The guard said irritably, "The college entrance exam is not about superstition; how well one does depends on how they perform and is linked to their usual grades. Beating drums and gongs, even with blessings, won't have any real effect."
A student with top grades, able to tackle the toughest questions, doesn't need to burn incense and pray for blessings to achieve good results.
A student whose regular grades are so bad that even their grandma wouldn't recognize them, unable to even say "Hello", "What's your name", or "Where are you from" in English, nor handle simple math, wouldn't get into Tsinghua or Peking University even with daily prayers to Buddha and gods.
Everything has a start and an end. Without consistent effort and diligent study, unless you're a genius, dreaming of getting into Tsinghua or Peking University is just that—a dream.
"Village Chief, listen! He's cursing that Wenwu won't get into Tsinghua or Peking University!"
