extremely risky.
It's far safer to sleep inside a village, even if it's still technically outdoors within its boundaries.
Second—though I hope it never happens—is the possibility of betrayal between adventurers.
It's rare, but it does occasionally occur.
The reason is usually things like monopolizing a rare item drop or claiming the full reward from defeating a rare monster.
…I can't imagine anyone wanting to bear the sin for something like that.
