"I have to thank you for what you did." Mrs. Cheng said to Xu Kai.
"For what?" Xu Kai asked.
"I never thought that this girl would ever get married, so you dragging her to the marriage bureau is the best thing you did." Mrs. Cheng said.
"Your mother was prepared to tie you up and get you married." Her father added with laughed.
"Mom, who were you going to marry me off to?" Cheng Xiao asked turning to face her mother.
"Anyone, but it seems your husband has beaten me to it." Mrs. Cheng said jokingly.
"Well, I am glad I beat you to it." Xu Kai said and turned to Cheng Xiao with a smile.
"Let me check if the dinner is ready." Mrs. Cheng said and stood up to go to the kitchen.
"Let me help you." Cheng Xiao said and followed her mother to the kitchen.
Once mother and daughter were in the kitchen Cheng Xiao's mother turned to Cheng Xiao.
"Are you sure with this marriage?" She asked softly.
"Yes mom, at first I tried everything to get a divorce from him, but he has always been gentle and patient with me. Even when we went to meet his grandfather, he was so gentle, I couldn't deny him anymore and agreed to give our marriage a chance." Cheng Xiao said assuring her mother.
"As long as you are happy, I don't want to see you go through what your sister went through." Mrs. Cheng said.
"I know mom, from what I heard Mrs. Xu is the one that spotted me on a date and called him saying if she lost her daughter in law, she would disown him." Cheng Xiao said with a small laugh.
"She said that?" Her mother asked.
"Yes!" Cheng Xiao said with a nod.
"Do they not despite your background, after all they are known as an aristocratic family." Mrs. Cheng said.
"Not at all." Cheng Xiao replied.
"Mom, don't worry about me if it was bad I would never have gave in." Cheng Xiao reassured her mother.
"That's good." Mrs. Cheng patted Cheng Xiao on the back.
"Go back to him." She said motioning for her to go to Xu Kai.
"I came to help you." Cheng Xiao said.
"I will be fine." Mrs. Cheng said.
Cheng Xiao being kicked out of the kitchen had no choice but to go back to the living room. Cheng Xiao sat next to her father and leaned on his shoulder, one habit that she always did when she came back home.
"You are a married woman; this habit needs to end." Mr. Cheng said.
"You will always be my father; I will do this even if I am fifty." Cheng Xiao said stubbornly.
"Will I be alive to see you in your fifties?" Her father asked.
"Dad you will live till you are hundred." Cheng Xiao said.
Mrs. Cheng called for them to come to the dining table when she finished bringing the dishes from the kitchen. They all sat down and ate, talked here and there. Cheng Xiao's parents watched as Xu Kai placed food in Cheng Xiao's bowl, the way he would pour for her water and smiled.
All their doubts and worries had been assured. They could see that Xu Kai was more than capable of taking care and protecting her.
