(Janelle POV)
The morning after Princess Sophia's arrest dawned gray and cold, but something felt different in the castle air. There was a tension that hadn't been there before, like the moment before lightning strikes, everything really looked awkward, something I can't really phantom.
I was scrubbing the floors of the main corridor when Lord Cassius appeared beside me, moving with that silent grace that always unsettled me.
"Walk with me," he said quietly, his silver eyes scanning the corridor to make sure we weren't overheard.
I looked down at my bucket and brush. "I have work to.."
"Leave it," he commanded, his voice carrying an authority that brooked no argument. "What I have to tell you is more important than clean floors."
Reluctantly, I set down my brush and followed him through a series of corridors I rarely entered, deeper into the castle's maze-like interior. He led me to a small chamber that looked like it had been abandoned for years.
