The king was awoken by the noise echoing through the palace corridors.
"What were you all doing while his Majesty's chamber was being invaded?" The king's Head servant thundered as he surveyed the room, his expression that of disbelief. "He could have been gravely harmed!" His loyal servant's tone dripped with frustration as the guards, heads hung low, stood before him, unable to meet his gaze.
The commotion had roused the other royal family from slumber, they all gathered in the king chamber.
The king let out a dry rasping cough, clearing his throat before waving away his servant's complaint with a dismissive hand. His eyes swept over his family, their worried expressions looking back at him.
"Whoever this intruder was, he cannot have gone far," the king proclaimed with a steely resolve. "Our guard shot him, he must be suffering from severe injuries."
