Chapter 4314: At Least It Speaks
The Power of Death poured endlessly into Xiao Peng's body, flowing throughout his form, unraveling into countless fine threads that struck at the cursed light spots.
This time Lin Moyu channeled a staggering amount of death power. Though he handled it with utmost precision, its corrosive nature could not be removed. No matter how careful, some harm was inevitable.
In small amounts, that harm was nearly unnoticeable. But at this massive scale, Xiao Peng's flesh began to corrode.
The young Roc trembled violently, as if pierced by ten thousand thorns. Yet despite the agony, he held firm, refusing to let even a whimper escape.
He trusted Lin Moyu. That trust was strange perhaps born from the loneliness embedded in his kind. The Chaos Lone Roc was destined to solitude. Yet in this all consuming emptiness, he had found someone who stayed by him.
The wave of death power enveloped the light specks fully. Each speck pulsed faint light, struggling against the tide.
They were fragments of the Supreme's curse weak in intensity, but unyielding beyond imagination.
Death alone could not erase them. And yet surrounded by it, their spread slowed.
So long as they were wrapped in death essence, the curse's eruption was delayed. Xiao Peng's lifespan leapt from ten thousand to a million years.
Then… a second power followed.
The Power of Life.
Xiao Peng, who had been writhing in silent torment, suddenly slumped in bliss. The pain melted into ecstasy, so overwhelming he nearly howled in relief.
Life followed Death, wrapping it, balancing it.
They were twin forces born from the Immortality Dao both enemies and kin, forever opposing, forever interwoven.
With Life flowing constant, Death no longer threatened to burn out. They endured together, pressing endlessly against the curse.
A Supreme's curse could not be erased by a small Chaos cultivator such as Lin Moyu. But slowed? Suppressed? Yes.
He did not realize how monumental this feat was. That a Chaos Lesser Completion could use his Immortality Dao to contend against a Supreme's power unthinkable. If word spread, all of Chaos would fall silent in disbelief.
The curse spots in Xiao Peng's flesh were subdued. Now Lin Moyu sent Death into his soul.
This was worse.
The pain was a thousandfold greater. Soul corrosion was agony without end but so too was Life's balm a thousandfold sweeter.
Xiao Peng shivered, his body convulsing like a broken gong. His jaw clattered with a harsh metallic rhythm. The torment drove him near madness half death, half paradise.
But still he did not cry out. He trusted Lin Moyu, he must endure.
Lin Moyu's focus sharpened to a razor. He traced the deepest reaches of Xiao Peng's soul. Each speck he found he wrapped in Death, and then in Life, one by one, carefully, untiring.
Ten days passed. Finally, it was done.
Lin Moyu exhaled slowly, drained.
"There. You now have at least a million years."
A hundred thousand had become a million.
The young Roc's eyes glistened in joy.
"Then… may I shout?"
He was ecstatic, needing to release the breath in his chest, yet still asked, afraid of disturbing his father.
Lin Moyu laughed.
"Go on."
Xiao Peng opened his beak and roared.
The scream lanced through the soul like a blade, an attack innate to his kind. Any being below Chaos Realm would have their spirit shattered by it.
But Lin Moyu was untouched, wrapped unconsciously in his Roc's protective aura.
The Chaos Qi itself cracked, scattered into streams from the call. For several long minutes, the Roc vented until at last he fell silent, chest heaving.
Lin Moyu only nodded, understanding. The curse's weight, pressing down since birth, had finally eased.
He placed a Chaos Fruit by his beak. "Eat this."
Xiao Peng devoured it without hesitation. The fruit burst in his mouth, blazing warmth rushing through body and soul.
His aura soared. His chaotification rapidly accelerated, bloodline unlocking further.
Eyes wide, he chirped excitedly.
"Father! My bloodline it awakened more!"
Lin Moyu nodded.
"Good. Refine it well. With enough of these, you'll awaken completely. Then we'll crack the curse."
"Thank you, Father!" his voice rang with joy.
But then both stiffened.
A cry resounded in the distance. Chaos Qi boiled, rolling waves echoing. A great being was closing fast.
Lin Moyu narrowed his eyes. A blazing soul flame came into view, immense in size. Another Chaos creature. Strong, but not yet Chaos Lesser Completion.
"You summoned it with your roar," Lin Moyu murmured.
"I'll fight it!" Xiao Peng cried, wings unfurling, and dived ahead savagely.
Battle erupted instantly, thunderous.
Lin Moyu remained still. A Chaos beast fighting another natural order.
Roars, shrieks, crashes split the void.
Soon, Xiao Peng dragged back a half dead creature in his talons.
It was bizarre a great bird with two pairs of wings, head like a rooster, a short tail like a rabbit's fluff.
Thrown before Lin Moyu like trash, it lay wounded everywhere.
"Father," Xiao Peng asked proudly, "shall I kill it or eat it?"
Lin Moyu regarded the being. "Do you know what kind of Chaos creature it is?"
Xiao Peng shook his head.
"There are infinite kinds. Few form proper races. Most are mutations of countless generations. Its blood is impure which is why it's weak."
"Then… can it be eaten?"
"Of course. Most Chaos beasts are edible."
Lin Moyu's gaze shifted to the creature. "And you? Can you speak?"
The strange bird twitched, stunned, then croaked faintly:
"…I can."
Lin Moyu smiled faintly.
"At least you can talk. That means the blood isn't entirely useless."
