Selene's sudden interference forced the Expendables to pull three of their members back to guard Lucian. This shift disrupted the originally smooth formation of the Expendables and Eggsy's team, leaving them vulnerable.
Within less than 30 seconds, several werewolves managed to breach their defenses, closing in on Lucian's position by just a few meters.
As Selene observed the situation, she quickly realized that Barney's team wasn't here to simply hold the line—they were here to wipe out as many werewolves as possible. Still, she believed the situation wasn't entirely beyond salvaging.
After analyzing the battlefield for a few seconds, Selene made her decision. Raising her M416 rifle, she opened fire on the densest cluster of werewolves.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
From her elevated position, she unloaded a full magazine of 40 silver bullets, hitting seven or eight werewolves. As the liquid silver coursed through their veins, their transformations were violently undone, leaving their bodies writhing in agony.
Without missing a beat, Selene ejected the spent magazine, loaded a fresh one, and resumed firing. In just five seconds, she had emptied her second magazine.
Thanks to her efforts, the three Expendables guarding Lucian were able to momentarily regroup and provide additional support to their teammates, targeting the werewolves that had breached the line.
However, despite their best efforts, the relentless wave of werewolves continued to press forward, forcing the formation to gradually fall back. Before long, Eggsy, the team's heavy firepower specialist, was overwhelmed and tackled to the ground by several werewolves.
Seeing this, Selene once again redirected her aim, firing another magazine toward Eggsy's position. The 40 silver bullets tore through the werewolves pinning him down, as well as several others attempting to assist.
Eggsy was quickly dragged back to safety by Yin Yang, who was part of the support group.
Then came a loud, commanding howl from one of the werewolves. Seven or eight of them immediately broke away from the main fight and charged toward Selene's position.
In the truck above ground, William listened to Sunday's report.
"Sir, we've detected a significant decrease in the number of reinforcements coming from the werewolves in East London. The combat robots have reached their designated positions. Shall we proceed with the operation to seal the trap?"
Watching the display in the truck, which showed the damage levels of the Expendables' and Kingsman agents' MK-3 suits, William noted that the most damaged suit—Eggsy's—was only at 31%. He smirked and said, "Not yet. Let's wait a bit longer."
Three more grueling minutes passed. By now, Selene had run out of ammunition but still refused to retreat. Instead, she took a desperate risk, charging toward the increasingly chaotic Expendables formation.
"Damn it! Is this chick insane?" Barney growled, clearly frustrated as he switched from sniping to using a rapid-fire handgun for close-range support.
For reasons even he couldn't explain, he redirected his aim to cover Selene, shooting down two werewolves pursuing her. Selene reached the ammunition drop zone, tossed aside her empty M416, and grabbed two modified USP pistols from the supply crates. She quickly loaded the magazines, switched to rapid-fire mode, and opened fire on the werewolves closing in on Barney.
In the truck, Sunday's voice sounded again. "Sir, the werewolves will breach the final defensive line in approximately 34 seconds. Close-quarters combat will become unavoidable. Shall we activate the trap?"
William glanced at the display, noting that the reinforcements from other werewolf groups were now sporadic at best. After hesitating for a few seconds, he heard Barney's urgent voice over the comms, calling for reinforcements and instructing his team to fall back and regroup.
Gritting his teeth, William finally gave the order. "Do it."
"Understood, sir. Deploying self-destruct drones now."
Moments later, over a hundred self-destruct drones entered the air raid shelter through various tunnels and ventilation shafts. They hovered silently in pre-assigned positions before detonating in unison.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The explosions weren't deafening, but their impact was clear. Fine silver powder filled the air, creating a shimmering, almost ethereal silver fog that blanketed the underground space.
"My God," Selene whispered, her voice trembling. Though she hadn't uttered the word in centuries, the sight of the silver cloud shook her to her core. The glinting silver powder seemed to pierce her very soul, filling her with an overwhelming sense of dread.
Her eyes stung painfully from the glittering mist. Panic set in as the silver fog drifted closer to her. Stumbling backward, she tripped over a supply crate, scattering ammunition across the floor.
In that moment, her survival instincts kicked in. Selene's mind raced faster than ever before, and within half a second, she devised a plan. She dumped the remaining ammunition out of the crate, removed her tactical vest, and curled her body into the now-empty crate. Just before the silver powder could reach her, she shut the lid tightly and called out to the nearest mech soldier.
"Help me!" she shouted, her voice muffled as the crate sealed shut.
Eggsy hesitated briefly but quickly stepped forward, securing the crate's latches and ensuring it was completely sealed.
In the truck above, William watched the scene unfold and chuckled. "This girl… she really is something else. For a vampire who's been fighting werewolves and humans for centuries, her survival instincts are top-notch. Even in this dire situation, she managed to come up with such a clever way to save herself."
He paused, then smirked. "Good thing she's not human. Vampires can enter a dormant state, eliminating their need for oxygen. Otherwise, she'd suffocate in that box in under a minute."
Turning to the comms, William addressed the Expendables and Kingsman teams. "Leave the crate where it is, Eggsy. Selene doesn't need oxygen to survive. Focus on clearing out the remaining werewolves in the air raid shelter. As for any who escape, don't worry—I've already deployed units to block every possible exit."
Hearing this, Eggsy gently set the crate down, then joined the others in regrouping and resupplying their weapons.
The teams turned their attention to the werewolves writhing in agony on the ground, their transformations undone by the inhalation of silver powder. Without hesitation, they began systematically finishing off every werewolf, alive or dead, with precise gunshots.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
When the gunfire finally ceased, the teams regrouped around Barney. After confirming that the silver powder had fully settled on the ground, Barney approached Lucian, who was chained to the wall and barely clinging to life. He removed the black bag covering Lucian's head, revealing the werewolf leader's bloodied and defeated face.
"Why… why?" Lucian rasped, his voice a mixture of rage and despair. He never imagined that humans would storm his lair so decisively, cutting down his guards like grass. Even in his transformed state, he couldn't withstand more than a few rounds before being electrocuted, subdued, and chained like a dog. Worse, he'd been used as bait to lure and slaughter hundreds of his comrades.
With a final surge of energy, Lucian glared at Barney and the others. "Who… are you? Why would you break the accord to come after me?"
Barney didn't respond. He simply yanked the brass necklace from Lucian's neck, then spoke into his comms. "Boss, we've got it. The mission here is complete. What's next?"
William's voice came through the comms. "Bring Selene to me. Then rearm, resupply, and follow Sunday's guidance to track down the remaining werewolves in London."
"What about him?" Eggsy asked, gesturing toward Lucian.
"Leave him," William replied curtly. "You have your orders. Now move."
