Chapter 35 - Ties that bind

The passenger-side door swung open before I could get a good look at the person inside. Hoseok stepped out wearing a black, loose v-neck short-sleeve T-shirt, light beige high-waist straight-leg dress pants, and Jonathan D men's black penny moc loafers. For a moment, everything around me froze as I got mesmerized by his gorgeous figure. Not that any of my male friends don't have it—it's just different with him. He's a six-foot Korean man with a dazzling build, the kind you only ever see in manga.

A dream hubby—the kind you read about in novels and secretly hope to have someday. Well… except for the fact that he's a masochist.

A walking red flag—the kind that attracts prey like a honey trap. Anyone who gets caught either survives and ends up becoming a masochist like him… or turns into a psycho ex who refuses to let go.

But who cares about logic when Hoseok is literally right in front of me?

"OPPA!" I shouted, running straight to him and jumping into his arms.

Lao Zhan looked at me—his eyes widened in shock, his jaw tightening with jealousy. His shock lasted barely a second before jealousy snapped through him.

He marched straight toward us and slipped between us, prying me away from Hoseok as if the hug personally offended him.

Hold up. Why are we moving so fast? Who is Hoseok, and why did I jump into his arms like that? Why did he show up with Lao Zhan to fetch me from the hospital? Those are the questions running through your mind right now, aren't they?

Well, don't you worry—your little ancestor is here to answer all your questions. Now, where do we begin? Oh right, who is Hoseok?

He's Kim Hoseok, Taesong's older half-brother and a well-known business tycoon from South Korea. Actually, they share the same mother.

When Hoseok was six, his mom divorced his dad because he was just a cop and wasn't rich enough for her. She remarried Taesong's dad and wanted to bring Hoseok along, but Taesong's dad refused to be a stepdad to another man's son.

Faced with that, she had to choose between her son and marrying a rich tycoon. She chose the tycoon—and cruelly abandoned Hoseok.

It wasn't until ten years later, when Taesong was four and diagnosed with thalassemia, that the tycoon agreed to let her bring Hoseok back.

But by then, it was already too late.

Hoseok's dad died on duty, trying to save my mom from the Hexagonal gang. This tragedy left Hoseok an orphan—even though his mom was still alive.

Feeling guilty, my mom decided to adopt him. However, she let Hoseok stay in South Korea and keep his dad's last name so he could fulfill his filial duties to his father.

Hoseok's mom never attended his dad's funeral, which filled him with hatred—not just toward her but toward gold diggers like her who abandon their children for money.

After the tycoon agreed to let her bring Hoseok back, she rushed to their old house in Incheon, only to find the maid who looked after it. When she asked about her ex-husband and Hoseok, the maid revealed that Hoseok had moved to Seoul after his dad died and that she only visited the house occasionally.

The maid showed no interest in how her ex-husband died and only cared about locating Hoseok. When Hoseok's mom realized that he had been nearby all along, she felt a flicker of remorse.

Desperate, she rushed back to Seoul to ask her husband for help finding him.

The tycoon then sent his men to bring Hoseok to him after school. When Hoseok found out why they wanted him back, he was so furious that he stormed out of the house. With some unknown force backing him, the tycoon dared not make a move against him, hoping he would change his mind. Later that very day, Taesong overheard their conversation about Hoseok and ran away. By the time they noticed he was missing, he was already long gone.
