The silver crest of Steel Corporation caught the morning light as Ethan Brooks stood patiently outside Director James Walker's office.
Hospital staff passing through the corridor couldn't help but steal curious glances.
Why would the personal assistant to Aaron Steel be waiting outside the director's office?
Inside, James looked at Celina.
"It seems Mr. Brooks is here for you."
Celina shook her head immediately.
"For... for me?"
"That can't be right."
"I've never spoken to him."
James smiled reassuringly.
"There's only one way to find out."
He pressed the intercom.
"Please send Mr. Brooks in."
A moment later, the office door opened.
Ethan stepped inside with his usual calm professionalism.
"Director Walker."
They shook hands.
"Mr. Brooks."
James gestured toward the chair, but Ethan politely declined.
"Thank you, but I won't take much of your time."
His eyes shifted to Celina.
"Miss Celina Baker?"
Celina stood nervously.
"Y-Yes."
Ethan offered a respectful nod.
"I'm Ethan Brooks, executive assistant to Mr. Aaron Steel."
"I know."
She answered softly.
"I've seen you with Mr. Steel."
Without another word, Ethan presented the cream-colored envelope.
"This is for you."
Celina stared at it.
"For... me?"
"Yes."
"It's from Mr. Steel."
The room fell silent.
Even Director James looked surprised.
With trembling fingers, Celina accepted the envelope.
It felt strangely heavy.
Almost as though it carried a weight far greater than paper.
"You may open it," Ethan said.
She carefully broke the seal.
Inside was a thick ivory card embossed with elegant silver lettering.
She read the first line.
Her eyes widened.
Steel Foundation
Children's Hope Initiative
Miss Celina Baker,
In recognition of your exceptional compassion during the Children's Hope Charity Event, you are cordially invited to attend the Steel Foundation Appreciation Dinner this Friday evening.
The Foundation wishes to recognize individuals whose quiet service has brought hope to others.
Your presence would be greatly appreciated.
Celina blinked several times.
"I..."
She looked up.
"I think there must be a mistake."
"There isn't," Ethan replied calmly.
"The invitation was personally approved by Mr. Steel."
James leaned forward.
"Personally?"
"Yes."
Even Ethan found that unusual.
Normally, Aaron never involved himself in selecting guests for appreciation events.
Yet this time...
He had.
Celina quickly handed the invitation back.
"I don't think I should go."
Both men looked at her.
"I don't belong at events like that."
"I don't even own a proper dress."
"I'd only embarrass everyone."
James smiled kindly.
"Celina."
"This invitation wasn't sent to your clothes."
"It was sent to you."
She lowered her eyes.
"But everyone there will be important people."
Ethan finally spoke.
"Mr. Steel is aware of your position at the hospital."
Her head snapped up.
"He knows?"
"Yes."
"And he still wishes you to attend."
Those words made her even more uncomfortable.
Why?
She couldn't understand it.
She had done nothing extraordinary.
She had only comforted a frightened child.
James gently pushed the invitation back toward her.
"I think you should accept."
"It's an opportunity."
"And opportunities don't come often."
Celina stared at the elegant card.
Part of her wanted to refuse.
Another part remembered something her late mother often said.
"Sometimes God opens doors quietly. Don't be so afraid that you fail to walk through them."
She closed her eyes briefly.
Then nodded.
"I'll go."
A faint smile appeared on Ethan's face.
"I'll inform Mr. Steel."
He bowed politely before leaving the office.
The door clicked shut behind him.
Neither James nor Celina noticed...
Just outside the office...
Two nurses had witnessed everything.
One covered her mouth in shock.
"Did you hear that?"
"The CEO invited Celina?"
The other nodded excitedly.
"This hospital is going to explode with gossip."
Meanwhile...
On the top floor of Steel Corporation...
Aaron stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over Rosewood.
Ethan entered quietly.
"Sir."
Without turning around, Aaron asked,
"Did she accept?"
"After some hesitation..."
"Yes."
Aaron gave a small nod.
Nothing more.
Ethan hesitated.
"May I ask you something, sir?"
Aaron turned slightly.
"What is it?"
"You've attended dozens of charity events."
"You've met volunteers from all over the country."
"You've never personally invited anyone before."
A brief silence followed.
Even Aaron seemed to consider the question.
Finally, he answered in his usual calm voice.
"She reminded me..."
He paused.
"...that kindness doesn't need an audience."
For a long moment...
Neither man spoke.
Outside the window...
The city continued its busy rhythm.
Neither Aaron nor Celina realized...
That one simple invitation...
Was about to bring their two completely different worlds closer than ever before.
