Chapter 144 - Chapter 143: Battle

"If I choose 'no', are you planning to take it by force?" Orochimaru's eyes flashed with a sharp glint, the dangerous amusement in his tone twisting into something cold and venomous. His serpentine pupils narrowed, and a faint hiss escaped his lips as if warning of the storm to come.

"Although fighting is not my intention, if things truly reach an irreconcilable point, then I will have no choice but to fight you, Orochimaru-sama." Asahi's tone was firm, unyielding. He took a deliberate step forward, the dusty ground beneath his sandals cracking slightly. His hands were relaxed at his sides, but the chakra around him told a different story — restrained, sharp, and ready to explode at any instant. "Besides," he added with a thin smile, "you just had an intense battle with Jiraiya, didn't you? I presume your current state isn't very good."

Orochimaru's grin widened, revealing teeth far too sharp for a human. "Asahi-kun," he hissed, "do you think you can defeat me now? Even in my current state?" His voice carried that unmistakable tone of disdain, the arrogance of one who saw others as insects crawling beneath him.

"Orochimaru-sama," Asahi replied calmly, bowing his head slightly as if showing respect — though the glint in his eyes betrayed that this was mockery in disguise. "You don't need to put on such an expression. We know each other too well. I believe you already have some idea of how strong I've become. With your personality, if you were confident you could defeat me right now, you wouldn't be wasting words with me; you would have already started fighting."

For a brief second, Orochimaru's golden eyes twitched — a subtle flicker of irritation.

"You're right," he admitted with a twisted smirk, "but if you were confident, you wouldn't be wasting words with me either. Ultimately, you still lack confidence." The mocking tone dripped with venom.

"I'm merely recalling our past acquaintance." Asahi said evenly, his tone hardening. "Trying to give you a way out, Orochimaru. Today, you either hand over the summoning scroll to me — or I'll kill you and be done with it."

"Hehehehe..." Orochimaru's laughter slithered through the forest like a living thing. "You know quite a bit about my research, don't you? Since you've so cooperatively delivered yourself to my doorstep today, I think I'll just take your body for myself."

His words echoed in the air, the sinister amusement giving way to palpable killing intent. The chakra around him flared violently — sharp, corrosive, heavy enough to make the nearby leaves tremble.

Then, almost immediately, another surge of murderous aura erupted from the forest — slightly weaker but no less suffocating. It spread out like a wave and pressed down upon Orochimaru.

Orochimaru's smirk froze. His eyes narrowed dangerously.

"It seems, Orochimaru-sama, you still don't understand me very well." Asahi said, lips curling in a cold smirk. "I never do anything without confidence. If I didn't have help, do you think I'd be so bold?"

Before Orochimaru could respond, his hands flashed through a series of rapid seals.

Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!

Several serpents shot from his sleeves, hissing as they lunged forward with fangs bared.

But Asahi was already moving. His body flickered to the side, swish! — dodging the attack by a hair's breadth. He stomped his foot hard, chakra bursting beneath him, and in an instant, his figure vanished. The next moment, he appeared beside Orochimaru, kunai gleaming coldly as he slashed at Orochimaru's left leg with an unorthodox upward arc.

Orochimaru's reflexes, honed from countless deadly encounters, kicked in. He twisted, almost bonelessly, leaping backward and countering midair with a kunai slash of his own — the two blades scraping together with a high-pitched clang!

"Fast." Orochimaru hissed, eyes glinting. "But still predictable!"

A sneer formed on Asahi's face. Then — pop! — his figure vanished entirely.

Orochimaru's pupils dilated. "A shadow clone?"

From behind him, a calm voice rang out: "Too slow, Orochimaru."

Uchiha Chizuru appeared from the shadows, his hands already forming seals at blinding speed.

Fire Style ∙ Great Fireball Jutsu!

*Whoosh!*

A sphere of blazing fire roared forth, casting a fierce orange glow that illuminated the darkening forest. The flames reflected in Orochimaru's eyes as he chuckled lowly. His body suddenly sank into the ground, melting into the earth like a snake burrowing through the soil.

A few meters away, his head rose up from the earth, neck elongating grotesquely like a serpent as his mouth opened wide — fangs bared — lunging toward Chizuru's exposed throat.

But the crimson gleam of the Sharingan met him mid-motion.

Genjutsu — Sharingan.

For a split second, Orochimaru's eyes widened. His vision twisted, the world distorting as the Sharingan illusion took hold.

At that moment, Asahi burst forth from the trees, fist glowing with concentrated chakra.

*Boom!*

His punch connected squarely with Orochimaru's chest, sending him flying backward and cracking the ground upon impact. A cloud of dust erupted as the forest floor split apart from the sheer force.

But Orochimaru's eerie laughter echoed again.

"Hehehe… Physical attacks like that don't work on me."

His body distorted, reshaping itself with a wet, sickening squelch! The damage was nothing to him — the Soft Physique Modification made his body far too elastic and resistant.

Summoning Jutsu!

Orochimaru slammed his hand into the ground, and a massive purple serpent burst forth, its scales glistening in the dim light. It hissed loudly and lunged straight toward Asahi.

But Asahi was already in the air. He spun gracefully, gathering chakra into his leg, and crash! — his kick smashed into the snake's snout, sending it reeling before it dissipated back into smoke.

Uchiha Chizuru had already closed in again, kunai flashing as he pressed the attack. His strikes were fast, precise — the movements of a true Uchiha.

But Orochimaru, even fatigued, was a monster. He parried each strike effortlessly, his fluid movements turning the combat into a grotesque dance. Chizuru's Sharingan traced his every motion, but his unpredictability kept him one step behind.

Then, Asahi reappeared beside him, forming a pincer formation.

Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!

Dozens of snakes burst forth from Orochimaru again. At the same moment, Asahi threw a specially marked kunai toward him.

*Zzzt!*

Before the serpents could hit him, Asahi vanished — Flying Thunder God Technique — and reappeared behind Orochimaru, driving his fist straight into Orochimaru's lower back.

But just as he made contact, Orochimaru's lips curled into a cruel grin.

"Did you really think it would be that easy?"

With terrifying speed, Orochimaru kicked Chizuru away and twisted his body — his neck elongating once again as a purple snake shot from his mouth, coiling tightly around Asahi's throat.

"Ugh!" Asahi's eyes widened as his strength began to drain away. The snake's coils constricted, suppressing his chakra flow entirely.

Then, a second serpent slithered from Orochimaru's mouth, baring the gleaming blade of the Kusanagi Sword — aiming straight for Asahi's forehead.

'Damn, that's disgusting!'

*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!*

Six kunai flew through the air. Each trailed a line of steel wire that wrapped tightly around Orochimaru and his snakes, binding them mid-motion.

Chizuru's voice rang out sharply:

Fire Style ∙ Great Fire Dragon Jutsu!

*Fwoooosh!*

A massive dragon of flame followed the path of the wires, roaring toward Orochimaru with incandescent fury. The heat distorted the air, setting the forest alight in a storm of sparks.

Under the tension of the steel wires, the snake around Asahi's neck loosened for a split second — just enough.

Asahi's hand snapped up, forming a single seal. With a calm breath, he pressed a glowing seal onto Orochimaru's back and vanished once again using Flying Thunder God Jutsu, escaping the inferno.

"I won." Asahi whispered, a faint smile curving his lips as the fire engulfed Orochimaru's silhouette.

*Boom!*

The explosion lit up the forest like a miniature sun. For a moment, silence reigned — smoke rising, embers flickering.

But then, a soft chuckle emerged from within the flames.

"Heh heh… The power of the Sharingan is truly enviable." Orochimaru's voice slithered out, low and mocking. "But those with only strength and no brains cannot survive in war."

The ground beneath them trembled. Then, with a deafening crack!, countless snakes burst upward from the earth, fangs gleaming blue in the firelight.

Ninja Art ∙ Many Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!

The twilight forest turned into a nightmare. Venom dripped from the snakes' fangs, each drop sizzling as it hit the ground, releasing faint tendrils of smoke. The air reeked of poison, danger, and the scent of imminent death.
