Zairon looked at me with disbelief. "What? But-"
I interrupted him. "I lied, Zairon. I thought maybe you would feel some responsibility, but it seems you're not interested. So, there's no baby, and there never was."
His expression changed from confusion. "Why would you lie about something like that?"
I smirked, my voice tinged with bitterness. "Just returning the favor. You rejected the idea of being a father, so I rejected burdening you with it." I kept myself calm so he wouldn't know I was lying.
He took a step back. "No, let me check you. I'll know if you're pregnant or not. I'm a doctor, I can tell."
I instinctively moved away and felt anxious. "Don't bother checking me because I'm not pregnant, Zairon," I firmly stated. He stayed quiet, his eyes searching mine for the truth. I could see confusion, frustration, and maybe a hint of regret on his face. I looked away, focusing on the houses in the background to distract myself from his intense gaze.
