On the other side, Yang Xiao and his companions had climbed the stairs to the 7th floor of the hotel. Pushing open the door to the emergency exit, they found themselves in a quiet, dark corridor.
The corridor had lights, but perhaps to conserve energy, not all were illuminated. Instead, they lit up intermittently, one on, one off, creating some relatively dark corners in the corridor.
The hotel was massive, with many rooms. The corridors were laid out in an L-shape, running north-south and east-west, each corridor containing dozens of rooms.
At the intersection of the two corridors was a relatively spacious foyer, and some floors had service desks in the foyer, where one person from the staff would have to man the desk.
The service desk's location was not fixed; for example, on Yang Xiao's floor, it was set at the corridor's end near the emergency exit, opposite a miscellaneous room.
