As they sipped their drinks, Brittany glanced at Alex, her expression shifting to one of curiosity mixed with faint irritation. She leaned slightly closer, lowering her voice to avoid catching the attention of the others in the inn.
"By the way," she began, her tone calm but pointed, "I got a letter from Amelia recently. She mentioned something about you supposedly being in Cymeria. Care to explain how that came about?"
Alex paused mid-sip, lowering his mug and blinking at her. "Wait, Amelia said I was in Cymeria? When?"
Brittany tilted her head, clearly not amused. "A days ago. She seemed certain you were there. But, as it turns out, you've been here in Fjorland the entire time."
Alex sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Ah, that. I sent a bird with a message to her before we left for Fjorland. I told her I wouldn't be back home for a while because of everything happening here. Maybe the bird didn't reach her in time—or maybe she just misunderstood."
