"Sarah, I want you to focus on making that orb of water bigger, and we'll go from there. Concentrate. That water is a part of you; think of it as another part of your body. Imagine it getting bigger, and it'll respond."
"Okay, Mr. Allen!"
He watched as the orb of water grew three times in size. He smiled. "Good. They're doing much better than I could have ever imagined."
…..
A couple of hours later, Allen could be seen eating dinner with his students at a dinner table. Rebecca glanced at Allen.
"I saw some of your training, Allen. It was impressive. Only a few hours of training, and they have a better grasp of their abilities. I think you're suited to being a teacher."
"You think so?" Allen was a bit surprised by the woman's words. Honestly, he was just playing everything by ear.
Rebecca smiled. "I do. It seems like you know what you're doing. Keep at it."
Allen smiled. He glanced at his students before looking back at Rebecca. "About training. In three days' time, I won't be able to make it."
The girls looked disappointed by this. This caused Rebecca to frown.
"Why?" Rebecca wondered.
"I have a date on that day."
Rebecca gave him an incredulous look. "You're canceling training for a fling?"
Allen frowned. "It's not like that. I really like this girl, and I already promised I'd go to the spring formal with her."
Rebecca was surprised. He was doing things normal teenagers would do. Wasn't he at least a few centuries old? She could find no lies in his words, though. She couldn't be too mad. It was just one day.
"I'll be just one phone call away. You have my number. Don't be afraid to call me should anything happen."
"You should take that day for yourself." Rebecca smiled. "You deserve it, seriously. Defending the city from Demons has to be exhausting."
"It can be." He admitted. "But I know it's the right thing to do. Can't just let innocent people die."
Rebecca smiled. "You're one of a kind, Allen."
Allen chuckled while the girls smiled at their instructor. They did not know him long, but he had a right to a personal life.
…..
Three days later
After school, most of the students got ready for the dance. Most of them had their clothes with them. Allen and Kimberly were no different.
Allen stood beside the entrance to the girls' bathroom. He wore black dress pants and matching dress shoes. He also wore a red inner dress shirt. Over that, he wore a black dress coat. He wore a black tie as well.
He uncrossed his arms as Kimberly walked out. She wore a light pink dress which hugged her curves nicely.
"Whoa." Allen said in amazement. "So pretty…"
Kimberly blushed. "Thank you, Allen, you look handsome."
Allen smiled before offering her his hand. "Ready?"
"Ready." She confirmed, accepting his hand. Allen found that her hand fit surprisingly well in his. Together, they walked to the cafeteria where the dance would be. They could already hear the music thumping from where they were.
Within ten minutes, they arrived at the cafeteria. Allen noticed that the cafeteria was filled with students already who were dancing to the beat.
The tables were moved to one side of the room
to make room for the students to dance. He noticed food and snacks on a table that was pressed against the wall.
"I like this song. Come on!"
Allen chuckled as Kimberly led him into the dance floor. The duo began to dance to the music. It was an upbeat tempo, and they did moves that matched the tempo of the song.
A couple of minutes later, the song ended and was replaced with a song that had a low tempo. Allen looked at his date and held a hand out to her.
"May I have this dance?"
Kimberly giggled before accepting his hand. Allen brought her close to him, and they began to sway side to side. Kimberly wrapped her arms around his neck, while he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Kimberly closed her eyes. This was so relaxing. She didn't know why, but she just felt so safe with him here.
They danced for a close to ten minutes. They stayed in their position just dancing to the slow tempo. After a couple of slow songs Allen pulled away
"Do you want to grab something to eat?"
Kimberly gave him a smile. "Definitely."
Allen led her to the table with food. He grabbed a plate and loading it with food before handing it to her.
Kimberly looked at him with surprise. "Thank you."
Allen just gave her a smile before filling a plate for himself.
'What a gentleman.' Kimberly thought.
Once they had their food they walked to an empty table and took a seat. Kimberly sat down next to him.
After taking a few bites from her plate Kimberly glanced at her date. "So…um, when you're not at school what do you do for fun? What's life like at home?"
Allen who was about to eat some Macaroni and cheese paused, putting the spoon on his plate and looked at Kimberly.
"We don't know much about each other, and since this is a date I thought we could get to
Know each other. But if you don't want to…"
Allen sighed. "Of course I want to. It's just….life at home is pretty lonely. I-uh. My family is…well dead."
Kimberly widened her eyes. "I'm so sorry! God, I'm so stupid…"
Allen shook his head. "No you're not. It's hard sometimes, it was just the hand I've been dealt in life. Things have gotten better since meeting you though. I have someone to talk and spend time with, so thank you Kimberly."
Kimberly wasn't sure how to respond to that. She could only hope that she'd be a good girlfriend to him. She didn't know how far his suffering went, but it seemed like he was hurting a great deal.
If only she knew.
"To answer your question though…things I like to do for fun, well that used to Include bowling…I'm pretty good at fighting, and spending time with you is pretty fun as well,"
Kimberly assumed that he must have went out to bowl with his family when they were still alive. He must have learnt how to fight from his family as well. Her face reddened at that last part though.
"What about you? Tell me about your life at home."
Kimberly smiled. "I have a mother is sweet as candy. I often help her with the housework and we often cook together. My father is tough around the edges, overprotecting and sometimes it can be a bit much. He's a good man though,"
Allen smiled in return. "Your family sounds lovely, Kimberly."
They ate their food while making small talk. After eating they talked for ten or fifteen minutes to allow the food to digest. When they were ready they headed back to the dance floor.
….
A couple of hours later found Allen and Kimberly walking hand in hand. He had offered to walk his date home. He more than anyone knew how dangerous of a city San Fransisco is.
"This was nice." Kimberly looked up at him.
"It was. This was the first time I've had fun in a while." Allen admitted. Kimberly smiled at him and gave his hand a gentle squeeze knowing he must be thinking about the past. "Thank you, Kimberly."
They walked in silence for the next fifteen minutes. Once they arrived in front of a house that was baby blue in color she let go of his hand and leaned upwards, pressing lips against his cheek.
Allen had a surprised look on his face as he stared at his date. Kimberly just gave him a smile.
"Today was fun. We definitely need to do this again." Kimberly was talking about another date.
"Definitely."
Kimberly pulled away from him and turned around. "Good night, Allen."
"Night, Kimberly."
…..
One month had passed since his date with Kimberly. They had become a proper couple since then, going on numerous dates. He didn't neglect his students though. The girls had learnt a lot under his tutelage. It was in his honest opinion that most Demons wouldn't be a match for them. Low level-mid tier demons would have trouble with them and together they could take on most high level demons out there.
Allen had grown close with his girlfriend. He loved her, she held a special place in his heart. He loved her and although he wasn't ashamed to admit it, he wanted it to be perfect the first time he told her he loved her.
He had his eyes downcast with his hands in his pockets while walking the streets of San Fransisco, the sun beaming down on him.
'Today's the anniversary. Of that day.' Allen thought while clenching his fists tightly. His hands were balled so tight that they had turned white.
Allen continued his walk, depressing thoughts swirling in his mind. He always got like this around this time of year. He couldn't help but grieve them, they were his family and he loved them very much.
To him his family was the most important thing in the world, one day they were suddenly killed one after the other. There was nothing he could do about it either. The enemy was just too powerful,
Allen continued to walk with no set destination in mind, actually he didn't know where he was going exactly. The young Demon was walking wherever his feet took him.
So lost in his own thoughts, he hadn't realized someone was near him until he felt someone tapping on his shoulder.
Blinking he turned his gaze to the beautiful sight that was his girlfriend. Brown orbs met green.
"Allen." Kimberly spoke placing a hand on the right side of his face. "Are you okay? You're looking pretty pale. You didn't answer me when I called out to you."
Allen didn't respond and this worried Kimberly. She noticed that he wasn't his usual self. What was going on?
"I'm going to be back. I'm with family." Kimberly pointed to a building. Allen could see a man and woman who resembled her.
'Family….'
Kimberly retracted her hand and walked back to her parents.
Allen frowned. Had he been so lost in thought that he didn't notice he had entered the shopping district?
Five minutes later he saw Kimberly walking over to him. Allen noticed the suspicious look the father gave him inside the store, an ordinary person would have missed it, but he wasn't normal.
Kimberly grabbed his hand. "Let's go for a walk."
"Alright." He spoke after several moments, confirming he had indeed heard her.
