Chapter 21 - EVERETT

WOAH! I kissed him.

Yes—me. I actually kissed him. And WOAH, it was not subtle.

I know I always said I don't believe in love, or feelings, or any of that emotional mess. But when it comes to him, I want to believe. I want everything I used to deny.

Later that day, I asked Austin where Amy was. He told me she had to rush to the hospital for some urgent work. I was confused—what could possibly be so important? So I headed straight to the hospital myself.

When I arrived, I flung open the office door and dramatically announced:

"ADAM! SURPRISE!"

But the scene I walked into left me speechless.

I… I don't even have words to describe it.

Amy and Adam. Kissing.

They immediately jumped apart when they saw me standing there.

"What the HELL is going on here?!"

My voice dropped an octave, dark and demanding. They both flinched slightly, clearly caught off guard.

"It's not her fault—it started with me," Adam said, stepping forward nervously.

"And it's not entirely his fault either, Everett," Amy added quickly.

I crossed my arms. "I need a damn explanation. Now."

Adam hesitated, then admitted it: "We're in a relationship."

I blinked. "Since when?"

Amy looked down, then softly replied, "Since… after your accident."

I paused for a beat… then walked up and pulled both of them into a hug.

"I'm really happy for you guys," I said sincerely.

They looked shocked.

"Wait—you're not mad?" Amy asked.

"Of course not," I chuckled. "You two are idiots if you thought I wouldn't be happy. I saw the way you looked at each other. It was written all over your faces."

"You're very observant," Adam said with a grin.

"Proud of it," I smirked.

Amy suddenly lit up. "Okay, now it's your turn".

"You sound way too excited," Adam laughed.

"Please take your seats," I said, already bracing myself for their reactions.

Once they were seated, I spilled everything—from the kiss to the confession.

"I told him," I said, trying not to blush, "I'll be chasing you, loving you, missing you, craving you… until you're mine. Until you're my boyfriend."

Amy screamed so loudly I was pretty sure the glass windows trembled. She practically tackled me in a hug.

"So love is in the air!" Adam teased. "And finally—a green flag from the woman who used to say love was a scam."

We laughed. For the first time in a long while, it felt like everything was falling into place.

Later that evening, we decided to go out to celebrate. Amy shouted, "Let's go out! I need drinks, and I want to see Everett dance like the maniac she is."

We hit a nearby bar, grabbed a couple of drinks, and let loose. I danced. I laughed. I felt like myself again for the first time in months.

Somewhere between the lights, the music, and the buzz—I caught myself thinking about him. About Edwin.

He doesn't even know it yet, but I've fallen. And I'm going to show him love in every possible way, whether he believes in it or not.

Around 2 a.m., we were far too drunk to even think about driving. I booked a cab for Adam and Amy, making sure they'd get home safe. As I was about to book one for myself, Adam suddenly snatched my phone out of my hands.

"What the hell, Adam?" I slurred.

He gave me a smirk and I knew who he was calling.

"Edwin's on his way," he said, like it was the most casual thing in the world.

Then he pulled me into a quick hug, kissed my forehead, and said softly, "Good luck, you emotional disaster."

When he arrived, he didn't say much. Just handed me my phone, tucked my hair behind my ear, and buckled my seatbelt without a word. His tired eyes and wrinkled shirt made it obvious—he had gotten out of bed just to pick me up.

I leaned back in the passenger seat, my heart full.

This man. This silent, stubborn, maddening man… is the man i fell for..

And maybe… just maybe, I'm his woman.
