Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: This Guy Never Dares to Duel

"Whoosh."

Hundreds of thousands of Beli were thrown at Lin Yan. Numerous challengers stepped forward, including vice-captains, elite cadres, and formidable crew members. In short, anyone with a sense of honor joined in, tossing cash at Lin Yan, with some even throwing 1,000,000 Beli just to cut in line.

Among the challengers, the person who furiously threw down a million Beli became the second Whitebeard Pirate to challenge Lin Yan.

"Hmph, it's just a useless patch. Watch me deal with you!" His angry voice echoed throughout the Moby Dick.

The battle between the two was about to begin. They started fighting at the slightest disagreement. To be fair, anyone who could come up with that kind of money for a challenge wasn't a nobody in the Whitebeard Pirates. But for Lin Yan, it was just another day.

"Go!" someone shouted. "You're the second person to challenge this jerk. Make sure you defeat him."

"I don't want to see him being arrogant anymore!" another exclaimed. "Damn it, since I joined the Whitebeard Pirates, I've never felt so humiliated. This bastard is even starting to ride over our heads!" The crew cheered excitedly.

It must be admitted that Lin Yan was able to take down the Vice-Captain of the Fifth Division of the Whitebeard Pirates, which was a bit unexpected. He had some strength, and they acknowledged Lin Yan's abilities. But that's beside the point. So what if he's strong? Do the Whitebeard Pirates lack strong people?

Now, the crew was hoping for Lin Yan to be beaten and to kneel down, begging for mercy. Unfortunately for them, this time, they would be disappointed again.

The two sides battled for over 1,300 rounds. The battle was intense. The sky darkened, the sun and moon were obscured, the waves surged, and the heavens shook. If it weren't for their simmering resentment, many would have fallen asleep. It was like a match with no kills for 33 minutes—back and forth, tit for tat, Shakespearean!

Unsurprisingly, the second challenger was exhausted by Lin Yan once more.

"You...this guy..." the second challenger panted, out of breath. He felt like his fists were hitting cotton, nowhere to exert force. In his heart, there were a million reasons to be unconvinced. Because he was agitated, his face turned red, veins bulging. But at this moment, he had no chance of winning. After the Vice-Captain of the Fifth Division, the second challenger was beaten down by Lin Yan.

"By chance, by chance, next!" Lin Yan called for the next opponent.

"I really didn't expect this rookie to take down two of our groups!" one of the crew members remarked.

"Today, our Whitebeard Pirates have lost face," another commented.

"No, this jerk is just being opportunistic, only stalling, never daring to fight head-on!" someone else exclaimed.

"Yeah, dodging all the time, what's the point?" another chimed in. "Fight him directly!"

"I don't care, I'll go next, I want to stomp him under my feet," someone declared.

"I'll go next."

"I will!"

"I've already paid, 800,000 Berries!" The crew was excited, each eager to fight.

Just like they said, this bastard only knew how to stall, not daring to fight, not daring to clash. It was making them frustrated. But because of this, more people joined in, all wanting to fight Lin Yan.

The third challenger came, and they fought for over 1,300 rounds. The fourth challenger came, and they fought for over 1,500 rounds. The fifth challenger came, and they fought for over 1,800 rounds.

Now, all the Whitebeard Pirates were focused, with only one thought in their minds: defeat this rookie! The more they fought, the more frustrated they became. The more frustrated, the more they wanted to fight. The more they got beaten, the more they wanted to redeem themselves! It just confirmed the saying: poor skills, big ego!

"Wait," Lin Yan suddenly raised his hand, signaling the sixth challenger to stop.

"What, are you scared?" the sixth challenger glared at Lin Yan and scolded him.

"No, no, no, give me ten minutes to rest!" Lin Yan asked for ten minutes. The long fight didn't really bother him, but if he didn't pretend to rest, he might give himself away!

From then on, after every fight, he'd ask for ten minutes of rest. Then the sixth, the seventh... the thirteenth, the fourteenth...

Seeing Lin Yan resting more and more, the Whitebeard Pirates' eyes began to shine!

"Look, he's resting longer and longer."

"He must be running out of stamina, we're about to see the light of hope."

"Now he knows the consequence of using big moves? Let's see how he handles it!"

"Hmph, shameless bastard, you have your day too?"

"I can't wait to leave my footprint on him."

"Come on, hurry up, beat him up!"

The crew rubbed their hands as Lin Yan showed more fatigue. They grew more excited—excited hearts, trembling hands. They didn't believe it: the Whitebeard Pirates, the strongest pirate crew in the New World, can't beat a rookie like Lin Yan? What do you think you are!

Because of their eagerness to regain their dignity, they even forgot that this was a relay match!

But during the long battle, Lin Yan took down over twenty top experts from the Whitebeard Pirates. When the crew's voices were hoarse, finally, someone realized:

"Wait, stop giving away kills, haven't you noticed? He's already defeated over twenty of our members!"
