There's an old saying about Devil Fruits: "There are no useless Devil Fruits, only useless users." But the truth is, a powerful Devil Fruit can make an enormous difference in battle. Of the three main categories of Devil Fruits, the Logia-type is universally acknowledged as the strongest. While the Paramecia-type boasts some bizarrely powerful abilities, such as the Tremor-Tremor Fruit and the Hobby-Hobby Fruit, and the Zoan-type has its mythical variants, none of these have ever shaken the dominance of Logia.
Of course, this refers to the fruit itself, not the user. The strongest individual isn't necessarily a Logia user, but Logia users are rarely weak. Take Wet-Haired Caribou, for example—a relatively unimpressive individual—yet his status as a Supernova is largely due to his possession of a Logia fruit. This demonstrates just how significant a Logia fruit can be.
Among the many Logia fruits, the Rumble-Rumble Fruit is undoubtedly one of the most powerful. Enel's defeat at the hands of Luffy wasn't due to the Rubber-Rubber Fruit alone—it was largely Enel's own arrogance and complacency that led to his loss. With the speed of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and the vast range of its sensory capabilities through Observation Haki (or "Mantra" in Skypiea), it's inconceivable that Enel could have lost if he had taken the fight seriously.
In terms of speed, the Rumble-Rumble Fruit is comparable only to the Glint-Glint Fruit wielded by Admiral Kizaru. Not even the mythical Speed-Speed Fruit of legend could rival these two when it comes to velocity. Kizaru's ability to swiftly intervene in disputes between the Emperors of the Sea is not arrogance—it's capability. To put it bluntly, the Glint-Glint Fruit makes Kizaru almost untouchable, similar to the Fourth Hokage's Flying Thunder God technique. Unless Kizaru willingly stays to fight, killing him is extraordinarily difficult.
Even someone as strong as Daniel Davis, with his current power, could only stop Kizaru by trapping him in the Mirror World. Otherwise, Kizaru could simply leave whenever he wanted. It's fortunate for the world that the Glint-Glint Fruit fell into the hands of a laid-back individual like Kizaru. If someone like Akainu had eaten it, the pirate world would look very different today.
Akainu is a relentless enforcer of justice and shows no mercy toward pirates. However, his Magma-Magma Fruit limits his mobility—he requires a battleship for transportation. Often, by the time Akainu arrives, pirates have already escaped due to his slower travel speed. In contrast, Kizaru's Glint-Glint Fruit allows him to fly effortlessly across the seas, and a single Eight Trigrams Jade could clear an entire battlefield.
Imagine Akainu with the Glint-Glint Fruit, capable of quickly appearing anywhere and launching devastating attacks. While it wouldn't significantly affect the Four Emperors, it would be a catastrophic crisis for all pirate crews below their level. A "Glint-Glint Akainu" could single-handedly wipe out half the pirate population.
"Damn it!" Ace roared in frustration as his attacks failed to hit Ada. Meanwhile, Ada had enough leisure to occasionally direct lightning strikes toward Diamond Jozu, alleviating Kurome's difficult situation.
Although Ada's lightning attacks couldn't penetrate Jozu's diamond defense, they disrupted his momentum, giving Kurome much-needed breathing room. Naturally, this infuriated Jozu, but his frustration was useless—there was little he could do against Ada. Jozu's defense was strong enough to withstand Mihawk's strikes, and his strength allowed him to hurl massive icebergs. However, his lack of flight left him at a disadvantage—a common shortcoming against Logia fruit users.
Unlike physical techniques like Moonwalk from the Navy's Six Powers, true flight through Logia abilities offers unparalleled mobility. This left Jozu unable to effectively counter Ada, who could freely maneuver in mid-air.
While Jozu seethed in annoyance, Ace was utterly furious. As the Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, being toyed with like this was a massive blow to his pride.
"Great Flame Commandment: Flame Emperor!" Ace bellowed, unleashing his ultimate move. A ring of intense flames formed around him, rapidly expanding into a blazing inferno that engulfed a hundred-meter radius. The sheer heat distorted the air, and the fiery spectacle was both awe-inspiring and destructive.
"What a waste of energy," Ada said, her voice calm and unimpressed. Her body transformed into lightning as she effortlessly escaped the fiery inferno. Floating high above the flames, she watched as Ace unleashed his power.
As the Second Division Commander, Ace was undoubtedly strong. While he might be slightly weaker than Marco or Vista, among the sixteen division commanders, he was one of the strongest. With the right conditions, Ace's Flame-Flame Fruit even allowed him to challenge Aokiji.
Unfortunately for Ace, he was up against Ada—a master of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit. Unlike traditional warriors or even combat-focused individuals like Esdeath or Enel, Ada was a former top-tier spy. Her fighting style was pragmatic and efficient, avoiding direct confrontations whenever possible. Even with her Admiral-level strength, Ada rarely relied on brute force, preferring to exploit her abilities' versatility.
When Ace unleashed his island-destroying Flame Emperor, Ada didn't bother countering it directly. Instead, she ascended even higher, completely avoiding the attack. The massive fireball eventually descended, spreading flames across the icy battlefield below. The ship and everyone on board, including Esdeath, Akame, and the others, found themselves in the fire's path.
But before the flames could reach them, a protective barrier of electricity formed around the ship, blocking the fire entirely. Ada had anticipated this and prepared accordingly, sparing Esdeath from having to intervene.
After consuming the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, Ada had studied electromagnetism, physics, and related sciences extensively, taking her fruit's development far beyond what Enel had achieved. The creation of electromagnetic barriers was just one of many abilities she had mastered.
"Kurome, fall back. He's not someone you can defeat," Ada called out.
Kurome, who had been struggling against Jozu's relentless assault, heeded Ada's advice and began retreating. Despite her skill, Jozu's diamond defense was nearly impenetrable. Even Akame would find it difficult to defeat him in a head-on battle. Diamond, combined with Armament Haki, provided an unparalleled defense that could likely withstand even Mihawk's legendary blade for several strikes.
Boom!
At that moment, a massive lightning bolt struck from above, landing squarely on Ace. Exhausted from his earlier attack, Ace had no time to react. The bolt sent him crashing from the sky, unconscious as he plummeted to the icy ground.
"Ace!" Both Jozu and Jinbe shouted in alarm. Jozu immediately abandoned his pursuit of Kurome, rushing toward Ace's fallen body. Jinbe, despite wanting to help, was locked in battle with Leone, who was in her full lioness form. Her ferocious attacks left Jinbe no room to escape.
Leone, though slightly weaker than Jinbe overall, had closed the gap thanks to her Beast-King Transformation and the resources provided by Daniel Davis. Still, her advantage lay in her relentless aggression, keeping Jinbe entirely on the defensive.
Meanwhile, Vista found himself completely outmatched by Akame's swordsmanship. Under the tutelage of Ryuma, Akame's skills had far exceeded Vista's expectations. Though Akame didn't consider herself a swordsman, her natural talent and discipline had made her an exceptional one.
"Don't feel disheartened. His defense is truly frustrating to deal with," Ada reassured Kurome as she returned to the ship. Without skipping a beat, Ada's body transformed into lightning, and she reappeared ten meters in front of Jozu, who was now shielding Ace's unconscious body.
Jozu, fearing Ada would attack Ace, carefully placed Ace behind him before charging at Ada with the full force of a raging bull. His charge caused the ice beneath him to tremble and crack.
"Just as Daniel described—Whitebeard's crew is too protected by him," Ada murmured. Jozu's attack, though powerful enough to give even Jack of the Beasts Pirates pause, was futile against a Logia user.
"Diamond, huh? Let's test its limits," Ada said with a smirk. Her body split into layers of electricity, forming an intricate web in Jozu's path.
Jozu's immense strength allowed him to shatter over twenty layers of the electric web, but the repeated shocks gradually slowed him down. Before he could reach Ada, she appeared above him, her right hand glowing with electrical energy.
"Lightning Prison Technique," she whispered.
The remaining electric web closed in on Jozu, trapping him in a cage of lightning. Bolts of electricity crackled and surged, forcing Jozu to continuously reinforce his diamond defense with Armament Haki. Despite his incredible durability, the relentless assault began to wear him down. Cracks started to form on his diamond-coated body, spreading ominously.
"Jozu!" A voice roared from above. A streak of blue flames descended rapidly, forcing Ada to abandon her Lightning Prison to avoid the incoming attack. The blue flames materialized into the form of Marco, the Phoenix.
"So, the Whitebeard Pirates have finally arrived," Ada muttered as she looked toward the approaching Moby
Dick. The massive ship with its iconic white whale figurehead was unmistakable.
"Jozu, Ace!" Marco's expression turned grim as he assessed the situation. Jozu was covered in cracks, his diamond body nearly shattered, while Ace lay unconscious behind him. Marco felt a wave of relief that Whitebeard had insisted on coming. Without him, the situation would have been far worse.
Whitebeard's ability to protect his "sons" was unmatched, and this moment proved it once again. Recognizing the danger, the battles across the ice came to a halt. Akame, Leone, Jinbe, and Vista all bore injuries, but Vista and Jinbe were in noticeably worse condition.
"Pops," Vista muttered, lowering his head in shame as he and the others returned to Whitebeard's side. Their failure to handle the intruders without Whitebeard's involvement left them deeply disappointed in themselves.
Whitebeard's gaze soon fell on Squard's lifeless body, which Jinbe had brought back. The sight of his twisted expression in death filled Whitebeard with fury.
One of his sons had died protecting him, a sacrifice Whitebeard could not accept. He knew his condition better than anyone, and Ace's rash decision to confront Daniel Davis' crew only deepened his anger.
"Those bastards killed Squard! Avenge him!" the pirates aboard the Moby Dick shouted, their voices filled with rage.
But with a single heavy thud of his bisento's hilt against the deck, Whitebeard silenced them all.
"You came to challenge me," Whitebeard's deep voice rumbled, his sharp eyes scanning the opposing ship. "I am here. Why are you hiding?"
Though there was a significant distance between the Moby Dick and the opposing vessel, Whitebeard's Observation Haki had already revealed the absence of Daniel Davis. Instead, his gaze fell upon the group of strikingly unique women. He didn't underestimate them—the battles he had witnessed made that clear—but he wanted answers.
"I'm afraid you've misunderstood something," Esdeath suddenly spoke up, stepping forward. "This matter has nothing to do with our captain. The one who wanted to test the strength of the world's strongest man... was me."
