"Finally resolved."
Looking at Sinon, who had now blended well with Asuna, Lisbeth, and the others, Daniel Davis nodded lightly. Back then, the cute daughter of a former bank employee had given Sinon an abstract drawing of her, which ultimately helped Sinon overcome her inner demons. That little girl saved Sinon.
For Sinon, the greatest burden on her heart was having shot and killed a robber to save her mother. Although the authorities and the bank had officially closed the case by stating the criminal had been taken down by the police, the truth had still leaked due to the presence of witnesses at the scene.
It's ironic how sometimes acts of heroism are met with unfair treatment. The world seems overly harsh toward good people while being incredibly lenient toward wrongdoers, as if endorsing a "victim-blaming" mentality.
Daniel Davis despised such injustices. When they occurred in front of him, he made sure the culprits paid the price.
"The Ice Sniper has disappeared."
After getting acquainted with Asuna and the others, Sinon was promptly invited to join the world of Alfheim Online. This significantly strengthened their lineup. As an Ice Sniper, Sinon had exceptional long-range attack skills, making her indispensable for raids and boss battles, which Asuna's team was sure to dominate.
For Asuna and her friends, equipment and rewards were secondary compared to the joy of the game. Even Daniel joined them for a few dungeon runs.
Meanwhile, Chihiro and Yuri, with the help of Asuna and Yui, quickly adapted to life in society. However, they hadn't forgotten their original world. In Daniel's villa, he had designated a specific area for them, filled with photos and books he'd collected. Chihiro loved these materials, while Yuri remained loyally by her side.
"Seems like I've gotten lucky this time—this isn't an apocalyptic world."
After spending a few days traveling with Asuna, Daniel packed his gear and resumed his journey. This time, he found himself standing on a lake, with the reflection of the moon rippling across its surface. Retracting his Nano Ant-Man battle suit, he had just started using Observation Haki to scan the surroundings when he noticed a fire in the distance.
"What a beautiful view," Daniel muttered, glancing toward the distant fire. The moonlight reflected off the waves, creating a serene, shimmering beauty across the lake.
"Yun Tianhe! You pig! You ate all the food again—I haven't even had a bite!"
As Daniel approached the fire, a melodic yet indignant female voice echoed in the night.
"But Lingsha, you didn't eat, so I thought you weren't hungry... Are you still not full?" A naive, slightly confused male voice responded.
"Yun Tianhe!" The female voice suddenly rose in frustration.
"Yun Tianhe, Han Lingsha... Those names sound familiar," Daniel thought as he walked toward the firelight. Spotting a man and a woman sitting by the fire, he greeted them.
"Hello there. I hope I'm not intruding?"
The young man sitting on the left side of the fire had delicate features and continued eating a rice dumpling in his hand even as Daniel approached. Opposite him was a striking young woman dressed in red, glaring angrily at the young man.
"Hello," the woman in red quickly put away her anger upon seeing Daniel, flashing him a friendly smile.
"Are you camping out here as well?" she asked politely.
"Yes," Daniel nodded naturally before continuing, "I noticed the firelight and came to take a look. I overheard your conversation earlier, and it sounds like you haven't eaten yet. I happen to have some food with me—please wait a moment."
With that, Daniel turned to leave. Given that these were strangers, he couldn't risk revealing the existence of his spatial ring and used this as an excuse to step away.
"This is amazing! So much better than wild boar! There's so much delicious food down the mountain!" Yun Tianhe exclaimed, devouring the food Daniel brought without any hesitation. His eating habits reminded Daniel of Yuri.
"All you do is eat!" Watching Yun Tianhe devour the food, Han Lingsha gave Daniel an apologetic smile, clearly embarrassed by Yun Tianhe's lack of manners.
"It's fine—food is meant to be enjoyed. Don't worry, I have plenty," Daniel reassured her.
After sharing the food, they introduced themselves, and Daniel finally realized why their names had sounded familiar. Yun Tianhe and Han Lingsha were the protagonists of The Legend of Sword and Fairy 4.
From Han Lingsha's words, Daniel also learned they were by the shores of Chao Lake. Judging by their conversation, this was likely the point in the story where the two had just descended from the mountain and were on their way to find the Sword Immortal.
"The Qionghua Sect, the Shu Mountain Sect, the world of sword immortals..."
This was a world where gods, demons, immortals, spirits, and ghosts coexisted. In this world, sword immortals could soar through the skies on their blades. For Daniel, this was an opportunity to grow stronger. Even though he could already fly, it was nothing compared to the elegance of flying on a sword.
Sword immortals were extraordinary beings, though this was also a world steeped in tragedy.
"So that's the Wangshu Sword... What a pity," Daniel mused.
While Yun Tianhe ate, Daniel's eyes fell on the items beside him: an ordinary-looking longbow and a slender, crystalline blue sword. Though it appeared unassuming, Daniel recognized it immediately as the legendary Wangshu Sword, one of the Qionghua Sect's twin swords.
From its properties, the Wangshu Sword was likely a treasure-grade weapon.
The Wangshu Sword and the Yihe Sword were masterpieces forged over generations by the Qionghua Sect, using the rarest materials from heaven and earth. Their ultimate purpose was to aid the Qionghua Sect in ascending to immortality as a whole. While the plan was ambitious, it was also highly unrealistic.
In the Qionghua Sect, the Wangshu Sword would have been cherished as a sacred artifact. Yet in Yun Tianhe's hands, it had become a multipurpose tool used for chopping firewood, roasting food, and cutting vegetables. No wonder Murong Ziying nearly coughed up blood in anger later in the story.
Daniel didn't pity the sword itself but felt sympathy for Han Lingsha. The sword had originally become dormant following the death of Yun Tianhe's mother, its previous master. However, due to Lingsha's unique attributes, the Wangshu Sword was reawakened, unknowingly consuming her vitality in the process.
"There's no point telling them now—they wouldn't believe me anyway. Besides, with Lingsha's determination, even if she knew the consequences, she wouldn't give up for the sake of her clan."
Han Lingsha had been searching for the legendary Sword Immortal for years. Even at the cost of her life, she wouldn't abandon her goal so easily.
"There's killing intent," Yun Tianhe suddenly said, grabbing the bow and sword behind him as he stood protectively in front of Han Lingsha.
"What's wrong?" Lingsha immediately stood up.
"Impressive instincts," Daniel thought, recalling Yun Tianhe's natural talents. Not only was he immune to heat and cold, but he also possessed the ability to sense killing intent. Anyone planning to harm him would inevitably be detected—even gods weren't an exception.
Daniel rose as well, picking up a sword he had prepared earlier. Since he couldn't reveal his spatial ring here, he had to rely on conventional methods.
"Tianhe, it's a monster!" Han Lingsha shouted. Just as she spoke, six bipedal beasts with blue and white striped fur—Wind Fiends—emerged from the surrounding grass.
With a roar, the Wind Fiends kicked up a fierce gust of wind and split into pairs, charging at the three of them. This wasn't like the turn-based combat of The Legend of Sword and Fairy 4. These monsters were cunning and intelligent.
As soon as the Wind Fiends moved, Yun Tianhe notched the Wangshu Sword onto his bow and fired. Unlike the usual method of shooting arrows, Yun Tianhe shot the entire sword. True to its legendary nature, the Wangshu Sword pierced through the chest of one Wind Fiend, while Yun Tianhe used his bow to strike another beast, sending it flying.
"These monsters are fast—an ordinary person wouldn't stand a chance."
As Daniel observed the beasts, he unleashed a sweeping crescent-shaped sword slash, cutting two Wind Fiends in half. He then appeared beside Han Lingsha, using his sword to knock away the two monsters lunging at her.
Although Han Lingsha was young, her years spent wandering the martial world and tomb raiding had honed her combat skills. Normally, two Wind Fiends wouldn't have been a problem for her. However, the Wangshu Sword's reawakening had left her increasingly weak. If she had been trained in the Qionghua Sect's techniques for wielding the sword, her condition might have been better. Unfortunately, the sect's greed and short-sightedness had prevented her from receiving proper training.
"Lingsha, are you okay?" Yun Tianhe rushed over, concern etched on his face, after retrieving the Wangshu Sword and defeating another Wind Fiend.
"I'm fine. I just feel a bit weak—it might be an illness," Lingsha said hurriedly, trying to reassure him.
"Be careful—they're coming again! You protect Miss Han, and I'll handle the monsters."
The six Wind Fiends were only the beginning. More emerged
from the grass, numbering at least twenty to thirty. The wilderness of the immortal world was indeed perilous.
"This is strange. I've been here before, and there weren't this many monsters," Han Lingsha said, puzzled. Before meeting Yun Tianhe, she had passed through this area without encountering such danger.
"You two should leave—there's no way to win against so many of them," she urged Daniel and Yun Tianhe.
"You've shown me kindness; I won't abandon you in return. Let's fight them together!"
"You bumpkin, if you can't talk properly, then don't talk at all!"
Under the pressure of the situation, Han Lingsha finally addressed Yun Tianhe as a "bumpkin," something she had refrained from doing since Daniel's arrival.
"Don't worry—these are just monsters. It'll be fine," Daniel said, preparing to unleash his full power.
Just as he was about to act, the sky above them suddenly lit up. Dozens of rotating sword projections materialized in midair, descending in a precise and deadly rain upon the Wind Fiends. Each strike was clean, efficient, and otherworldly, eliminating all the monsters without leaving a single survivor.
As the monsters fell, a proud, cold-faced young man descended on a flying sword. It was none other than Murong Ziying.
Murong Ziying scanned the trio below before vanishing in a flash. His speed was astonishing—so fast that even Daniel's Observation Haki could barely track him before he disappeared.
"So this is a Sword Immortal," Daniel murmured. To kill so cleanly and swiftly while remaining untouched by the chaos of battle—that was the power of a Sword Immortal. Witnessing Murong Ziying's skill only deepened Daniel's desire to learn the methods of the Sword Immortals.
Although Daniel could have dealt with the Wind Fiends, he couldn't have done it with such ease and elegance. These creatures weren't ordinary beasts—they were demons. Murong Ziying's precision and control, ensuring no collateral damage, spoke volumes about his mastery.
"Practicing immortality truly surpasses martial arts in every way."
Of course, Daniel didn't let himself feel too discouraged. After all, Murong Ziying was one of the top talents of the Qionghua Sect. Not every disciple could match his level of skill.
"Uncle! Uncle!" As Daniel pondered, a young man and woman ran over. The woman ignored Daniel's group entirely, chasing after Murong Ziying, while the young man stopped to introduce himself to them.
"It really is Huai Shuo... What a tragic pair," Daniel thought, recalling Huai Shuo's ultimate fate.
"A Sword Immortal! A real Sword Immortal!" Han Lingsha exclaimed excitedly after Huai Shuo left. Having searched for Sword Immortals for years without success, she was overjoyed to have finally witnessed one.
"Their clothes—they look familiar," Lingsha suddenly said, remembering the emblem on Huai Shuo and his companion's attire. She had seen it before in the tomb of Yun Tianhe's parents.
"To Chenzhou!" With newfound determination, Lingsha urged the group to head toward Chenzhou. Having encountered a Sword Immortal and learned their destination, she wouldn't let this chance slip away. Naturally, Daniel decided to accompany them.
While there were many sects in this world, including the Shu Mountain Sect, the Qionghua Sect's sword techniques were undoubtedly among the best.
