Chapter 98 - Team O.P.F.C

A few minutes later.

Team RWBYO stood inside Ozpin's office, the soft hum of gears and the glow from the towering glass windows filling the silence. The headmaster's desk was neatly organized—too neat, Blake noted—which usually meant Ozpin was preparing to say something they wouldn't like.

He wasn't alone. Glynda Goodwitch stood at his side, clipboard in hand and an expression that could best be described as "I told you this was a terrible idea."

Oscar's brow furrowed slightly. "You… want me to leave my team?"

Weiss's eyes narrowed, hands on her hips. "Headmaster, if this is a joke, it's not funny."

Ozpin exhaled, setting down his mug of coffee before turning toward them. His calm demeanor did little to ease the tension. "Miss Schnee, I assure you, this is no jest."

Ruby looked ready to cry. Yang looked ready to punch something. Blake looked like she was already calculating all the ways this didn't make sense.

Ozpin continued, his tone heavy. "As you all know, your team's formation was… unconventional. Five members instead of four. Beacon's structure was designed for equal team sizes, but… after a wave of complaints from other academies and the council insisting on balance, we've been asked to make an adjustment."

He turned toward Oscar, his expression tinged with reluctant apology. "You, Mister Pine, are to be reassigned as the leader of a new team."

The air froze.

Then—

"This is bullshit!" Yang exploded.

The nearby lamp flickered violently as her aura surged.

"Miss Xiao Long!" Glynda snapped, slamming her riding crop against the floor.

Yang didn't back down. "No! You can't just—kick him out because of complaints! Oscar's part of our team! He's family!"

Ruby's voice trembled. "B-but… we worked so hard to be a team…" Her voice was small, fragile. "He's one of us."

Weiss crossed her arms, her tone cutting. "Headmaster, you approved our formation. Now you're bowing to bureaucratic nonsense?"

Ozpin sighed again. "Believe me, Miss Schnee, I understand your frustration. But Beacon must follow standardized structure. Exceptions are no longer permitted."

Blake's voice was quiet but sharp. "So because of paperwork, you're splitting apart a team that works? That's not order, that's punishment."

Ozpin looked between them—tired, thoughtful, and then… smiling faintly. "Sometimes, Miss Belladonna, fairness and order are not the same thing."

Oscar finally spoke, his voice calm but edged with disbelief. "So… I just start over again?"

Ozpin's gaze softened. "You'll retain your status, and your experience has not gone unnoticed. You'll serve as the leader of a new team—Team O.P.F.C...."

He paused, then adjusted his glasses. "Or as I decided to name it… Team OPAL."

Oscar blinked. "You already named it? I don't even know them!"

He crossed his arms. "And I'm not leaving my team."

Ozpin's eyes twinkled. "Who said you were leaving?"

That got everyone's attention. Even Glynda looked at him like "what are you doing now?"

Ozpin continued smoothly, clearly pleased with himself. "On paper, Mister Pine will be part of Team OPAL. However, he will also remain a member of Team RWBY. The two dorms will be joined—connected by a shared door, accessible from both sides. A… cooperative arrangement."

Yang blinked. "Wait… so he's leading another team and staying with us?"

Ozpin nodded, smiling like a man who'd just outplayed the gods of bureaucracy. "Exactly. The council gets their structure, and Beacon gets to keep its strongest team together. Everyone wins."

Glynda sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Creative. Reckless. Predictable."

Ruby's eyes brightened instantly. "So Oscar doesn't have to leave!?"

Ozpin shook his head. "No, Miss Rose. He'll simply have more responsibilities."

Weiss groaned softly. "So he gets to run two teams at once. That hardly seems fair."

Oscar scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah, I don't think I signed up for management…"

Ozpin smirked faintly. "Consider it leadership training."

He pressed a button on his desk, projecting three holographic faces above the surface. "You'll be leading three transfer students—each chosen for their exceptional potential."

Ruby's eyes widened. "Wait—is that… Penny!?"

Ozpin nodded. "Yes. Penny Polendina, from Atlas Academy. You've met her before."

Oscar tilted his head. "Three girls, huh? Cool, cool."

Inwardly—

"Not cool! I barely survive four, now three more!?"

Ding!

[Good luck, Host.]

"Not you too, System!"

Ozpin continued, gesturing to the next face.

The hologram shifted to reveal a dark-skinned girl with short teal hair cut into a neat A-line bob and bright blue eyes that carried both discipline and quiet confidence. A faint golden sun mark gleamed on her forehead. She wore a blue beret, a white blouse, and a pleated navy skirt—the image of Atlas Academy precision. [Insert image of Ciel]

Name: Ciel Soleil

Origin: Atlas Military Academy

Specialization: Tactical Analysis / Aura Synchronization

Weiss arched a brow. "Ah. Atlas's perfect soldier. Wonderful."

Next appeared Penny's smiling face, familiar and friendly. "Salutations!" her prerecorded greeting chirped, making Ruby beam.

Finally, the image shifted to a Faunus girl with white hair, olive-green eyes, and soft sheep ears twitching slightly from her curls. She wore a practical green-and-brown outfit with a small utility pouch and gloves—ready for work and adventure alike. [Insert Image of Fionna]

Name: Fiona Thyme

Origin: Mantle Resistance Support Division

Specialization: Aura Barrier Creation / Enhanced Durability

Yang leaned forward, smirking. "Sheep ears. That's adorable."

Blake smiled faintly. "A Faunus from Mantle, though? That's rare. She must be tough."

Ozpin clasped his hands together. "Team OPAL will be Beacon's bridge between Atlas and Vale—a cooperation effort."

Oscar just groaned softly. "So I'm basically the peace ambassador and babysitter."

Glynda adjusted her glasses. "Then I suggest you start acting the part, Mister Pine."

Ozpin's smile deepened. "Welcome to leadership, Oscar. Try not to lose either team."

The rest of Team RWBY laughed lightly, though Ruby was still clinging to his arm with a proud smile. "Leader of two teams… sounds pretty awesome, actually."

Oscar sighed, glancing up at the glowing clock above the window. "Yeah, awesome… until the paperwork hits."

Oscar sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, at least I'm just the leader of this one. That means Ruby's still got you guys covered."

Weiss blinked once. Then twice. Then slowly turned toward him, her eyes widening in dawning horror.

"Wait… you were our vice leader."

Ruby tilted her head. "I was what now?"

Weiss's expression went flat. "We're doomed."

Yang choked on a laugh, leaning against the wall. "Oh, c'mon, Ice Queen, have a little faith in your fearless leader!"

Weiss pointed dramatically at Ruby. "Fearless? She once tripped over her own cape during a mission briefing!"

Ruby puffed her cheeks. "That was one time!"

Blake looked up from her scroll, her tone teasingly dry. "Technically twice."

Ruby shot her a betrayed look. "Not helping!"

Oscar snorted, crossing his arms. "See, this is exactly why I'm not too worried. You guys are thriving in chaos."

Yang grinned. "You say that like it's a bad thing."

Weiss groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Oscar, I sincerely hope this new team of yours requires less… noise."

Oscar gave a weary chuckle. "With my luck? Probably worse."

At that exact moment, Ozpin's scroll beeped with a new message. He checked it, adjusted his glasses, and said calmly,

"Ah. It seems your new team has arrived."

Oscar blinked. "Wait, now?"

Ozpin smiled faintly. "No time like the present."

Ruby looked between them excitedly. "Oh, oh, can we meet them too!?"

Glynda sighed, muttering something about "chaos incarnate" under her breath. "If we must."

Moments later, the elevator door dinged—and stepping out first was none other than Penny Polendina, her bright green eyes gleaming with joy.

"Salutations, friends!" she said cheerfully, waving with both hands. "And new Team Leader Oscar! It's wonderful to see you again!"

Ruby squealed and ran up to her, hugging her tightly. "Penny! You're back!"

Next stepped Ciel Soleil, posture perfect, hands clasped behind her back, expression neutral yet alert. "Good afternoon, Headmaster Ozpin. I trust this new arrangement is temporary?"

"Temporary, perhaps," Ozpin replied with a patient smile.

Ciel's sharp blue eyes flicked toward Oscar. "So you're the leader. Atlas has high standards, Mister Pine. I expect you'll meet them."

Oscar blinked. "...You sound like Weiss, but with military training."

Weiss shot him a glare. "I beg your pardon?"

Finally, Fiona Thyme strolled in, her soft sheep ears twitching slightly as she looked around the office. "Whoa… fancy place. Didn't think Beacon'd be this shiny."

Yang smirked. "Cute accent."

Fiona's ears flicked as she grinned. "Thanks. Yours comes with a lotta noise."

Yang barked a laugh. "Oh, I like her."

Oscar could only stare at the three girls in front of him—an excitable android, a soldier who looked like she'd rather be leading him, and a Faunus who radiated laid-back chaos.

He sighed. "Yeah. Definitely worse."

The system's text box popped up again.

Ding!

[Quest Added: Lead Team OPAL without losing your sanity.]

[Reward: Unknown. Punishment: Early gray hair.]

Oscar muttered under his breath, "I already regret this."

Ruby patted his shoulder brightly. "You'll do great, Oscar! You've already survived us!"

Weiss folded her arms. "Barely."

Yang grinned. "Let's see if you can survive them next."

Oscar groaned softly. "I hate how that sounds like a challenge."

The elevator doors closed behind the two teams as they headed down to the main floor, their chatter echoing faintly.

Ozpin watched the numbers descend, then exhaled a tired sigh. "I hate the Council."

Glynda crossed her arms. "You made them, didn't you?"

Ozpin leaned back in his chair, his expression distant. "Correction — one of my past lives did. I just didn't expect them to become… corrupt."

The silence that followed felt heavier than the air itself.
