The spears fell like rain.
Dozens of ice lances tore through the darkened sky above Minami Kyoto. Their pale blue light turned the battlefield bright for one impossible moment, illuminating every broken wall, every fallen soldier, and every frightened face watching from behind the defenders.
Then they struck.
BADOOOOM!!
The field vanished beneath ice.
Explosions spread across the ground one after another. Spears pierced into the Kijin's shoulders, arms, chest, and legs. Others struck the road around it, creating jagged mountains of frozen stone that rose high enough to bury entire groups of soldiers.
The Kijin's roar shook Minami Kyoto.
Ice covered its body.
Frost spread across its horns.
Several of its arms disappeared beneath huge layers of magical ice, and for a moment, the creature could no longer move forward.
The defenders stared.
Then the soldiers began shouting.
"It is trapped!"
"Yukihime has stopped it!"
"Keep attacking!"
Captain Jiro raised his sword.
