Everything has two sides the Shadow Bug's weakness is the soul.
Lin Moyu had thought before, during his first brush with these bugs, about how to defeat them. There were many ways, but the simplest was the Flame of World Annihilation.
Their souls are weak; this fire can overcome them.
They can skip through spacetime, so brief soul attacks won't work, but sustained ones are different.
As the shadow bugs swarmed in, Lin Moyu made no move to dodge, letting them close in.
At the instant they launched their attack, the Flame of World Annihilation burst out, turning billions of miles of void into a sea of fire.
There were no screams countless Shadow Bugs perished in an instant, reduced to dust.
Lin Moyu smiled slightly; this was as he expected.
When attacking, Shadow Bugs must enter the present spacetime this was the perfect moment to kill them.
The window was brief, but enough.
Their souls were weak; on touching the Flame of World Annihilation, they were instantly burned to ash.
A single fire wiped out nearly half the Shadow Bugs; the remnants frantically scattered, fleeing like wisps in all directions.
They weaved through the inferno, seeming present but actually phased out elsewhere. Not even the Flame of World Annihilation could reach them.
Lin Moyu said, "How long do you think you can hide out in another spacetime?"
He willed the flames to expand rapidly ten billion miles, a hundred billion, a trillion.
Everywhere he looked, all was sea of fire.
The survivors, phasing through other times and spaces, at first were safe; soon, each had to return to the present.
The moment they did, they were all turned to ash by the flames.
"As expected," Lin Moyu watched as more and more of the bugs turned to dust.
Yes, the bugs can slip through spacetime, but with limits.
If spacetime is a thousand layers deep, every traverse still begins and ends in the present.
Spacetime is like a loop, again and again, always passing through the starting point.
And the start was now engulfed in the all burning flames; returning meant certain death.
Unless they could cross a trillion mile stretch in one jump, there was no escape.
None of them could they all turned to dust in moments.
The fire faded; drifting in the void were countless motes of black dust the remains of the bugs, now reflecting softly in the faint light.
Lin Moyu narrowed his eyes. "This dust is like that from Time Essence Stones."
Chaos Gem said, "They have the same origin as Time Essence Stones."
Lin Moyu swept up all the dust, gathering it in his palm to form a lump the size of his fist.
He couldn't sense any laws but could see the dust was full of impurities.
Chaos Gem said, "Lots of impurities in these corpses if you had more, and purified them, you could make a complete Time Essence Stone."
"But right now, you've been removed from the world's laws; even if you had one, it wouldn't do much good."
After all, Time Essence Stones rely on the world's laws to function which he no longer controlled.
So most things had lost their use to him now.
Looking at the Shadow Bug corpses, Lin Moyu mused, "True, I can't use Time Essence Stones now, but perhaps I can use the corpses in other ways."
Chaos Gem instantly grasped his meaning, "Planning to turn them into undying spirits?"
"Exactly! Isn't it said that even Sovereigns must avoid huge swarms of these bugs?"
"And if they were gathered into a king bug? Wouldn't that give them trouble?"
"And what if I controlled that king?"
Chaos Gem laughed. "A Shadow Bug King could reach peak Sovereign. It may not beat those guys, but it'd be very hard for them to kill and sure, it'd be a real headache."
"That's enough. I'll make a king out of these!"
He made up his mind, and a vision of a blazing fire filled his heart.
This time it wasn't the Flame of World Annihilation, but Immortal Flame the technique of undead spirit soldiers.
Immortal Flame enveloped the corpses; the fire shot into the sky as strange, powerful auras appeared.
The souls burned to ash were reconstituted in an instant, bodies reborn as well.
The spell was so effective, in three minutes all the bugs recently obliterated were completely revived.
They waited silently before Lin Moyu, not making a sound.
Countless eyes looked up at him in awe, as if in worship.
Bringing them back, Lin Moyu instantly knew how many there were: exactly one million, the typical grouping.
Shadow Bugs have no wisdom and can't communicate, but that didn't matter Lin Moyu read their souls directly for the answers he wanted.
A million bugs made up a group; a hundred such groups one hundred million could be fused into a Shadow Bug King.
But even the King wasn't the ultimate. With a hundred kings, you could fuse a Shadow Bug Queen.
The Queen was the true supreme of the bug swarm able to go head to head with Sovereigns, and even kill one.
This was enough to fight the 'Dao' itself, even if slightly weaker.
With this, Lin Moyu changed his plan. "Why not make a Queen?"
