Ryan watched Cedric and Harwick Gelt wander into the lounge, casually chatting as they did so.
Adrian was heading to the kitchen, off doing another chore.
The entrance hall emptied.
Ryan stood there for a moment, watching Cedric ushering in Harwick and closing the door behind them.
He'll be in that lounge for a while. He thought. Time to find out what you are up to.
He reached the fourth step.
His door didn't even have a lock. So I'll only need to worry about a servant or Adrian finding me—
"YOU DARE!"
The booming voice came from the lounge like the sound of a cannon firing.
Ryan stopped on the fourth step.
There was a beat of silence. Ryan's mind was full of wonder of what could be behind Cedric's door. A dead body? Maybe a circle of blood and ritualistic symbols.
He would find out soon enough.
Then the lounge door burst open and a very angry Harwick Gelt came through it.
Ryan turned on the stairs and watched him cross the entrance hall.
