Chapter 184: Request for Aid
"Temporary speed boost!"
Pressing himself tightly on the coffin lid, he gripped the iron chain with both hands, pushing the evil coffin to full speed.
The evil coffin's original speed was already 250 kilometers per hour. With the boost, Gu Xi was almost thrown off, but he held on tightly to the iron chain, preventing himself from being flung off.
Within seconds, Gu Xi returned to the base of his city gate.
Before he could fully rally his undead troops for battle, a loud bang erupted behind him.
Gu Xi didn't even consider looking back. He quickly released his grip and slid off the evil coffin, evading the blast's shockwave.
However, the anticipated shockwave did not occur.
Aside from the explosion sound, there was no further movement.
Curiously, Gu Xi peeked out and saw a large crater where he had previously placed the farmer's cabin.
There was nothing else.
The castle was gone, and the ghost troops that had followed were also gone.
Everything in front of him was clean as if nothing had happened.
Only the large crater proved what had just occurred.
"Phew, almost died in there."
Looking at the huge crater, Gu Xi swallowed hard and finally let out a sigh of relief.
If it weren't for the evil coffin's temporary speed boost, if Gu Xi had been distracted by the pop-up prompt, the explosion could have engulfed him too.
Now, he stood at the edge of the crater, observing everything.
Glancing at the crater, Gu Xi really wanted to ask what had happened during the explosion.
But these undead couldn't communicate with Gu Xi, so he had to let it go.
With this attack halted, Gu Xi's side finally quieted down.
The pirate ship and castle couldn't take down Gu Xi's defended node, and the ghosts knew this area was tough. They were reconsidering their next move.
Meanwhile, at the core of the Necromancer's ritual array, the Archmage was chanting incantations, surrounded by sixty undead mage players.
Unlike the mages defending outside, these players specialized in poison or cold attributes.
They weren't skilled in commanding undead troops, but they were strong in poison or ice attacks.
Now they were channeling their mana, creating green or ice-blue energy balls and infusing them into the Necromancer's ritual array.
Each infusion caused the Archmage's complexion to change, from green to white, then to red.
It was clear he was adjusting the mana input each time.
Outside these undead mages, more were preparing for the next phase.
Anyone low on mana was immediately replaced.
They were well aware of the situation.
The ghost attacks were intense, and nearly all of the outer ritual nodes had fallen.
They had one last chance; if they failed, everyone here would be finished.
At that moment, a dozen gargoyles flew in.
Before they got close, several undead mage players spotted them.
They sent their minions to intercept them.
Given the current situation, they couldn't trust even the undead, let alone a group of gargoyles.
The gargoyles descended and handed Gu Xi's letter to an undead mage.
After reading it, the mage looked puzzled and showed it to a companion.
"There's still someone alive at the frontline array node, how is that possible?"
"Who is it?" another mage asked curiously.
"Gu Xi, also known as the Breath of the Undead? Never heard of him, is he a guild member?"
The mage holding the letter scrutinized Gu Xi's signature, puzzled.
"Yes, he is. Remember the one the Archmage called aside? That's Gu Xi, I heard he holds one of the three divine skills."
"One of the three divine skills, I remember now. It's the Death Incarnation, right? No wonder he can hold out, with a divine skill, survival rates are high."
"No, I heard it's Death City. Only a skill like Death City could sustain the frontline."
"Wrong, it's Death Incarnation. I've seen his bone dragon before."
"Death City."
Seeing the mages about to argue, an elderly undead mage intervened.
"Guys, stop arguing. Is it possible that Gu Xi holds two of the three divine skills?"
"How is that possible?"
"Exactly, having one is already extremely lucky, two would be cheating."
But the elderly mage insisted, "Don't forget, he had a title from the academy, likely given by their dean.
This indicates he had this talent in the academy.
Some people are just born lucky.
Can't compare, really can't compare."
"Now isn't the time for this. We should be discussing what to do about his request for aid. Should we support him?"
"Support him? Do we have soldiers? Mana? Nothing. How can we support him? Stop the final ritual of the Necromancer's array?
That's impossible. He has to hold out on his own."
The elderly mage shook his head helplessly.
"I've seen this often, survival means recognition. We should just do our job."
Saying this, the mage retreated, leaving the one holding Gu Xi's letter in an awkward position.
"What are you doing? Restore your energy and mana. We can't decide this. Leave the letter and wait for the Archmage. Send the gargoyles back.
Even a few gargoyles are better than nothing."
A companion advised the mage holding the letter.
Realizing this, the mage was about to deliver the letter to the information center when Liu Kai suddenly approached.
"I heard you mention Gu Xi, what happened? Can I see the letter?"
