Outside, Earth burned.
The heroes—Aiden's girls, Wanda, Carol, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Hulk—were scattered across continents, each holding the line against the unending rain of Symbiotes. They killed them by the thousands, yet still they fell like black meteors, blotting out the sky. Every victory was swallowed by the swarm.
But in the base… another threat was already breaking through.
The reinforced doors buckled under a thunderous blow—then shattered. Sparks spat across the floor as Gwen whirled to the monitors, her face paling at the sight.
"What the hell—!? Val, we're under attack by… Captain America and—Xavier?! What is happening?!"
Valeria shot forward in her chair, her fingers flying over controls as automated turrets slid from the ceiling. "Charles Xavier. Steve Rogers. State your intentions immediately. Explain this madness."
Her words echoed coldly from the speakers—only to be silenced as Captain America hurled his shield. In one strike, it ricocheted through the room, shattering the turrets, the speakers, the cameras—snuffing their eyes and voices at once.
"Shit!" Gwen cursed, slamming her fists on the console. "Why? Why would they attack us? Are they being controlled? But—it's Xavier!"
Valeria's eyes narrowed, grim. "…No. They're not controlled. They're here because they want Aiden dead. They think he's vulnerable… that he's still lying in that bed."
Gwen froze. "…But why? Why now?"
"Fear," Val answered darkly. "Control. To them, Aiden isn't a savior. He's a threat. The strongest being alive, one no one can stop. The idea of him choosing a path they don't dictate terrifies them."
The room fell silent, the weight of betrayal heavier than the invasion outside.
"Damn it," Gwen whispered, panic rising. "Do we call the others? Or—do we stop Aiden's meditation? He's still with the Time Stone, Val—what if breaking him out ruins everything?"
Valeria bit her lip. "We can't. The others must hold the planet. And Aiden… no. Forcing him out now could destroy him—or worse. That leaves us." She pushed back from the console, her eyes flashing with resolve. "Looks like I'll be suiting up again."
But before she could rise—
A warm hand touched her shoulder. Another rested on Gwen's.
"Relax, girls," came a voice, calm but carrying a weight that silenced the storm.
Both turned at once.
"AIDEN!"
"I'm just about done with my 'thing,'" he said with a wry smile, though there was steel in his tone. "As for our visitors… don't worry. I'll handle them. It's about time I took their little threat seriously."
Then he leaned down, pressing a kiss to Valeria's lips—then Gwen's.
"Proud of you both," he whispered. "Keep holding things here, I'll deal with them"
...
The infiltration moved in silence. Captain America led the way, shield raised, Black Widow gliding at his side. Behind them marched Charles Xavier and his chosen X-Men—Jean, Cyclops, Logan, and Beast. Shield agents covered their flanks.
Then, in a flash, it was over.
Every agent—every last one except Cap and Natasha—detonated in a spray of gore. Flesh painted the walls. Bones rattled the floor. Captain wiped a chunk of skin off his face with trembling fingers.
And there he was.
Aiden stood at the far end of the hall, bathed in the carnage as though it were dust in the wind. Unmoved. Unbothered. As if this massacre were beneath notice.
"You know," he said, his voice heavy, steady, merciless, "I've tried to make it clear. I will not tolerate anyone coming after me. I've bled for this world. I've protected it. I've fought for it. And yet… I'm still hunted. Still hated. Why? Because I'm dangerous? Because I'm too strong for you to control? Or is it jealousy—that I succeed where you all fail?"
He walked forward, step after step, ignoring their raised stances. Captain America and Black Widow, closest to him, froze in place, bodies no longer their own. He passed them like statues.
Charles tried to speak, but his mouth vanished with a thought. Only silence.
Aiden's gaze locked on Logan."You first, Immortal. Why are you even here? You and I have fought side by side. What's your excuse?"
Logan met his eyes and let out a slow breath. "Honestly, kid… nothing against you. But I don't let my people die alone. Charles is my oldest friend. Two hundred years, I trust his call."
Aiden's eyes narrowed. "Then know this—your trust just got you killed. Your instinct wouldn't have."
He snapped his fingers. Logan dropped like a stone. No wounds. No blood. Just dead. Even his healing factor silenced. The Immortal was gone.
"LOGAN!" Jean's scream shook the hall. Flames lit in her eyes. Her aura burst outward. "YOU MONSTER!"
"Monster?" Aiden tilted his head. "You came here to kill me first."
Jean rose into the air, her body wrapped in an inferno of cosmic fire. Wings of flame spread wide, stretching into the Phoenix itself. The floor cracked beneath the weight of her power.
"I will END you!" she roared, her voice both hers and the Phoenix's, layered like creation and destruction in one. "I have trained for this moment. I won't let you abuse power any longer, Aiden!"
Her aura lashed forward, Phoenix wings beating, a force that could shatter cities rushing down on him.
And Aiden caught her throat with one hand. Effortless.
Her fire roared, the Phoenix screamed, the hallway warped around her fury. And yet his grip didn't even tremble.
"My abuse of power?" His voice cut through her flames like steel. "If I abused my power, every human on this planet would crawl in chains. But I didn't. I fought for them. I bled for them. And you—you call me tyrant because you can't accept it." His eyes burned into hers. "If you cannot see me as protector, then die seeing me as king."
Her neck snapped with a sharp crack. The Phoenix flame guttered out. Jean Grey fell lifeless to the ground.
Cyclops' visor gleamed wet with tears, but he couldn't move. None of them could. Only Jean had broken his hold, and even she had been nothing.
Aiden looked at him with pity. "I don't even need words for you." A snap—Cyclops dropped, motionless.
He turned to Beast, eyes softening. "You didn't want to be here. I can see it. But loyalty brought you. And loyalty just killed you. I liked you, teach. I did. But crossing this line leaves me no choice."
Freed to speak, Beast whispered, "Then… do it. I only hope you remain the hero I believed in."
"Thanks, teach." The life left him in an instant.
Only Charles remained. Aiden conjured a chair and sat across from him, calm amidst the blood.
"Storm stayed away, didn't she? Smart woman. I always loved her. Would've hurt me most to end her. Sigh. Why, Charles? Why make me do this?"
Charles' voice finally returned. He spat rage. "You monster! We raised you! And this is what you've become?"
"Raised me?" Aiden's laugh was bitter. "You hated me from the start. Hated that I had parents who loved me. That I wasn't an orphan desperate for your approval. That I wasn't another child you could mold into a soldier."
"I saw it the day you arrived!" Charles snarled. "I knew you'd be the end of us!"
"Because you tried to read my mind and failed? Is that why you hated me, Charles? Because you couldn't invade me? Couldn't violate my thoughts like you do everyone else?"
"You are a killer. Cold-blooded. You killed Erik. You brought death to our world. You are a threat beyond control!"
"No, Charles. I killed those who tried to kill me. That's all. But you—you were terrified because you couldn't control me like the rest."
Charles' face twisted. "This isn't about control—it's about restraint! You are one man! One mood swing and you could erase continents!"
Aiden sighed, leaning back. "You're boring me. Enough lies. Enough hypocrisy. Say your last words."
Charles raged. "DAMN YOU! I BUILT THE X-MEN! I BUILT A HOME FOR MUTANTS! YOU SHOULD ALL BOW TO ME BECAUSE I KNOW BETTER!"
Aiden snapped his fingers. Charles Xavier collapsed.
Silence filled the hall.
Aiden sat alone among the corpses of those who once fought beside him. His chest tightened. He remembered their laughter, their victories, their loyalty. They had saved his life once. And now… he had ended theirs.
Necessary. Cruel. Both truths sat heavy on him.
He turned and walked back to Captain America and Black Widow, snapping his fingers to release them from their frozen states. Instantly, both lunged. Natasha's pistols blazed, each shot finding its mark but leaving not so much as a mark on him. Steve's shield slammed into his chest, followed by a flurry of strikes, punches, and kicks. It was a perfect display of coordination… and utterly useless.
Aiden didn't even raise his hands.
"Still gonna keep going?" he asked calmly.
Breathing hard, Steve tightened his grip on his shield. "I can do this all day."
Aiden rolled his eyes. "Pathetic cliché." He snapped his fingers. Captain America collapsed instantly—lifeless before his body hit the floor.
Natasha froze, her eyes wide. Then, slowly, she lowered her gun, let it fall with a metallic clatter, and sank to her knees. Her hands rested on her thighs, her head tilted back in defiance but her eyes closed, ready for the end.
Aiden crouched down in front of her, his gaze sharp but searching. "Can I ask you about who sent you two?"
"You can ask," she whispered, "but I won't respond."
He studied her. "Was I really that bad? Bad enough to deserve being slaughtered in my hospital bed?"
He studied her. "Was I really that bad? Bad enough to deserve being slaughtered in my hospital bed?"
Her eyes opened, burning with a rare fire. "You're a god, Aiden. Of course you're bad. You keep telling yourself you've done nothing wrong—and maybe you haven't. Maybe all you've ever done is save people. But have you ever stopped to look at what you've become in their eyes? Religion shattered. Authority meaningless. Presidents, kings, parliaments… all useless. Every leader fears the day the righteous Dragon God decides they aren't worthy. Dictatorship doesn't need your crown—it's already here, with your name on it."
For the first time, Aiden faltered. Not with fear, not with doubt—just recognition. Natasha wasn't spouting Charles's manipulative rhetoric. This was a truth he hadn't wanted to hear.
"And instead of helping me fix this," he said quietly, "your solution was to kill me?"
Natasha gave a bitter laugh. "I'm an assassin, Aiden. I kill—that's what I do. If it were up to me, I'd hand you over to those symbiotes. You said Knull wants you? Then giving you up means Earth lives."
"Cute," Aiden replied with a cruel smirk. "But Knull already has a body—you all gave it to him. Sentry's. And Knull doesn't want me. He wants everything. He'll burn the Multiverse down to ash. That includes your Earth."
His tone hardened. "Tell me—was Fury behind this?"
"No," Natasha said firmly.
"Then who ordered it?"
"No one. Our own choice."
"Then Fury dies for it," Aiden said coldly.
"What?!" Natasha's voice cracked, but her defiance stayed. "He had nothing to do with this! You know how close he is to Carol—he would never sanction this!"
"I don't care. He dies… because of you two."
"I'm telling you," she snapped, her voice desperate now, "it wasn't Fury! It was Valentina. President Valentina."
The name hung heavy in the blood-soaked air.
Aiden rose, his expression carved from stone. "Go."
Natasha blinked.
"You live," he said, turning away. "Go tell Fury what happened here. And tell him to expect the President's head on his desk. First, I'll deal with Knull's parasites. Then…" His eyes burned with fire as his voice dropped to a growl. "…then Valentina."
