The headmaster was hit by sudden realization. Just why had he taken so long to think of that? How could he be that slow? He was among the few who knew the identity of Alaric. Though, they knew that that was going to bring trouble to the academy soon.
But that was exactly that! As young as he was, it was impossible for him to be allowed to roam free without any protection by his family! This could only mean that the person who was helping Alaric behind the scenes was his hidden protector!
This could also explain the ability to help him raise his body cultivation through such a huge leap. He now was confident in his assessment and he knew that he did not have to worry much about Alaric.
But he couldn't be any more wrong. The protector of Alaric? If Alaric heard the headmaster's thoughts, he would only shake his head in disappoinment. This was because Alaric knew there was no such protector!
The proof was since the protector would never allow him to face the Salvia Plane enemies. Also, the moment he almost died would never have occured in the first place because no protector would risk their young master dying.
It was true that Alaric had a protector but it was safe to say that the protector was either caught up in some trouble or he was just negligent of his duties. The latter being the least probable.
The headmaster did not have any more questions as most of his questions had been answered by himself and his deductions. He would now let the kid go without worries.
"I came to inform you that this is the last day you should be here," the headmaster spoke. Alaric gave a look that asked. "Just that?"
Just how dumb was Alaric to think that the headmaster would waste his time to come and personally inform him such a useless matter. Not even the princess got the privilage to have the headmaster inform them.
But Alaric could guess that somehow, the headmaster had gotten some answers to his question and that was why the the headmaster was no longer in need to pressure him for answers.
"Okay, I shall leave by the end of the day," Alaric said calmly.
The headmaster nodded and vanished. Alaric sighed as he turned and headed back to the dorms. He knew that his path was just getting more difficult. He had a clear goal of unlocking his Bloodline but he was not even sure whether unlocking his Soul had any effect on the chains sealing his Bloodline.
He had to get back to the dorm and thoroughly inspect himself. Without the system's help, he had to do it personally. The door to his room closed as he sat on his bed in meditation few seconds later.
...
Alaric realized just how dependent he was on the system. He realized that he knew almost nothing about how his body was. Ever since he got the system, he just made it scan his body and tell him what was happening in his body.
One can imagine the impact this had. It was obvious that he knew what happened in his body but he did not know how it looked like. He knew of the few skills he had but he did not even know how to activate them.
This was somehow ironic for he did not even know how the changes in his bodies looked like. Whenever he needed to use a skill, he would have to command the system to activate it. It was also one of the reason Alaric had not used his perception since he lost the system.
He felt like a hollow shell. He had the skills in his arsenal but he did not how to activate them. He had a feeling about how to go about it but he knew just how difficult it was going to be. There were many downsides of losing the system and this was one of them.
He had lost a lot. He recalled about the reward he was promised for awakening his Wood Element but he wondered what he had lost. If he had awakened the wood first, maybe he would have gotten his reward. But this was already spilt milk no need crying for it.
He sighed as he accepted his fate. He had to continue without the system. Still Alaric did not feel so helpless. Instead he felt relieved. The reason was simple. Something that had beem bothering him since he had acquired the system.
Since he learnt that he was a reincarnation of the Immortal King, he had a feeling that his life was no longer in his hands. This was further proven when he acquired the system. The system already had a well laid out path for him to get stronger and rise to his throne.
This gnawed on Alaric to the core. Just who was he? He was the same person but he did not like the fact that he was not the one in control. This was the feeling he hated most. Not being in control.
Having his actions predetermined before he was even born felt like he was following a script. Who would take it calmly realizing he was nothing but a puppet? This feeling gnawed on him.
It was true that it was his actions in his past life but Alaric hated it. He was sure that even in his past life, he knew that he would be against the idea of having his whole path already set for him to follow without him being in control. He knew that he had done this with an evil smile in his past life. It was somehow hypocritical for him to have such thoughts later after he got his own creation.
It was his pride as an Immortal King. How could he stand tall at the peak when all the strength he had was not his hardwork but part of a script that led him to the final destination of him being the most powerful?
He felt somehow empty after the loss of Sarah but he somehow felt relieved. The reason was simple, he had regained the control of his body. The system had made him lazy that he never even tried to see what happened in his body.
Whatever the system told him was the truth and he accepted it without question or confirmation. If one was to ask him the colour of his awakened new elements, he would not even have a clue of what it was. This just showed how negligent he was for the system.
This just showed just how not in control he was for his body. If that continued, he would end up falling into a path of no retreat where he would become nothing but a servant of the system and the system operating him.
It would become ironic when that happened whereby he was taken over by the system he created for himself. He knew that maybe he would have realized his mistake along the way but he could not tell how long. What if he realized when he was already at his peak and when he tried to take control back, he would end up harming himself?
This was where Alaric felt relieved. The fact that his life was going to be decided by the decison of the present not the past was enough to be happy about. The fact that he was back in control was enough to fill his gaze with determination.
He had to work hard such that he would prove that he didn't need the system at all. And that moment was now. It was not that he was rebuking the system though. He was glad for it for it was responsible for him increasing his strength and more importantly it was responsible for him being able to save Aurora.
Though he was relieved he had his control back, that did not mean that he was going to let it slide. All those who were responsible were going to face his wrath. Thinking of the system again, he could not help but feel its implications on his life.
The things he had been introduced to by the system were probably going to take him almost ten years to discover them all on his own and he would never even have the chance to learn about the soul. Maybe it would take him a hundred years or maybe a thousand to know about the soul.
One could imagine how long it would have taken him to transform instinct to perception. What about knowing things about Intents? Without the soul, he never would have. This just showed how important the system was for Alaric.
Even if it was gone, the foundation it had set for Alaric was above anything he could ever dream of. Things happened to be moving slow before but only he knew how far they had accelerated. The wheels of fate were already in motion and what was coming next was going to put him in a roller coaster.
Alaric sighed. Now that he had control, he had to start learning about his body. He set away all the distracting thoughts in his mind but he was distracted as he recalled the time he was trying to awaken his brain to 100% functionality.
Then it hit him like a wall was crumbling before him...
