The store room of the orphanage was stacked and though it was a delightful thing to know that the children would have enough food for some months, it was unsettling to know some emitted black magic.
After Sarai opened the door to the store room, Sebastian walked in and Benjamin followed behind. Sebastian's eyes scanned the items and he caught sight of the black magic residue left behind on the most of the items.
Not all the food items had black magic residue on them as the orphanage still had some food items before the families of the black magic holders came to donate the produce. So those were clean.
Black magic always left residues on whatever it's holder touches or makes contact with or wherever the holder had lived.
This residue could only be seen by night creatures and very skilled light creatures. Sebastian's expression turned hard as he stared at the large amount of produce that had the black magic on them which appeared like a black mist hovering over the produce.
He turned to Sarai and forced out a pleasant expression though he was already angered. "You can't give the children this".
The woman's brows furrowed and she quickly asked "I do not mean any disrespect but why not milord?".
But instead of answering her question immediately, Sebastian asked her a question instead "Who exactly gave you these items?" He pointed at few that were now polluted.
At the time the king ordered that the produce be sent to the black magic holders families, they were devoid of any pollution. The produce were fresh from the farm and were large in number. Both perishable food items and nonperishable food items.
But what intrigued Sebastian was the fact they were contaminated even after the holders were kept at the inn at the cathedral.
Which meant only two things; the members of the families of the black magic holders had either gone back to the witches or had somehow obtained black magic from being in close contact with the holders which was very rare.
"Uhm...milord, it was brought to the orphanage by three different families but at different times" Sarai answered, feeling shaken.
"Have them discarded" Sebastian said with a straight face, taking Sarai and Benjamin by surprise but Benjamin didn't show it and only glanced at the king.
"Milord! This is a lot of food" Sarai said concerned but earned a glare from the king.
"Sarai, do you want to feed the children food that has black magic all over it? That was an order but I mean, if you choose to contaminate all the children in the orphanage then disobey me" Sebastian said turning his back to the woman who was perplexed by the statement the king made.
"Contaminate the children?" Sarai muttered as she stared at the food items.
"You'd get a certain amount of money and produce from the crown soon to replace these items". Sebastian said about to walk out.
"But milord, how would I know which of these items has b-black magic? We had some items left here before the new ones were brought" Sarai stuttered a bit as she stared at the king.
Sebastian glanced at all the items once more and right before Sarai's eyes, a black strange crest appeared on some of the food items.
"You're welcome" Sebastian said as he began to walk out of the store room.
Sarai's mouth hung open as she stared at the items in bewilderment. Her eyes darted between the items and the exiting figure of the king. She knew to be a king, one had to be strong. But she never expected the king to have such power.
Without lifting a finger, he had identified the items that was contaminated with black magic for her.
The king's show of power looked like what only witches could do but she knew perfectly well the king wasn't a wizard. He didn't cast any spell and he would have never become king if he was a wizard.
Wizards and witches weren't exactly in good books in Denver.
Sarai began to wonder what creature the king was exactly.
After noticing the king and his subordinate were walking further away from the store room, she quickly snapped out of her spiralling thoughts and followed them behind.
"Milord, you think the families went back to to witches?" Benjamin asked Sebastian.
"They obviously did. Giving them all that produce was a test, a test they so terribly failed. It's a shame all that produce will go to waste" Sebastian answered.
Benjamin knew the king was up to something the time he spent produce to the families but he never knew it was just a test.
"But milord, how are we sure all those items are truly contaminated? I mean, it could have black magic residue but is it really all bad now?" Benjamin asked further and Sarai who was now walking in front of them heard the question and was eager for an answer from the king though she didn't say a word.
"Those items don't harm the physical body" Sebastian explained and Sarai's brows furrowed in confusion and so did Benjamin's.
"Instead, they slowly make you exhibit attributes of dark witches and after a while you'll be corrupted". Sebastian said and Sarai shivered at the king's words.
She never knew that was how the powers of the dark witches worked. All the these while she thought they could only cast spells and that was it.
"Thank you for honoring us with your presence milord" Sarai said bowing down to the king when they reached the orphanage's exit.
