The troll was so fed up with the vampires' inquiries that he met Olga's dark side before the end of the journey, who promised to rip off his tongue and described in color what she would do with the trophy. Poor Tarn was so impressed by the insolence of the human female that he kept quiet for more than twenty-four hours. This coincided with the imitation of the death of the unwanted witnesses, and word of mouth attributed the troll's unusual behavior to his satiety.
Olga herself had more than once regretted that she had wanted to go on this trip at all and cursed those who had not stopped her. At first, the numerous small problems that had to be solved even amused the woman, as well as the image of the Triumvir's mistress and driving the entire population of the camp by the nose.
But having gathered the caravan for the return journey, she found herself alone with several hundred convicts and it seemed each of them had been born on purpose to piss her off - Olga. In spite of the general sluggishness and miserable impression that the prisoners made by their appearance, individually they liked to show their nerve. And some of them even portrayed the proud animal hedgehog.
The one that doesn't fly unless you kick it. Kicking and slapping had become a regular thing for the vampiress these days. When the walls of Savoyardi finally appeared, she sighed in relief and promised herself to think twice about what she wanted to do next time.
The process of handing over the female prisoners dragged on for half a day. The Baron's half-brother was extremely meticulous and had worn out the nerves of the older vampire. Of the three convicts who supposedly died on the way, only one was ransomed by Knight Blood, the other two were to be placed in the city. This fact caused the scrupulous man to quietly panic.
Having never dealt with slaves or convicts, he simply did not know how the royal representative would react to the shortage. The vampires, who knew the answer to this question perfectly well, had no way of convincing him that everything was in perfect order and the dead were not runaways, just crossed out one figure in the papers and indicated another. When they finally managed to sort out all the affairs, it was already quite late to go on the road to the village and decided to stay under the walls of the city until morning.
And in the evening Baron Savoyardi came riding in. And began to insist that the knight Blood bought all the convicts, not just a part of them. He was even ready to sponsor this event for free. The vampiress only smiled gloatingly as she listened to the Baron and the sergeant of gendarmes arguing, wondering what the young ladies had gotten up to that in just a few hours they were willing to give them back and even pay extra for it.
In a verbal battle between a vampire and a human, the former won and the Baron was forced to leave, satisfied only with the promise that "his grace, Mr. Knight, would be informed of the generous offer of his grace, Mr. Baron.
When Olga finally saw the unfinished walls of the vampire dwelling, which a couple of weeks ago had given her only fits of rage, a stingy tear rolled down her cheek. The place had become home. The whole village was there to greet the caravan. That made the vampiress legitimately puzzled. Why such a crowd to meet ordinary convicts?
It was the middle of the day, and following the usual routine, most vampires should have been sleeping peacefully. Instead, they waited impatiently for the caravan, wrapping themselves in hooded cloaks and trying to stay in the shadows of buildings and trees.
