A loud cry rippled through the walls of the castle, waking me from my slumber. Damian was awake as well, and it didn't seem like he had gotten any sleep at all.
"What was that? What's happening?" I asked frantically, scared and curious. In response, Damian pulled me into his arms and held me tight.
"It's fine, I'm sure everything's fine—" he hadn't finished when another scream tore through the air, swallowing up his last words. Someone was clearly screaming, it hadn't been a dream, and that voice seemed oddly familiar.
"Something's wrong somewhere, someone's in pain." I concluded before attempting to rush down from the bed. However, Damian stopped me, a look of caution evident on his face.
"What are you doing? I'm not letting you leave this room, not when we're unsure of the danger out there. You'll stay here, I'll go outside and check what's going on." Damian said before he pulled on his cloak and headed for the door, his eyes filled with determination and worry.
