Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Magic Tag

"Get off of me or else." Alix said through gritted teeth. Despite the obvious threat Alisa didn't move an inch.

"Maybe yer not as threatenin' as ya thought." Mo stated with a cheeky grin. Alix shot a glare at him before prying Alisa off of her.

"Wait, just a bit more! I think I almost broke my personal record for hugging a stranger!" Alix pushed the girl a few steps back.

"There's been a misunderstanding. I am no Spirit Savant, though you assuming that I am leads me to believe that you are one." Alisa gave a thumbs up to Alix.

"You bet I am! A Spirit Savant with such talent at only the age of 16 is the type of thing only told in stories written for brats still in diapers!" Alisa stood with both hands on her hips proudly. Alix slightly nodded to the side.

"It is actually well documented that people within the elven species have an easier time connecting to spirits and you being half-elven makes at least a small portion of that talent go to you as well. So it is not as shocking as one would believe." Alisa looked at Alix in shock.

"I-Is that really true? Like actually?" Alix nodded.

"Of course. Did you not know that?" Alisa guffawed at Alix's question.

"Sure I did! I'm half-elven after all, what sort of person wouldn't even know a lick about their own lineage? An idiot that's who!" Alisa tried to return to her proud stance to hide her shock but the attempt was poor.

Alix didn't care, however, as that was not important at the current time. In fact, none of this was currently important. Alix suddenly realized that she had been doing a whole lot of nothing recently. For example, school today felt way longer than it probably should have especially considering she had been getting out of classes early.

It was almost as though the gods themselves were leading her down a roughly drawn path and making up things as they went.

...

Anyway, Alix turned away from Alisa and started to walk off. "Wait! Where are you going?" Alisa chased after her but Alix showed no sign of stopping.

"Hey wait! Get back here! Don't ignore me, I'm cute!" Alix looked over her shoulder but didn't stop moving.

"Not as cute as my peccary. Take care kid!" Alix then reached down and scooped Trouler and Mo up in her arms causing Trouler to make a surprised squeak. She then bent her knees slightly, focusing her Lis into them, and took off toward the school's exit.

Or she would have, if a cloaked figure with a push broom hadn't appeared in front of her and blocked her path. Alix had no intention of stopping here and kept running straight at the man and his menacing broom.

"So, you want to take me on in a test of strength? Let's do it then!" Nasak screamed as he waited to collided with Alix. Just as she was going to hit him Alix quickly leapt into the air, soaring over him.

"Why didn't I think that she'd jump?" Alix landed on the other side of Nasak and darted off into the distance.

"You are as agile as the dolphins that grace our waters." Alix looked around as those words rang in her head.

"Yet dolphins are still creatures of the sea, should they be brought to land even a turtle could catch them."

...

"What?" Suddenly Alix felt her legs get heavy. It felt like she was trying to trudge through snow or like she had some sort of weight pulling her down.

"Mysticism?" Alix realized what was causing this and turned to see the caster. It was Denver, if the simile wasn't enough to figure that one out.

"Now get caught young dolphin, your arrogant nature had you leap too high out of the sea and now the hunters have found you." Alix grimaced at the boy.

'Mo get me out of here."

"Got it!" Mo spun around in his fish bowl and summoned a pool of water beneath Alix's feet. Alix's feet may not be free at the moment but that didn't mean she was out for the count. She breathed in deeply and focused on her connection to Mo.

Once she felt the connection she also felt control relinquish onto her. Control of the Abyssal Sea that was at her feet.

"Abyssal Sea: Racing Rapids." The water at her feet began to churn at her command. Alix's felt the water at her feet lift her slightly yet it still felt as though she was solid in her stance.

Just as Alisa barely caught up to Alix, the pink haired girl suddenly shot forward at high speeds.

"OH COME ON!" Alix smirked.

"Seems we've gotten better at controlling the water, Mo." Mo scoffed.

"Please, I've always been able to control it! You were the one that couldn't even make a simple water ball at the start." Alix rolled her eyes.

"Whatever you-Oh!" Alix turned her head and witnessed something that she hadn't predicted. Alisa was flying at her.

And no, I don't mean that she was running so fast that it seemed as though she had wings. I mean she was actually hovering above the ground and flying at Alix at high speeds.

"Well this just got more interesting. Mo."

"What is it?"

"Let us use this chance to test just how good our control really is. Shall we?" Mo smiled big.

"Oh, you have no idea how much I wanted to do that." At that moment, Mo controlled the water a bit expanding the amount at their disposal. Out of the dark water rose two slithering tendrils that wrapped around Alix's legs locking her further into place while four more tendrils extend out like arms ready to lash out.

It almost looked like Alix was riding atop some sort of squid. Alix then commanded the water at her feet to speed up but they were no longer heading to the exit.

No, they needed to get rid of their pursuer first.

Alix leaned to the right slightly making the water turn and move in that same direction. Alisa followed behind.

"Get back here! You can't just run away from a conversation!" Alisa didn't know why Alix was running from her. Honestly, she didn't know why she was chasing her either.

She just felt like she shouldn't miss this opportunity to get to know this girl.

While Alisa was lost in thought one of the spirits floated in front of her to get her attention. She looked up at it confused. "What is it?" The spirit pointed in front frantically just in time for Alisa to see a water tentacle...thing flying at her.

"Woah!" She gracefully spun to one side avoiding the water. She could swear that she heard it snap like a whip when it missed. Alisa watched as the tendril pulled back to it's point of origin.

Alix.

"Did you just try to hit me!" Alix glanced over her shoulder.

"I did no such thing." Alisa shouted in disbelief.

"Then what was that!?" Alix gesture to Mo with her head.

"My fish likes to play games. I guess this is one of them to him." At that moment something clicked in Alisa's head. A game? This was a game.

A bright smile became plastered on the girl's face. "Then I guess that means we're allowed to fight back!" Alix frowned.

"We?"

"LEXI TURN!" Alix did as Mo advised just in time to avoid that damn push broom swinging at her.

"Don't tell me you thought about counting us out of this game of tag?" Nasak swung the broom again this time it was stopped by one of Mo's tendrils as Alix raced away from him.

"How did he get in front of me again? Is that some Martial technique?" Alix decided to think more about that later. She had already almost been caught once, so she should probably pay more attention to her surroundings.

"HEY!" Alix heard Alisa call out so looked over her shoulder. "TAKE THIS!" What Alix witnessed was Alisa flinging what seemed to be a garbage can at her using her magic.

"Mo."

"On it!" Mo easily caught the can with his tendrils when the can suddenly erupted into some sort of weird brown sludge. As soon as the sludge came in contact with the Abyssal Sea it began to consume the water and move up it like flame on a fuse.

"Shit!" Mo exclaimed. He shifted one of the other tendrils into a blade and severed the contaminated one. "What the hell was that?" Mo turned to Alix for an answer but only to be met with a blank stare.

"I have no idea." Mo sighed.

"Great. Then I'll just stay on the defensive." Mo turned back to the rear just in time to see Alisa launch a pair of those gray orbs. Mo was ready to block them but they flew right past the three of them. Right, Trouler was still here and he was enjoying his time.

The orbs that flew past Mo's guard hit the ground in front of them forming a large smoke cloud in their path. Alix flew right into the cloud as she had no time to avoid it.

"What's the plan this time, fools?" Alix asked aloud but to no one in particular. She did receive an answer to her rhetorical question though.

"You have been pulled into the smoke like leaves in the wind and like those leaves you will be unable to leave on your own fruition. Welcome to the Fog of Misdirection!" The voice transmission came to an end and the smoke around Alix seemed to have come alive.

"I'm really getting sick of all of these tricks." Alix said clearly irritated though she did have to admit that this entire situation was very interesting.

"No tricks!" Alix heard the familiar sound of Nasak's voice as the boy appeared from the smoke in mid air. "Just magic and skill!" Nasak was holding the broom behind his back ready to swing it down.

"Nasak is quite the talented swordsman making it so that any object within his hand is like his own greatsword." Alix watched the smoke coil around the broom until it was completely covered.

Then, the smoke moved away revealing no longer a broom stick but instead a a bronze greatsword. "Meet my blade, Razirk the Ocean Devestator!" Nasak swung his sword down to slash into Alix but Mo used the water tendrils to jump Alix to the side to dodge the blow.

The sword slammed the ground hard but instead of a loud crash a resonant ring sounded out. The sound rang in Alix's ears making her body tense up from the high pitch.

"Why is that so loud!?" Alix felt the noise drown out all other sounds. Even the sound of her own thoughts were being drowned out by that insistent ringing. Alix tried to ignore it but it was so-

At that moment three of the water tendrils combined and swatted away three more trashcans that came flying at Alix. They had caught her unawares because of that ringing that just wouldn't go away. The now thick, single tendril whipped around and slammed into Nasak who was attempting another ambush.

What is with that boy and his ambushes? And that Denver kid with his stupid similes and Mystiscism. What is up with these fools?! And this sound!

This insistent ringing!

Alix reached her hands out in front and began to focus Lis into it.

"This sound that drowns out all, the wind, the sound of birds singing and ones own thoughts. This sound will disrupt anything and everything that which intends to impede it! It is ever present and will ever ring within your soul!" Alix didn't notice but she had started tracing on the air like she would during Omnia Nexus.

But this was no Omnia Nexus. She was using both her hands to trace two separate formulas.

Mo continued to defend Alix from all the attacks flying at them. He was also fully in control of their movement now, seeing as Lexi was preoccupied with whatever spell she was casting.

He would dodge trashcans, strange alchemy bombs, and the sword of Nasak. All the while being lost in this stupid smoke. If they could just get rid of the smoke then they would have a better chance of escaping but it was like it went on forever.

"Gah! It's times like these that I wish that I was a master of wind instead of water!" Mo shouted launching Alix into the air with a geyser of Abyssal Sea before launching a follow up attack at Nasak knocking him into the smoke.

At that moment Alix seemed to have finished whatever it was that she was casting. The air was cracking from the unstable activation of Null mana and the Spell-Script was fully imprinted onto the air.

Alix stuck her fist within the script causing it to encircle her hand. Mo continued avoiding attacks but couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sight of this strange movement.

'What is she-" Alix with her face drenched in sweat and her teeth grinding opened her eyes. They were filled with fury as veins became visible on her face. She unclenched her hand and instead held it ready to snap.

"The noise so loud that it quiets even the earth itself. That is this. Omnia-" Alix pulled her hand close and spoke in what was essentially a whisper.

"Dissonance." She snapped her fingers sending out a shockwave of magical energy. When the energy came into contact with the smoke it began to instantly dissipate as though it was being erased.

Within an instant the smoke was gone leaving Nasak, Alisa and Denver all completely exposed. Denver stood with his eyes wide with fear and shock. Alisa turned to him baffled.

"Denver what happened to your spell? I thought you could hold it for at least an hour?" Denver slowly shook his head still shock.

"I have no idea." He whispered as he was at a complete loss.

"What do mean you don't know? Did it just end on it's own?" Alisa shouted questions at the boy. She didn't at all understand what was going on.

"It didn't end. It just vanished."

"What?" Alisa's mood instantly shifted from rage and confusion to fear and confusion. "That isn't possible magic doesn't just disappear it goes dormant."

"I don't know anything about magic but I do know at least one thing's vanished." Nasak gestured to the surrounding area with his once greatsword now broom.

Alisa followed the boy's hand and realized what was missing. "Oh no! She got away!" The girl fell to her knees in dismay. "And after all that work too."

"While I don't very much understand the circumstances, I can also agree that you three have made quite the effort to trash my school grounds." The three fools jumped from the voice sounding behind them.

They slowly turned to see none other than Edgar Noslen, the Marconix Headmaster, and the principles from each of the schools towering over them.

Alisa gulped nervously, "W-what mess?" Edgar bursted into laughter but there was no joy in his eyes. Only anger.

"Take a look around and see for yourselves!" The three students did as instructed and looked around. It didn't take longer than a single glance for them to see what the the man was talking about.

Overturned trashcans scattered everywhere with the trash no longer within them. Large craters in the ground and dirt flung onto walls and windows. The remnants of Alisa's many alchemy bombs.

Yeah, I guess they did make a big mess.

"The mess that you fools have made this time is quite impressive I have to admit. Which is why you three get to spend the entire night cleaning all of this up!"

"But we didn't-"

"GET STARTED NOW!!" And so the Fantastical Fools took all the blame for messing up the school while Alix's name never even entered the conversation.

Even though she did sort of start the whole thing.
