Chapter 8 - 8.To the Cities of Nocturna.

After Elias's recovery, Vex knew that if he was ever to properly wield the Chaos energy, rigorous training was the only path forward. And so, another year of relentless, grueling training began—days filled with exhausting drills, mastering his innate powers, and learning to control the volatile energy surging within him.

Time passed, each day sharpening Elias's abilities and fortifying his resolve. But Vex knew the boy could not remain hidden forever. The isolation had served its purpose—teaching discipline, focus, and patience—but the world beyond their secluded haven awaited, and it was not enough to be powerful in solitude.

Finally, Vex turned to him, a rare hint of a smile on his lips. "It's time," he said. "Time for you to see other living beings… to experience life beyond these woods. The world is bigger, stranger, and far more dangerous than you've imagined—and it's high time you stepped into it."

Elias felt a thrill of anticipation—and a twinge of fear—as he looked toward the horizon. The forest they had called home for so long seemed smaller now, a protective bubble that was about to burst

"How long has it been since I arrived on this world?" Elias muttered to himself, a spark of excitement lighting his eyes. Finally… finally I'll get to see other living beings.

He chuckled under his breath, a wry smile tugging at his lips. All I've done since I got here… he thought silently, was get my ass beaten black and blue by that crazy old man.

The memory made him wince—but beneath it all, a thrill bubbled up. For the first time in years, the world beyond the forest wasn't just a story. It was waiting for him.

Vex! Vex, Vex! Tell me—how long will it take to get there?" Elias called out, practically bouncing on the balls of his feet.

Vex shook his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips despite the exhaustion from training. "Patience, Elias. You've spent years preparing… and now you want to sprint straight into the world?"

Elias groaned, leaning on a tree for support. "I've been cooped up long enough! I need to see it—all of it!"

Vex's eyes glimmered with amusement and caution. "Very well… but remember this: the world outside is not as forgiving as these woods. What you see there will test everything you've learned… and then some."

Elias's grin widened, undeterred. "Then I'll just have to be ready. No more hiding—let's go already!

So how long does it take to get there Vex?

"On foot, it takes ten days," Vex explained, his voice calm but firm. "But with transportation… it takes 14 hours."

Elias's eyes widened. "So… we're taking transportation?"

Vex chuckled, the sound low and teasing. "Not quite. If you can make it on the sixth day, I'll give you a surprise."

Elias froze, dumbfounded. "So… you want me to run all the way to town?"

"Exactly," Vex said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

"But… I don't even know which way to go," Elias protested, panic creeping into his excitement.

"Don't worry," Vex replied, reaching into his bag and pulling out a small, round robot about the size of a soccer ball. "This little guy will guide you. Name him whatever you like."

Elias examined the robot. Its lights blinked cheerfully, and it floated a few inches off the ground, ready for action.

"What's your name?" Elias muttered, thinking for a moment. "How about… Orbit?"

The robot chirped in approval, its lights flashing green in delight.

"Orbit it is," Vex said, mounting his hover bike. His eyes softened just slightly. "Good luck, kid. Remember—make it in six days, and you'll get your surprise."

Elias grinned, a mix of excitement and nervous determination surging through him. The journey had begun.

Remember, kid—think of it as training. You can only use your Cosmic energy to boost yourself. Nothing else." Vex called back with a grin, then let out a laugh and zoomed off, leaving Elias standing there with Orbit.

"Darn that old man," Elias muttered, shaking his head, though a thrill of excitement ran through him. "Alright, Orbit… let's get moving."

Orbit whirred to life, projecting a holographic map into the air, highlighting the route to the town of Nocturna. The little robot hovered beside him, its blinking lights almost impatient.

Elias took a deep breath, tightened his gear, and set off at a brisk pace, determination coursing through his veins. Every step brought him closer to the world beyond the forest—and to the challenge Vex had laid before him.

The journey had begun, and there was no turning back

Day 1: The Journey Begins

Elias sprinted through the dense forest, the Cosmic energy coursing through his veins sharpening his senses and amplifying his strength. His legs pumped tirelessly, each step carrying him faster than he had ever run before.

Orbit floated beside him, its small lights blinking in rhythm with his heartbeat. The little robot let out cheerful beeps, occasionally projecting arrows and markers on the holographic map to keep them on course.

The forest was alive around him—the rustle of leaves, the distant calls of unseen creatures—but Elias barely noticed. His focus was on the path ahead, on meeting Vex's challenge, and on proving to himself that all the grueling training had been worth it.

For the first time in years, he felt the freedom of the world beyond the cabin, exhilarating and terrifying all at once.

As the sun climbed higher, the forest began to thin, revealing jagged rocks and winding streams. Elias felt the first real challenge of the journey: a wide, rushing river blocking the path. Its waters sparkled deceptively under the sunlight, but the current was strong enough to sweep an unprepared traveler away.

Orbit beeped urgently, hovering near his shoulder. "Warning: current unstable. Boost recommended."

Elias's eyes narrowed. Alright… let's see what this training is good for. He focused, summoning his Cosmic energy, and felt it surge through his legs. With a burst of power, he vaulted across the slippery rocks, landing on the far side with a controlled roll. A surge of adrenaline made his chest pound, but he grinned.

"Piece of cake," he muttered, though the next obstacle loomed ahead: a thicket of thorned brambles stretching across the path. Every step forward was met with resistance, snagging his clothes and scraping his arms. Elias cursed under his breath, realizing brute strength alone wouldn't get him through.

Orbit whirred, projecting a faint glowing outline over the safest route through the thorns. Following its guidance, Elias channeled his Cosmic energy again—this time using it to lightly lift himself, gliding just above the brambles, careful not to exhaust his reserves.

By evening, the forest opened into a small clearing, bathed in golden light. Elias sank to the ground, panting, but a triumphant smile spread across his face.

"Day one… survived." he whispered. Orbit floated nearby, its lights blinking approvingly. The journey had just begun, and already, Elias could feel himself growing stronger—and more alive—than ever before.

Day 2: The River Crossing

The second day of the journey brought Elias to a formidable obstacle: a wide, roaring river stretching as far as the eye could see. Its waters churned with surprising force, and jagged rocks jutted out along the banks.

Orbit beeped urgently, projecting a safer—but much longer—route around the river. "Warning: direct crossing risky. Alternative suggested."

Elias shook his head, determination blazing in his eyes. No way I'm taking the long way around. I've got six days to make it—let's do this.

He stepped into the icy water, letting the current lash against his legs. Summoning his Cosmic energy, he reinforced his stamina and strength, letting the surge flow through him. With a powerful kick and stroke, he used the current to propel himself forward, weaving between rocks and fighting against swirling eddies.

Water splashed into his face, and the river seemed intent on pushing him back—but Elias gritted his teeth, refusing to falter. Inch by inch, he advanced, muscles burning and lungs straining.

Finally, with a triumphant gasp, he clambered onto the opposite bank, drenched from head to toe but victorious. Orbit floated beside him, its lights flashing in what Elias swore was a celebratory pattern.

"That… was insane." he muttered, wringing water from his hair. "But we made it."

For the first time, Elias felt the thrill of testing his limits against the wilds of Nocturna, knowing that each obstacle would only make him stronger—and closer to the towns and mysteries that awaited him.

Day 3: The Mountain Pass

By the third day, Elias found himself at the base of a towering mountain range, jagged cliffs rising like the spines of some ancient beast. The path upward was treacherous—loose rocks, narrow ledges, and sudden drops—but his months of training had prepared him for this.

Summoning his Cosmic energy, he leapt from rock to rock with newfound agility, muscles straining yet precise. Orbit floated nearby, casting a soft glow that illuminated hidden footholds and marked the safest route.

Just as he reached a precarious ledge halfway up the cliff, a shadow blotted out the sun. Elias froze, heart pounding, as a screech pierced the air. Winged creatures—sleek, black-scaled beasts with glowing amber eyes—dove from the sky, talons extended, clearly intent on making a meal of him.

"Orbit!" Elias shouted. The robot responded with a flurry of beeps, projecting energy shields around him.

Elias clenched his fists, feeling the surge of Chaos energy within him. With a deep breath, he channeled both Cosmic and Chaos energy, launching himself into the air with a burst of speed, dodging the first dive of the predators. The wind whistled past him as he twisted midair, kicking one creature off balance.

The other winged beasts circled, their screeches echoing off the cliffs. Elias gritted his teeth and focused, sending blasts of controlled energy from his hands. The creatures screeched in surprise and anger, scattering briefly before regrouping.

Using Orbit's guidance, he leapt across a narrow chasm, landing on a stable ledge as one of the creatures narrowly missed him. He turned just in time to see a final beast dive toward him—and with a swift, energy-charged strike, he sent it tumbling into the shadows below.

Panting, Elias landed safely on the mountain trail. His clothes were torn, and sweat and grime covered his skin, but a fierce grin spread across his face. "That's… one way to spice up a climb," he muttered. Orbit hovered beside him, lights flashing in a pattern Elias had come to recognize as approval.

As he pressed onward, higher into the mountain pass, Elias felt stronger than ever. Each obstacle, each attack, was forging him into the kind of warrior Vex had trained him to be—ready for the challenges of Nocturna, and for the trials still to come.

Day 4: The Desert Plains

The fourth day of his journey brought Elias to the endless, scorching desert plains. The sun blazed overhead, turning the sand into a shimmering, golden sea that stretched as far as the eye could see. Each step sapped his strength, and even with his Cosmic energy, the relentless heat pressed down on him like a living weight.

Elias took careful sips from his canteen, rationing water like a treasure, while Orbit hovered beside him, scanning the terrain and projecting a glowing path that wound through the safest dunes. "Keep going, Elias. Energy expenditure at optimal level."

But the desert held more than just heat. From beneath the sand, giant scorpions emerged, their armored bodies glinting under the sun and their massive pincers snapping with deadly precision. Their stingers dripped with venom, and their eyes glowed with a predatory intelligence.

"Orbit, heads up!" Elias shouted, feeling the hairs on his neck rise. He drew upon his Cosmic energy, channeling it into bursts of speed as the first scorpion lunged. The sand erupted around him as he dodged and leapt, using his agility to stay just out of reach of the snapping pincers.

The scorching heat made each movement a battle. Sweat poured down his face, his vision blurred, and his muscles burned, but he couldn't falter. Another scorpion charged, and Elias channeled Chaos energy into a concentrated blast, sending the beast skidding across the sand with a deafening screech.

One by one, he fought them off, weaving through the desert with Orbit's guidance and the dual power of Cosmic and Chaos energy coursing through him. The sand bit at his skin, the sun threatened to drain him completely, but each scorpion he overcame strengthened his resolve.

By late afternoon, Elias collapsed briefly atop a dune, chest heaving, sand clinging to every inch of him. The desert sun reflected off the horizon, dazzling and punishing, yet he smiled through the pain. "Day four… survived." Orbit hovered near, lights blinking in affirmation.

The desert had tested him, pushed him to his limits—and Elias knew that Nocturna's wilds would only get more dangerous from here.

Day 5: The Final Stretch

By the fifth day, exhaustion had begun to weigh heavily on Elias. His muscles ached, and every step felt like a battle against gravity itself. Yet, the promise of Vex's surprise and the thought of finally reaching civilization pushed him forward.

The desert, forests, and mountains behind him were now distant memories—lessons carved into his body and spirit. His breathing came in ragged bursts, but he refused to slow down. Orbit floated faithfully by his side, projecting a soft, guiding light to keep him on course.

As dusk fell, painting the sky in shades of amber and violet, Elias's heart leapt. On the horizon, the first glimmers of Nocturna's lights twinkled like distant stars, a city alive and humming with energy.

"Finally…" he whispered, a grin spreading across his sweat-streaked face. "We made it…"

The last few miles seemed to fly under his feet, every step fueled by a mixture of relief, excitement, and sheer determination. He could feel the city calling to him, a world beyond the forest and mountains, alive with possibilities—and dangers.

Elias glanced at Orbit, who beeped in encouragement, and felt a surge of pride. He had endured, survived, and pushed himself beyond his limits.

Tomorrow, he would step into Nocturna—and everything would change.

Day 6: Arrival

Elias reached the outskirts of Nocturna just as the first rays of dawn painted the city in gold and violet. His legs trembled, and he collapsed onto the ground, every muscle screaming, but a rush of exhilaration coursed through him. Orbit chirped joyfully, hovering beside him, lights blinking in celebration—they had made it.

Moments later, the roar of a hover bike cut through the morning air. Vex pulled up beside him, a broad, approving smile on his face. "Well done, kid. I knew you could do it."

Elias struggled to his feet, chest heaving, a mixture of fatigue and pride in his eyes. "So… what's the surprise?"

Vex dismounted, walking over with a small, ornate box in his hands. "Open it."

Elias's fingers trembled slightly as he lifted the lid. Inside lay a sleek wristband, its surface etched with intricate, glowing designs that seemed to shift subtly under the light.

"What… is it?" he asked, awe and curiosity mingling in his voice.

Vex's eyes glimmered with a rare mix of pride and mystery. "This, Elias… is more than just a tool. It will help you harness your Cosmic and Chaos energy. Master it, and you'll be ready for the challenges Nocturna—and the world—will throw at you."

Elias slipped the wristband onto his arm. The moment it clicked into place, a faint hum of energy coursed through him, resonating with the powers already inside him. He could feel himself growing stronger, attuned in a way he hadn't experienced before.

"This… this is amazing, Vex." he whispered, his eyes shining.

Vex clapped him on the shoulder, a proud smile tugging at his lips. "You've earned it, kid. But remember… this is only the beginning. Nocturna has its wonders, its dangers… and its secrets. And now, you're part of it."

Elias looked out at the city, the morning light glinting off towers, spires, and streets bustling with life. For the first time since his arrival on this world, he felt truly ready—ready to face whatever came next.
